IMPORTANT: At 11:25 in the video, an alternate way to add a textured background behind your portrait is to open a texture as a new document. Drag it onto your portrait document and size it up. Make sure the texture background is placed just below the folders in the Layers panel.

Hi Marty! Always a pleasure watching your tutorials! I am 72 and still working! Creative people never retire!!! Basically I am a Fine Art Graduate in Graphic Design and this brilliant tutorial reminds me of my Art School Days, when we used to do different exercises by using old magazines. Poors, but industrious, are also lucky with Marty. You have shown how to make illustration easy in Ps. So that I can modify those lines more distinctly by brushes in masks? and give colors apparently like in Ai with shadows, mid tones and highlights. Love, love, love everything you do! Angel!

Hi Marty, and thank you for another great video. I followed the steps stated in the video above but for that last step when adding a background, I couldn't get the expected result. I think there is a missing step. :(

What software do I need to buy and install on my MacBook air computer to be able to do this sort of thing? I am afraid of "free downloads" because I don't want to get a virus scam"

Hello, when I put my background texture, it does not appear as yours. It looks pretty light, not darker. Please help.

Make sure the blend mode for the background layer is "Normal" and its opacity is 100%.

Frankly, I don't know. I do know that some features of PS are missing in the iPad.

Awesome video. Just like other participants, the last step of the background doesn't work. I go to "file"-" "place embeded"-and choose my texture like in previous steps. The texture doesn't show, but gives a kind of greyish background color. " Make sure the blend mode for the background layer is "Normal" and its opacity is 100%" makes no difference.

It's amazing but my graphic card doesn't support oil paint filter and I don't know what to do. can you give me now that away instead of oil painting filter please?

The Oil Paint filter isn't essential for this effect. Instead, go to Filter > Blur > Smart Blur. Play with the adjustments.
Why is PHOTOS capitalised, what else would it be, cabbages?
