I really felt encouraged by this latest video! It's refreshing to see someone being true to themselves, even having to acknowledge straying from yourself. What I've appreciated the most from your videos over the years is your story telling about your photography. I can't wait to see your next project!

You hit my YT inbox today with your video on focus stacking. I started watching it because I am interested in FS, but stayed til the end because of your poetry, music and soul nourishing scenery. A second video had me subscribing. You are unique and inspirational in ways beyond photography. I wish you success, however you personally measure it, and in spite of the skewed, YT yardstick.

You are right about the value of time spent in the outdoors. Of all the genres, I find woodland requires the biggest investment in time, perhaps that’s why it’s my favourite. Hunting for a subject forces you to completely immerse yourself in the surroundings

Same here, it's definitely my favourite for that reason too. It's also the most accessible and varied subject to shoot with changing seasons. Theres something else too and I can't quite describe it, but its definitely recharging for the soul

You hit the nail on the head Suzannah, when you were talking about watching all these videos of other people taking photographs in all these amazing places that you simply can't get to, and how that can feel overwhelming and confidence bashing! That's EXACTLY how I've been feeling! I simply can't get to these wonderful locations, at least not easily anyway! For me personally, it's never been an issue with time. If anything, I have too much time on my hands.. I always have had. I have one of those annoying things which society refers to as a 'disability', and because of that I've found it very difficult over the years to find employment, so I've always had bags of time! It's being able to fill that time that has always been an issue for me. But that in itself is why I love photography in the first place.. because it's so 'time' consuming!

Thanks Ash, I have finally had time to respond to your comments. Yes it can be overwhelming sometimes and too much time can also be a hindrance. I think that is the key, making masterpiece photography out of your local area 📸

Suzannah Mary, I want you to know I stumbled onto your channel about a year ago. What make me keep coming back is your warmth and integrity. I have loved your artistic writing as well as your song. Whatever you do, or wherever you go, I will follow. I will follow because you inspire me and there is always something to be learned. Keep up the good work.

What can I say an interesting video Susanna. I've followed your Chanel for sum time as you know yes there are many rabbit holes out there in the world of KZread, social media etc. however that is reality these days it's all about staying true to one's self and what brings us joy, happiness in our soul , photography and in your case your poetry that I personally love in your vlogs. You mention time. A thing I always tell my daughter is that your time is the most precious thing you can give anyone. Nobody knows how much time they have so follow your heart and it will all work out...

Interesting thoughts. It's all about finding your own way, the route YOU want to follow. Of course, some genres require certain gear, but a 10K medium format Fuji or Hasselblad does not make you a better photographer. Technically it might be an improvement, but it's your mind, eyes, creativity that create great pictures and makes you grow. So continue the journey you have outlined, and I will happily follow your ways. 😊

I've been passionate about landscape photography for much of my life. But distractions over the years drew me away from having a camera in my hand. I rediscovered my photography in my early 60s and it came back slowly. I dived into media to see what I should be doing and through time I became disheartened because I just saw that I couldn't achieve the results that I saw, mainly here on KZread. But I feel I had lost direction and instead of beating myself up I should have been asking "What kind of photographs do I like taking?", and "Who am I taking them for?". I'm now 70 and retired and my health isn't as good as I had wished for. So, I get out into the Peak District with my camera as often as I can and I photograph anything that attracts my attention and I do it for me. I'm not a brilliant photographer and many of my images don't turn out well, but there is that delight and personal satisfaction with the ones that do. Also, I've been out in the fresh air, tipping it down sometimes, but been out and photographed for me, and it's lovely. I've found that simplifying things and not going out with any preconceived ideas about what is a good photopgraph and what isn't has been a release and I'm becoming more observant, finding things I would have missed, slowing down and most of all, having lots of fun. I think I am slowly finding my mojo, Suzannah because I feel my photography has become more personal, and I think that's a good feeling. Good video Suzannah.

I agree, the "elite" photography channels that feature these amazing locations that only those with the proper means can get to are what is overwhelming and discouraging at the same time, those are channels we need to Not watch for our own creative health. Channels like yours that relates to the common enthusiast is what needs to be pushed in the algorithms. As I get older I notice that energy and time becomes two totally separate things. Younger me, the Energy was always there to tap into no matter How much time I have to shoot. These days as I enter my 60s and 45 years of shooting and processing my own photography, energy has to be kickstarted it seems, even if I have more time to use. But circling back, I think the internet has a HUGE effect on ones time, energy and creativity, either positively or negatively. It depends on your age and drive but it is too easy now to just chill on the chair and watch someone else on KZread instead of going outside with our cameras. I think your new idea is needed. I have always wanted to start a channel that concentrates on the photo creation part, but being I would be brand new and I feel there is no way for me to reach anyone with the present algorithm, however an already established channel like yours I feel will reach many who needs that information. KZread is not fair sometimes, right... Good luck, I'll be watching. :)

Beautifully carved comment with so much insight, thank you. I'm glad it is relatable and grounding. I find your perspective on energy very interesting which I think a lot of people would relate to. I'd say from what you have said there is definitely a space out there for the message you are sharing. It is never too late to start a channel, I've only really started posting consistently in the last 6 months. I have come to learnt that even if you just inspire a small group of people, you will have made a difference to someone's life and that's just as important. I think KZread will change, I think it will see the audience will be looking for more authenticity. Especially with AI imagery coming along, people want to see people, with story, life and energy

@@SuzannahMary Thank you :) You are right, as long as even a few will benefit from my experiences, that it all that really matters right?!! I think channels chasing clicks and views with gear talk are not what most artists want. Tools are tools but knowledge and inspiration in the craft is everything, just as it was when I was a kid with art magazines, a few rolls of film and a Nikon film camera. Somehow getting inspiration then was easier and more exciting. Hopefully KZread will change like you said and realize that artists and true creative needs are what people want. It's going to be interesting to see how AI plays in the mix or mess it up, hopefully not.

Your are so on point Suzannah! Having just watched Andy Mumfords latest video from Utah, which blew me away, I worry that my local woodland, not being quite so exotic, might not appeal in the same way. However, I know that I will have time at the weekend, I will make sure that I get myself out there, whether I create any images or not. I am sure I will. Looking forward to your upcoming projects.

The biggest issues I have are health and access. When I feel well I will do more and better photography. I still have problems with accessibility that limits what I can do. I really like your idea of changes to your channel. I prefer the videos where you aren't gear focused and obviously sponsored.
