Hello from the southwest desert in Tucson, Arizona, US. Now older than 70, I am tired of carrying heavy Canon dslrs for years and all the heavy glass as I traveled the world as a photographer. Trekked many miles in Asia. So downsizing to compact (bridge size still a bit big) is perfect for me. As a Canon fan, the G5X mk ll, looks interesting. But so does the Sony RX 100 vi, since I do not shoot videos. Your video answered questions that the others didnt. So thank you, there is now a new Canon 5GX mk ll in Tucson and I am pleased.

great video... i bought the sony rx100 va back in early 2019 but it died at the weekend... i had dropped it twice over the years ( but it seemed ok), then the back lcd screen fell off the other month... i used it mainly for photos, and as I've used canon DSLR's in the past (still got my trusty old 100D from 2014?) and they've never let me down, I've just ordered the canon g5x this morning... and looking forward to receiving it..

I street photography with the canon G5x II , If you don't care about the size. Panasonic LX100 II is the way to go

Thanks, this is just the video I was looking for. The biggest differences to me are the lens (better on the Canon) and autofocus (better on the Sony). I'm leaning towards the Sony because a lot of the photos I take are candids of kids, who are rarely still. But I really like the idea of the Canon's longer zoom and wider aperture over almost the whole range, which would give more creative possibilities with blurred backgrounds and longer reach. However, I think I would be frustrated with the autofocus trying to track kids, which would pretty much be a deal breaker. Any thoughts on that?

YES~ Totally correct. I think Sony is the perfect camera in your use case.

Canon for sure. Sony is for someone knows color grading.

Humm... Maybe. But i always shoot RAW so I don't need to care about the color. Because i will always color grade in post instead.

Planning to use one of these for my bike rides and take pictures of friends on bikes as well as landscape. Do you think the Canon would be able to keep up with the AF?

Good video. I have a question about the Canon G5X II: Why can I zoom (Manuel Mode) it shows 5, 10, 15 and 20 cm to infinity but not 24-120mm...? I would like to see the zoom in 24-120mm. Any way to "fix"this? Thanks

I see you're a left-eye dominant shooter! Do you have a problem with hitting the Canon touchscreen with your face and moving the autofocus point? I'm leaning towards the Sony b/c it does not have the touchscreen and I'm worried that I'd touch the screen with my cheek and mess up the autofocus (since I know I always have my face smashed against my a6000 LCD screen but it isn't a touchscreen so it doesn't mess stuff up). Great review. finally one about photography!!

Ha~ Thanks. Hitting the canon touch screen with my face is not a problem at all. I like to look upwards into the viewfinder. My head will tilt at a perfect angle. So my thumb and nose won't fight. But actually most of the time I used to LCD screen instead if I'm not under the sunlight.

@@caillouwang so now the question is can I live with Canon's auto focus? 🤔 I'm not a huge fan of Sony's colors in my a6000 and I find that skin tones aren't an easy fix in LR, even shooting in RAW (i don't have great color correction skills 🤣). PS you were one of the best reviews I saw on the RX100VA vs. G5Xii

@@E_House XD Thanks for the support. If you are not going to shoot something running. Then the auto focus on the canon will be enough. I mean the one point AF. Around 80% of my shoot works well. And about the color. The canon color I think it's the best color right now. Just looks perfect out of the camera already.

It is possible to charge the Canon battery in camera as long as your charger or power brick are "Power Delivery" capable. Have done so with my G5 X II.

Apple iPad Pro charger will work. It’s strong enough. But so heavy. Maybe the MacBooks too. Check it out. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Power Delivery.

On the G5x you are able to use the PD power banks to charge the camera 👍

After several months of use. The screen is a little loose and the lens protection blade is still shaking. The control ring on the canon start to fall apart and feel kind of loose. But no any stability issue while using the camera. I still love both of them.
