Photographing Kingfishers | Visiting a hide for Wildlife and Bird Photography
Join me as I continue my journey into wildlife photography and bird photography. I visited a commercial Kingfisher hide at Brine Pitt Wildlife in the West Midlands.
Kingfishers are a bird species that have long captured my imagination often seeing a bright blue flash along the river bank or diving from a perch on the opposite side of a fishing lake.
Visiting a commercial hide is a great opportunity to get up close and capture some wonderful images of the birds without disturbing them. Here they live wild on the stream near by and visit the artificial perch set up regularly throughout the day.

That shot of him emerging from the water - the wing spread and the water itself, beautiful. Worth the hours of waiting!

Thank you Michael it’s a fantastic place!
Lovely images. Ive been obsessed with kingfishers since i saw my first one aged 6. Now im 40 and lucky enough to have a camera to photograph them ive still never lost that sense if excitement at seeing one, let alone being in a position close enough to take photos. This video makes me want to visit a commercial hide again, they are great to get the exact portfolio standard images you want but i still really enjoy going to photograph my local birds that ive worked so hard to get close to. There's nothing like suddenly being in the presence of this bird when it perches just a few feet in front of you.

There definitely benefits to the hides, comfort and as you getting the bird right in front of you regularly has a huge benefits. But it’s so rewarding finding them on a river or lake and working to photograph them, I’m working on them at my local fishing lake at the moment, setting up a couple of perches for them and working out good photography positions. It’s all so rewarding and very addictive.. there’s something about that bright blue flash zipping by!

@@leerolfe good luck with it, hopefully you have enough success to document your journey, I'm always interested to see how other people go about it.
A nice video Lee, some great footage and the photos on the 2nd perch certainly made a better set of photos from a composition point of view, only my opinion of course! look forward to your next trip 👍📷🐦

Hey Terry, I agree and I much prefer the tighter crop throwing the background out of focus that little bit more too! Hope you’re well 👍
What a lovely video, I really enjoyed this one! Good luck on your journey .

A truly great video, Lee. Loved that hide and you pulled out some truly superb shots. Those flight shots at the end, are just wow!... Great to see that you have the most important 'piece of kit' than any self respecting wildlife photographer, carries in their camera bag - The flask of coffee!! Well done and I can't wait for your next vid. 👏👏👍
