Photek - Ni Ten Ichi Ryu (HQ Video)

Музыка

Artist: Photek
Album: Ni-Ten-Ichi-Ryu
Label: Science
Released: 1997
Track: 1 Ni Ten Ichi Ryu 4:36
(from MTV's AMP 1997)
Finally a decent quality video to make justice to what may be Photeks' best work.
Ni Ten Ichi Ryu is the name of a technique of using two swords (longsword and shortsword) simultaneously. It was invented by Japan's most famous samurai Miyamoto Musashi. His inspiration for Ni Ten Ichi Ryu came from watching a drummer at a festival, using two drum sticks. In a similar way, Photek's inspiration for the track title and theme came from the idea of two drum breaks representing the movement and interaction between swordsmen and their swords.....Need I say more?? Just enjoy the awesome music and video.

AMP was absolutely insane. They had music videos from so many great electronic musicians: Aphex Twin, Goldie, Orbital, The Orb, the list goes on and on. I didn't have cable during this period, so I only managed to catch it a few times, late at night at some friend's house, and it blew my mind every time.

Still one of the essential tracks of my youth that got me into music production. Although I'm slower in terms of genre, I think the influences of abstract sounds, atmosphere and constructed rhythms are there.

I found an MTV Amp cd in a ditch fishing with my dad in the 90s. I polished the scratches out (mostly) This song would skip bad and make it like a long loop. But thats that's good thing. I still have it.

The video demonstrates what the track title is. "Niten Ichi" is a fighting style using two swords, The translation of the track is "two bladed dragon" where "Niten Ichi" is referred to as the "two swords technique" that is the subtitle of this Photek single. This was never put on an LP; however, the flipside, "The Fifth Column", appears as the last track of "Modus Operandi". Anyone still remember MTV AMP?
