I know some people think it’s meaningless to speculate about which music you would want played at your funeral, because when you’re dead, you’re dead. But I honestly, really want this song to be played at my funeral. It makes me feel things I can’t explain, all of Phoebe’s music does. It’s absolutely beautiful. The part where she sings about death always gets me. “I hope you kiss my rotten head and pull the plug, now that I’ve burned every playlist. I’ve given all my love.” You’re absolutely amazing Phoebe.

I'm currently enrolled in a theology class at my university called Death and Dying and one of my assignments this week was to plan my funeral/memorial. I had to choose which one I preferred, whether I want a visitation, what I want done with my body, choose what hymns and/or music I want to be played, choose any scriptures I'd like to have read, and also state my reasoning for the hymns music and scriptures I selected. I also had to complete an assignment detailing my wishes were I to become mentally/physically incapable of caring for myself and if I were to become terminally ill. I had to choose who I'd give my power of attorney to, whether I wanted to remain in my home with full time caregivers, with a family member and supplemental caregivers, or in a nursing home. I had to decide whether or not I wanted hospice services, if I would elect to die with dignity via physician assisted suicide if I had 6 months or less to live, decide whether or not I wanted various treatments to keep me alive longer, and also I had to detail any other final wishes I may have. The final assignment for this week is to compose my own obituary which I am in the process of writing. It's quite an interesting class. I think a lot of people would be disturbed by the coursework but I am enjoying the class.

Since she mentions Dahmer and says the part of the rotten head, I always assumed she was talking about Jeffrey Dahmer and his collection of human remains. He wanted to create compliant lovers by drugging or drilling holes into the skulls of his victims and pouring hot water or acid inside; he also cannibalised them because he didn't wanted them to ever leave him. Dunno, I think it's a possible interpretation.

My dad was an alcoholic growing up, so I convinced myself the taste of beer going down his throat was better than knowing my favorite color or how I take my eggs. His promise to make an effort was always said behind his drunk eyes. My ex cheated on me after 3 years. Now I’m with a wonderful fucking human. He is so amazing and pure and kind and thoughtful. fucking human
What a lyricist. Absolutely stunning work.
Chorus lead-in has the same vocal harmony as Sufjan's John Wayne Gacy Jr. Well played.

This made me cry. Completely wrecked me. I adore it.
She is a rare amazing story teller and touches an emotional cord with every word.A truly beautiful talent.
This song hits me too hard. I’m definitely falling in love with someone where it feels kind of hopeless and like it might not go anywhere, but I’m too stupid in love to go for anyone else. Anyway, gorgeous video for a gorgeous song

Her voice makes me come to terms with feelings of sadness
Magnificient voice! It makes my heart crawl under a warm blanket.
Just outstanding. Sometimes songs take a few listens to really grow and hit you hard. This one had me in tingles all the way through and really took the wind out of me. God she is astounding.
I’ve been listening to the album nonstop, AND NOW A MUSIC VIDEO 💛

This video is exactly how I pictured the song in my head - grey landscape, a moon peeking out behind foggy clouds, walking barefoot on an endless highway... Beautiful song and beautiful images.
This woman’s entire discography will be playing at my funeral.
For me Phoebe is one of the geatest discoveries in the last 10 or 20 years. Great traditional American song writing in it's best sense. It's because of artists like Phoebe why I can never dislike the United States. I can only say "Thank you, Phoebe!"
John Doe from *X* on harmonies, a legend for decades now. Phoebe's already a legend at 24.

Freaking amazing. Phoebe's voice kills me everytime.
Went to see The National and Cat Power in Philly and fell in love with Phoebe. Cat was wonderful.
This song is just unbelievably good.
Been dating this guy for a little while now and one of our first conversations was about Jeffrey Dahmer, so this song got me feeling all romantic and shit.

Love this song, keep them coming
I remember reviewing the original version of this song from an EP of the same name back in 2014- and for me- that one will always be my favorite.
“when a machine keeps me alive and i’m losing all my hair i hope you kiss my rotten head and pull the plug” i lost my grandma to cancer and this breaks me down every time. sometimes i imagine it’s what she was telling us, in the end she lost all her hair and we had to make the decision if she died or stayed with us.
love you phoebe. youve made my 2018 great

Thank you for your music Phoebe. You've made my day so many times and for that I'll be forever grateful. Much love X
Phoebe Bridgers, you are a beautifully sad soul, and I connect with that
WOOOW I love it so much, I knew this was a masterpiece since the beginning, the symphony is ANGELIC
Can’t stop listing to this ❤️
You get me everytime! Sob.😭
Sometimes I think I'm a killer Scared you in your house Even scared myself by talking About Dahmer on your couch But I can't sleep next to a body Even harmless in death Plus I'm pretty sure I'd miss you And faking sleep to count your breath Can the killer in me Tame the fire in you? Is there nothing left to do for us? I am sick of the chase But I'm hungry for blood And there's nothing I can do But when I'm sick and tired When my mind is barely there When a machine keeps me alive And I'm losing all my hair I hope you kiss my rotten head And pull the plug Know that I've burned every playlist And given all my love Can the killer in me Tame the fire in you? I know there's something waiting for us I am sick of the chase But I'm stupid in love And there's nothing I can do And there's nothing I can do

I am glad you kids have a good singer songwriter in these dark times of idiocy. I am almost 40 and I found this nice writer Phoebe randomly a few weeks ago. It's very good and sadly rare for these times. Times of mumble and pop and sexploitation over substance.
This is beautiful.. especially the last verse before refrain.. ugly crying over here rn

“I hope you kiss my rotten head and pull the plug” hurts every time
I'm just in awe...
She's utterly amazing. Total genius. An absolute goddess.

Wow! Amazing!!
Interestingly this song was first released on her EP from 2014 which was called Killer, and is extremely underrated and very cool.
All things beautiful + all things haunting = Phoebe Bridgers
