The Thermal Thruster actually can extinguish teammates (there’s even a contract for it) but it’s hard to pull off and it’s usually a waste of a jump, since you only get 2.

I hate the phlog cause no airblast and the only time people are good with it is when the enemy team sucks, when they have a medic shoved up their ass presumably to scrape out the tumors that have replaced their colon or if using the scorch shit and that thing only exists to ruin other people's fun. Seriously this loadout is respectable if you're a piece of shit

When you get kicked for being great at pyro, accused of hacking

I think the scorch shot would be cool if it was turned into a mini loose Cannon. Basically the mini-crit on burning players is removed and so is the aoe and the stun/knockback. Instead now if you land a direct hit it drops to the ground and if the person you hit with the direct gets hit with the aoe from the dropped flare they get mini critted and knockbacked.

the rocket pack is REALLY GOOD for the dragon's fury--- it needs no use of a combo, it's essentially a flare gun primary, reducing a combo to just one weapon that ignites itself + the extra range fireballs offer compared to loose flames is pretty valuable beware of other pyros and airblast, they can reflect you as you've essentially become soldier at that point, but with fire

5:18 that play was beautiful to behold.

a effective combo i have also found for both agressive play and defensive. is Stock flamer(mine is ponka surprise) scorch shot Homewrecker(or the maul reskin) I also used to have the degreaser instead, before evolving into my final form. both still let me send consistant combo flares and flames that makes anyone back off, wont be as effective against enemy pyros. but as you learn how the flame thrower and scorch shot works. you can consistantly out damage shotgun wielding pyros. ultimately play with what you want to play with, these were just my preferred weapons that I had lots of consistancy with. Edit: I recommend aiming for peoples feet with the scorch shot, it sends em up in the air and makes it easier for that follow up flair ignite to mini crit. and can absolutely melt light classes without much issue. and harass snipers, medics, and other medium to heavy classes.

another way to play offensive pyro is using the degreeser with the panic attack and quick switching between both for extreme damage

I love the dragon's fury but it is buggy sometimes which can be very frustrating if my fireball is just deleted. I suppose the offensive and flanking playstyles are extremely map-dependant and as you say, the offensive playstyle often relies on being among teammates to support you in order to deal huge damage. So it's kind of hard to go into a game with the intent to play 'purely offensive', it's more situational, if you notice an opportunity for it. Looking forward to the 'mastered' playstyle video! Also your voice and editing style make your videos very easy to watch.

As a long time Pyro main I can say I really enjoy your videos! You helped me get better at airblasting, though point blank soldier reflect predictions could use some work. But nevertheless your videos are exteremely informative and entertaining! Question: Think you can make a pyro guide to MvM someday? A lot of people see Pyro as a downgrade in that mode when he can be just as useful as Demo. I think a proper guide could help make Pyro more acceptable. Specifically in 2 cities.

I still play pyro so i can support my team, but whenever i get an opportunity to flank I'd do it, i mostly love flanking pyro with degreaser, detonator, and axtinguisher/powerjack. Sometimes flaregun but i really love detonator.

I haven’t really played TF2 since the bots came, but i remember liking Homewrecker + Phlog. I never used the Scorch with phlog but if i’m sitting safely and healing i may as well spycheck and help with sappers. You can help your teammates in return for that sweet fire damage buildup and healing, further encouraging them to support you. Instead of pushing the line, you force yourself to use the taunt as a moment to decide where you’re needed most, then act accordingly. Taking homewrecker is also a good way of making up for the loss of airblast, because instead of wasting your phlog and eating the dirt, you can take a moment to help your engineer and medic deal with a spy, then more easily convince the medic to push with you. 7:10 you can definitely extinguish teammates with a thermal thruster, it’s just badly delayed and you gotta be right next to ‘em For defense, the best secondaries are probably Manmelter for guaranteed ability to extinguish, scorch shot to harass enemies trying to position for a push, or-hear me out- gas passer. Gas passer is a slight downgrade to the scorch shot; as someone defending sentries and denying uber pushes and spy checking, you have full hands. The gas passer lets you be in 2 places at once, allowing you to prioritize what you need to do at the critical moment. Gas passer also means spies are doused as they approach sentry nests for as long as they remain in the cloud, or it covers the choke point just before your sentry when you need to handle the spies yourself. Again, it’s a situational tool, but i do believe there is merit to be found by using the gas passer in defensive scenarios.

I wonder if SVF and dragons fury is a good combo, I might have to try it out. Light them with your melee, then you’re up close and personal with them making it easier to hit your fireball

Stock Detonator and Powerjack can work as an offensive loadout,lesser damage but still allows an easy airblasts

Whenever I play Pyro, I always equip the Dragon’s Fury. The shit this weapon allows you to do is too good to pass up. The only time I’ll use anything else is when they have a lot of soldiers and demos on their team, which case I’ll switch to stock. I LOVE this weapon

protip for the dragons fury: the delay between airblasts is just long enough to pull out a flare gun and fire a shot then switch back without losing any damage meaning there's effectively no reason not to fire a flare after airblasting. Personally I like to use the detonator because of how reliably it can be used to set people on fire if you have good timing. This also kind of blends with another tip which is to play the dragons fury kind of like a reverse combo pyro. Its usually a good idea to hit someone with a flare before you hit them with the DF because it makes up for the DFs lack of afterburn.

What about performing Detonator jumps on enemy’s to do a Phlog taunt cancel, how reliable would that be?

Great video, just a request for when you do flank pyro, since I can't find the information anywhere. How does the backburner recognize when to crit? It feels really inconsistent especially when I'm trying to out rotate heavies or demomen. Anyways, keep up the good work!

Honestly if you ask me the degreaser is a way better offensive flamethrower than either of them as you still have plenty of (fast) airblasts to deal with soldiers and demos. Not to mention you can even go toe to toe with a heavy if you pair the degreaser with the panic attack.

I wish they'd buff the manmelter + Phlog synergy by making it so that whatever fire damage would have been dealt by the burn you extinguished gets added to your phlog meter. I know they don't do weapon synergy based buffs (Or balance changes at all) But I feel like those weapons were made to be used together but the Scorch Shot is just so strong at getting that meter up.

Just wondering, what custom hud do you use?

In defence of the flare gun for phlog, it is good for not only charge meter but also in case you find yourself out by yourself and exposed, you can use the flare gun as a means of defence. This is when you are using phlog for flanking cus you're right, on front lines you get support from team. But also like tou said, pyro is a flexible class and you can use the phlog for other times and saying the flare gun is bad just because on the front lines it's bad isn't giving it enough justice I think. And while we're at it, same goes for the axtinguisher. Having burst damage in any scenario can be good as apposed to only having sustained damage. Not to mention you don't always have full charge meter even if you are constantly spamming scorch shot. Of course it's not as optimal as scorch shot (cus it's broken) but I think you should give more credit to the burst damagers.

I am definitely Flank/Defensive Pyro, unless it’s MvM because then I go offensive and steamroll

We keep forgetting that the powerjack can obliterate enemy buildings in a few swings, so it's a great offensive choice.

I have a slightly different train of thought. The dragon’s fury and phlog are good offensively but rely heavily on positioning or a medic to instigate fights due to lack of counter potential without airblast. In general when on offense you don’t pick when or where you engage, the defenders do. This in my opinions makes both flame throwers more suitable for defensive play when you can decide when and where to engage the enemy to make up for the lack of airblast.

@@Pirateer5 sweet I'm looking forward for part 2! Airblast provides great defensive utility that's for sure. On offense without it sometimes you can feel helpless against knockback effects. The detonator, powerjack, and jetpack do give you options to close the distance but you're really hoping the enemy doesn't hit their shots. Defending chokes with the phlog and DF is much easier than attacking and taking ground in my opinion. That being said anything can work in casual if you believe hard enough.

@@interdimensionalemployee1117 its hated because it feels cheap, yes. But adding an airblast with none of the damage potential wouldnt change that, airblasting still takes prediction and timing. Adding this back in also will perhaps help new players not fall into the trap of only M1+W, and give a bit more support to the team.

@@Freakmaster480 I mean, like Pirateer said in his other video, if you are able to defend with the phlog, you were able to defend anyways. Even in Pirateers own clips, most of the time you run in with crits, get 2 kills and die. Thats not exactly the best defence when you have a much longer respawn timer than BLU. Phlog would still need a full rework but I think this is a step in the right direction to at least alleviate the new player trap the phlog presents.

I edit the auto generated subtitles then translate them to several different languages, takes a little bit of time but worth doing 👍 Will finish the subtitles later today!

I never use the scorch shot because I'm legitimately scared of being harassed or targeted

A miniscule jump on very specific walls with a very specific view angle at a very specific distance from said wall makes Flare jumping very inconsistent, and will likely end in you jumping at the wall and doing nothing.

U technically can jump with the flare gun but ud have to be as insane as sketckeck to try and learn it

I learned it recently to see if it's usable at all in a proper game and its not, evne if you can pull it off consistently you go like less than a jump of distance lmao

The Manmelter is especially useful if you have a pocket medic. And on crowded payload maps. So there has to be a pyro on the other team. When is there NOT an enemy pyro on maps like that? And just because you can build oomph with zero effort using the scorch shot, that doesn't mean it's hard using the Manmelter. The Manmelter is better for team play and survivability.

@@lorenzoazrielprugalidad5557 assuming there's a pyro on the other team and especially if he's using the scorch shot, it's VERY useful. You can build up oomph at least as fast and often faster with all the easy to earn crits. And it's awesome for keeping your pocket medic alive. Not to mention that you regain the ability to get a quick 20 health. It's situational for a situation that's not even that rare. Finally, when the enemy team complains about getting torched so badly the whole game, you can correctly say that at least you aren't using the scorch.

Imo degreaser and panic attack pyro almost always wins a pyro duel against a plog pyro (unless mmppphh) the lack of airblast makes phlog really bad since soldiers and demomen can kill you since you have no long range projectiles that do much damage, stock or degreaser are really, really good for pyro and with a flare gun or shotgun you can take on heavies without needing damage like the phlog
