    I have a juvenile serpens, which is my 2nd attempt at growing one, and it is definitely sensitive to overwatering. Yep, you guessed it, the first one rotted out and it got into the stem before I noticed that the damage was done. Also, the Spidermites do love this plant, so I have to check consistently. I also have a squamicaule pink and that one is a lot more easy going, although it still needs careful watering. I definitely can't wait to see my serpens grow up to be as magnificent as yours as it was a plant that I fell in love with immediately on discovering. Cost-wise, I paid £30 for both of my serpens from a seller in the UK, which I think was reasonable, even though when purchased they were only single leaf props. But I would definitely pay that every time just to have it in my collection. I was so excited to see that your review was about this plant 😊

    Hey Carey 👋👋👋👋 Your experience with the juvenile serpens is quite a journey! Overwatering can be tricky, as you saw I experienced it a bit with my first one. It's great that you're giving it another go. The squamicaule pink sounds like a great addition too. £30 sounds like a fair deal for such a unique plant. Good luck with your serpens growth, I am sure in your new space it will love it! 😊🌱

    I have a rather small baby Serpens. I had wanted one for a long time, specifically for the fuzzy petioles, despite the fact that I have heard horror stories about their care. So far, so good. It lives in my Ikea cabinet which I think is part of the key as it gets very consistent humidity around 80%. I do have Fuzzy Petiole as well. That plant looked nice for several months, but it does not like unfurling leaves in my home environment, and the petioles are WAY less fuzzy than some other options. It went into my cabinet when I got the cabinet in September, and it still doesn’t look amazing. It also got booted out of the cabinet today, because I brought home a new plant I had been waiting for (Philodendron Emerald Ice), and the new baby gets a cabinet spot, so someone else had to move out to make room! 😂

    Hello Memo, thanks for this very informative video. I bought a one leaf juvenile Serpens a year ago for 55€ (here in France) and had a difficult time to acclimate it to my conditions. It seemed to demand high humidity. I transfered it to PON and gave it a moss pole, grow lights and a humidifier nearby. Very slowly it produced a second and a third leaf. I tried to propagate the top cut in moss in my small greenhouse but after a few weeks it rotted completety : ( Now my serpens has 4 leafs and a new one coming but still veeeery slowly ! The leaves haven't size up noticeably. I love it but it is definitely one of my most challenging philodendron. In the hairy philo team, my Squamiferum is way easier :)

    Got a juvenile 2 leaf Serpens. I believe that it was water propagated and then placed in a semi hydro setup, then shipped to me. I think juveniles in this setup is easier to ship compared to soil based medium. I immediately repotted it in pon and in a semi hydro setup although I should be acclimatizing it first, which I didnt do. It also had a new leaf growth which I was a bit worried about. Did not have any repot shock at all and the new leaf is pushing out well. I think there needs to be an experiment on water propagation to semi hydro Vs soil to semi hydro or all variations thereof... Should be interesting as my water or semi hydro propagations seems to take to semi hydro setup like a champ

    Beautiful plant. I was seriously looking at getting one for a couple of seasons now when Ecuagenera comes to town. Love the fuzzy combined with red. The growth pattern scared me though. Hard to verbalize. I like growing monsters and the big examples I saw looked top heavy, if that makes sense🤪. Mealies on the petioles is horrific! Lol Great vid as usual.

    Thanks, Richard! The serpens does have a striking combination of fuzziness and color. Top-heavy growth patterns can be a challenge, especially with larger specimens. Mealies can indeed be a nightmare on those petioles, as I have come to know! 😂🌱

    Hey hey, i've been growing P. serpens for a while now and for everyone telling you this might be not a serpens: This is a pretty mature serpens and how they grow in the northern hemisphere. They loose a bit of their fuzzies and might look a bit more like similar species but it's 100% a serpens. :) About plant care etc i can totally relate, it's a bit of a hassle in the beginning but as soon as it acclimates to your place it's a pretty chill plant. I've not really struggled with pests on serpens, but i can see why mealies and spider mites might be attracted to this plant. 🫠🤣 In the beginning of getting into plant collecting i upped the humidity always quite a bit and struggled so much more with pests of any kind, since i stopped doing that i don't have many pests at all but i can only speak from my experience. Also i totally understand why people would prefer higher humidity for the leaves of their plants etc. for me having a bit of brown tips on the leaves is much less annoying than any pest but at some point you have to choose your fights i guess. 😄

  • @rafalz9275
    @rafalz92758 ай бұрын

    I have found this plant and squamicaule to be difficult to acclimate , and when they still young they need higher than 60% humidity to properly develop their leaves. I haven't managed to grow an adult specimen yet, so I won't comment on how that goes in room humidity (40-60%) .
