Philips Fidelio X2HR Review 2024 | Open Back Headphones For Bassheads

Ғылым және технология

This is a full review of the Philips Fidelio X2HR. The bottom line here is that these are open back headphones for people who want BASS. Open back headphones usually lack deep and heavy bass due to limitations in hardware and design but these bring the BASS.

Just got some for £30 second hand, but on arrival, they are really good condition . I found this lovely smooth sound perfect for " Portishead or massive attack." At first, but when I expored classical, voice based music and others, and they brilliant arounder . As you say, the bass is lovely, but it doesn't drowned out mids nor nices At you see, I really enjoy these headphones and would recommend them to everyone.

Crazy amount of Siblance with Oneodio 80 OHM powred using Fiio K3 (Gain on) but not that bad without Gain. Trying these or X3 they're way too popular oh well. will still keep the Oneodio there's something about Oneodio house sound i just love.

Love your use of audiophile humor. This was a great review. I got my first pair of x2 in 2017; bought a used pair of the original 2014 woox distributed x2, in great condition. Shortly after I bought another used pair followed by a brand new pair. In 2022 I bought a used pair of x2hr (sound the same as the original x2.) Then I bought a used pair of x2hr meticulously fitted with pleather pads, unfortunately that ruins the sound imo, brings the bass up even more at the expense of the mids and treble. As you can see I'm no stranger to the fidelios. I still own them all. Like you I have other more audiophile sounding headphones, so I know whereof I speak when I say you're review was spot on. You hit the bullseye in everything you said. I still listen to the fidelios on a regular basis and I love the fact you can buy any old after market cable if you want a shorter cable. There are times when I need a longer cable; the best of both worlds. Once again I say great review. I'm subscribing.

Thanks so much for the kind words! Great to know about the ear pads. The X2HR is definitely different but in a great way imo. When I need a neutral or dry sounding reference I take out my AKG K712 Pros or Sennheiser HD 560s. Otherwise, the X2s are very easy to listen to. Do you have any experience with the X3?

Great looking cans. I prefer a longer cable. I settled on OG Kennerton Valis as they also have great bass for open backs.

I’ve never heard of the Kennerton Valis before. I’ll have to check them out. How do you like them?

They're good cans, especially considering they can be found for around $100 if you shop around a bit. The X2HR simply gives you good low end punch, but with the advantages of an open can. They also have a detachable cable, which is very good indeed both for use with an inline mic and since the stock cable is annoying. Hart modular cables are the way to go here, especially if you also use them on other headphones (that's a hint). Lastly, the velour ear pads are OK, but you can do better. Dekoni leather pad are just that and more comfortable into the bargain. I use mine with a number of DAC/Amps, but mostly either a Schiit Hel or Hel2e depending what computer is in use.

I'll have to check out Hart cables. I got a shorter cable a while ago but I'm always looking for improvements! Do the Dekoni pads change the sound in any meaningful way?

@@KenCreates I'm not really the person to ask about something that subjective. My hearing isn't what you'd call great. They're more comfortable to me and I think they sound a bit more open with the leather. We're not talking a huge difference here.
