I've a different Aquatouch model that's about 6 years old, never used it 'wet' but I still suffered an intermittent switching problem though. Anyway, I pulled it completely apart following your instructions, then gave everything a damn good clean with various brushes and some ancient Remington "Shaver Saver" cleaning/lubricating liquid. After reassembly the machine works perfectly, looks as good as new and smells great. I just hope the battery's OK still. Oh, and I will NEVER use it 'wet'. Many thanks for the video; it gave me the confidence to pull my shaver apart.

Bro, this is the exact solution for my philips sensotouch 2d. My razor wouldn't start, or start for a few seconds then turn off, while all the lights flash. So i just cleaned the start button like u did. But i chose not to unsolder it, i just removed to top cap of the button and cleaned the 2 plates and the bottom contact. Thanks a million!

Very useful video, thanks for sharing. For anybody else that thinks their on/off switch may be the source of their problems, it's worth noting that it is possible to dismantle the switch while it is still mounted on the circuit board. I managed to very carefully prise the metal cap off my own switch, clean the intervals, and reassemble it. 👍

In fact only 1% of the users of this product take pains for even thinking and then attempting to repair the trimmer by themselves, leaving no option except to throw and buy afresh. The company takes advantage of this mentality of the helpless customers. Moreover, rest the faulty switch, the product is robust and so will fail seldom. The company, may be, intentionally leaves a weak point in the product to maintain sales figure up. Replacing of the switch must be difficult as that may not be available in the market. Nevertheless the effort in attempting to repair the miniature giant weak point, making a nice vdo and the commentary definitely deserve applause. WELL DONE.

Thanks Jonny Fix. Very helpful video. Instead of pulling the miniature switch apart, I dribbled some DeOxit cleaner ($30 at JayCar Electronics) into it and operated the switch multiple times. After that it worked much better. After reassembling the shaver, I shook it (thumped it) vigorously from side to side to slosh the cleaning fluid and corrosion products around inside. After that it worked perfectly. Thanks so much Jonny Fix.

I believe this model has a lithium-ion battery. If not used for a year it would have gone into deep discharge and shut down for safety. You should replace it. Unless there is physical damage inside there is no other likely reason it doesn't work.

Mine was purchased in April of 2018 and as soon as the blade replacement light came on, the switch started acting up. After somewhere between 10 to 40 switch pushes it would come on or after unplugging it from the charger it would come on. What I ended up doing is holding down the switch to get the blade replacement light to come back on and then holding it to power it off. Then it started working again.

Hi Jonny, I have a problem with essentially the same model of shaver. The battery works fine, everything works as it should except the motor is not turning the mechanisms past a point. It will turn it say a quarter of a turn then just stop, but will still make the buzzing noise as it is still working. It's as if there is something jamming it in the motor area, as I have disassembled the rest of the shaver, cleaned it and still no solution.

Without looking into it I'd guess the drive gears have stripped where the motor meets the 3 spindles. Another possibility is the brushes in the motor have worn out.

Definitely, this line of shavers is water resistant, but not water proof. I had an AT940 that I used over two and a half years, and this week it stopped working! When opening the shaver the PCB was all wet, even with the sealed protection. Since the PCB had broken trails, I sent it to the trash! I'm disappointed with Philips, now I expect to find a new replacement for my AT940.

If it doesn't turn on until after you plug in charger than probably the battery but without checking the voltage while it's running and seeing if it drops off quickly it's a bit hard to know.

You need to identify the main power rails and make sure they are present. I would then use a scope to make sure the clock signal is present followed by activity on the flash memory data lines. No clock may be bad cpu or bad solder joints to cpu. Some data traffic probably means corrupt OS / boot loader or whatever it uses and will need to be re-flashed. It could mean bad flash memeory. Just initial thoughts. Have never worked with one.

Unfortunately I do not have an oscilloscope available. I can not access the pins of the CPU, here you need a hot air station to detach it and then you need a kit (cheap but functional) for re-balling. But if I connect the tp "Vbus" with the tp1 can I feed the card directly from the micro-usb ...? It is an attempt I would like to do! I've never been lucky enough to see one of these cards running. I remember that when I bought it and fed it I immediately saw a grayish smoke and the IC SY8008 was carbonized instantly. I have the spare part but I miss a suitable lens otherwise I only struggle with the sight without results

Does the motor spin if you connect it to a different power source? If it doesn't when set at the normal battery voltage then you need new motor. Prove this by checking voltage at motor terminals on pcb when switched on.

I had the same problem - the solution? Bought a new shaver. Can't really complain since the Norelco 810 lasted about 7 years. Actually I can complain. Norelco should upgrade that "switch" to something a bit more robust. It probably cost them $0.50USD. The upgrade? Maybe $1? So unless Philips Norelco picked that "switch" as a planned obsolescence, they might consider the "upgrade". Might give them a better reputation. Which might help there bottom line and survive-ability. In today's very competitive markets that's probably something to think about.

Big help. Thanks...I think the locking nut...the plastic, black sorta circular item with the arrows imprinted on it, may be the culprit. • @JonnyFix

    @JonnyFix

In the centre of the black locking wheel are 3 flats that rotate to move under 3 overhangs on the blue stem to hold it in place. The whole assembly needs to be sitting down in position right to allow this. I can't imagine they'd really wear out so unless maybe one or more of the 3 flats has broken off. I used to wash mine out each time but the damp made it start to smell bad so I just shake/tap it out and give it a good clean every now and then. Is all good :)

WELL DONE.

@@JonnyFixAfter looking the VDO so many times, I gathered the details of the fine work on the micro switch. Mine Philips AquaTouch shaver is suffering with the same defect with its switch. I find myself somewhat confident to take up the surgical strike on it. I guess, desoldering the switch from the board may not be necessary to open it. If the top silver cover can be detached from its base, it can be cleaned well. It will avoid the risky task of desoldering and soldering again. Do you agree? By the way, there are two contacts on either side of the switch on my circuit board from it. I want to wait for your experienced advice and nod before going ahead.

Double check your work, make sure you haven't blobbed solder across connections that shouldn't be joined? Otherwise I don't know. Is there a switch to turn trimmer on and off or is it only active if you pop it out? (don't know this model). If it turns on when popped out maybe something isn't aligned correctly when you re-assembled.

These Philips shavers are the biggest pile of crap Philishave have ever produced. I have an AT928 and it is supposed to be waterproof - yet when it stopped working, and I pulled it apart, it contained a heap of water, right through to the PCB! The plastic lugs on the cover over the PCB, snap off the instant you try to pry them off, making the shaver non-repairable. I went to the trouble of buying a new battery for it (it crapped out after only 18 months), and when I went to start it up after battery replacement, it won't shut off!! It's not worth spending any effort on repairing this model Philishave, they are truly a throwaway model!

I have rebuilt the switch another 3 times now, not the greatest quality. I guess you could start by testing the motor with a bench supply. Put battery voltage on it and see if it runs fast to prove motor is ok. If so the battery could be failing or the transistor that passes current to the motor.
