Philip-Lorca diCorcia: Photographs 1975 - 2012

American artist Philip-Lorca diCorcia (b. 1951, Connecticut) is one of the most important photographers working today. This is the first UK exhibition to show works spanning his career, offering an opportunity to appreciate the development of diCorcia's work. This large-scale survey contains over 100 photographs from six major series. In this video artist Philip-Lorca diCorcia and curator Dr. Sam Lackey discuss the thought processes behind the work as well as the exhibition on display at The Hepworth Wakefield 14 February - 1 June 2014.

    The audio captures the woman's plosives in this sharp, jarring way and it is k i l l i n g me.

    With the exception of the interior sets, my first impression was of street photography. As a street photgrapher, myself, I was impressed by diCorcia's ability to make these scenes seem more or less candid, until I realized they were staged.

    I like the way he staged the shots. I thought that was the purpose of this art form. PL carried it out superbly.

    I think a lot of his street photos are not staged actually! At least in one of the projects he set up a hidden strobe by a crosswalk and shot with a telephoto lens
