I've been a huge fan of Pantera, since I first heard them in 1991. They loved their audiences. Pantera was and is still my favorite band. They were the tightest and hardest, plus they had heart, soul, passion, talent, unbelievable energy and awesome stage presence. I haven't seen a better frontman, since David Lee Roth. Pantera were the Undisputed Kings of metal! It's so sad to have lost Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott. R.I.P Brothers. Pantera fans are the best and most loyal. Peace, love and RE-SPECT 👊💔😢

I must meet Phil some day. Even if not for long. I must shake his hand and bow. A legendary front man that deserves much respect. I would show the same respect to any Pantera member, I just find it most likely that I could find some way in the future to meet Phil.
Phil is awesome! In the Top 5 greatest frontmen of all time!!
dont forget the legend Vinnie on drums.. easily one of the best metal drummers of all-time.
Pantera, in my opinion are still the Kings of metal! Phil is right, I've been a Pantera fans since 1991 and I'm still loyal as hell to them. I still listen to them every single day. R.I.P Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell Abbott. RE-SPECT 👊
Phil Anselmo is a legend without him Pantera would not be the band that it is despite his decisions long live Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell.
Phil doesn’t have to explain a damn thing. No musician should have to. Whatever the case, these bands are exactly like family’s. Functional, dysfunctional, brothers and sisters, some even act like parental units. Fact is, they don’t owe us shit. They give us everything. It’s our to duty to not spread stories, and let the families hash it out on their own.

I couldn't agree more. No need to be all nosey and fucking judgemental like you fucking new them. Just appreciate the kickass music they gifted the world and that's pretty much it! 🤘
I remember in '99 at México City at the middle of their set he yelled at the audience "tha fuck are you doin' over there, get closer!" And everyone started lifting their chairs and tossing them to the back. Within a minute there were chairs flying all over the pit, one of them hit me on the head. My back and part of my face were covered with blood. Then all of the sudden Anselmo started to sing the Mexican National Anthem. It was mesmerizing to hear us all yelling the anthem at a Pantera concert. That big Pantera was. Greatest fucking thing I've seen at a metal concert.
Love you Phil 🤘🏻 🤘🏻
Phil has shown his love and devotion to metal time amd time again. Their will never be another like him
I have to agree with Phil...that behind the music was horrible. It was all about dimes drinking, and dimes death. Other than that, it skimmed through everything else. They could have done ALOT better for such a great band.
I miss that old school mosh etiquette too! Biggest pits ever. Tightest band. Can't believe I can never see them again...
I remember seeing them on the trendkill tour and Phil actually had to stop the show cause a guy had a razorblade in the mosh pit. People climbing onto the lights over the stage and all kinds of shit. Pantera shows were as extreme as you can get.🤘

You've never really loved a person if you've never felt like killing them at one moment in your life. Love is something that roots so deeply in us that it hurts where no-one can see. I love you Dime. I love you Phil
This is the brief period when Phil was sober (off heroin) and it's very obvious. His speech sped up and his thinking was much clearer. He also seemed happier and joked around more (like he used to in the early 90's, pre-heroin). He didn't stay clean for very long though.

I fucking respect this guy so much! Peace out!
Phil Dime Vinnie and Rex were the heartbeat of 90s metal. They went against the trend. Without Pantera, heavy metal would not be where it is today and their albums are timeless. That's facts kids.
Cut the bullshit people. Dime and Vin said themselves there was no drama or hard feelings when they split. So what if Phil wanted to do other side projects? He isn't the only musician in history to do that. Does it cause every band to split up? Of course not! So again, cut the bullshit. Phil can be a prick but what of it? You expect him to be a fucking saint? He's the lead singer of Pantera ffs. Not lead singer for a soft jazz band. It's a metal band! Of COURSE he's going to be a prick sometimes! None of those guys were perfect and they all knew it too. And then to top it all off, the man suffered from intense back problems. Like my Father did and maybe worse. My Father was a miserable son of a bitch to be around and it happened to him twice. Made him and everyone around him miserable with the pain he was in. Phil's solution was a terrible one (drugs), but in his mind it was better than going through the surgery and being out of the band for at least a year to heal up. That's commitment!

@@Nissardpertugiu Have to agree with you on that one. Look at Gar and Poland, both came from a jazz-fusion band, and they both (along with Dave and David) make up the true lineup of Megadeth....for me. They had the attitude and serious love for the H.

I think a lot of it had to do with outside influences as well. I could be wrong, but once you hear about girlfriends and wives getting involved it's pretty much over. There were too many whispers in the bedroom that drove a stake between the 4 men that made up Pantera.
When they came out I didn't appreciate the last two albums the way I do now. Even more brutal, if that's possible. On the crowd, everyone was helping each other up. This was the 90's Far Beyond tour.
"Cuz we were just music fans man,we were fans of music man."

yeaaaaaaaaaaaah really good! good luck dude
PUT THE FULL THING UP.
Pantera is grander than life!
I'd love to sit down with Phil and just listen to this man talk. He has such a unique and intelligent way of speaking and getting his point across.
My 1st concert I was 17 seeing Pantera in 1996. I was 5'8" about 135lbs and wore glasses. I got knocked down in that pit so many times and somebody was always there to pick me right back up.
Phil has always been inspirational to me, coincidently enough i injured myself pretty badly in a pit at a down show, ended up addicted to dope after the docs pumped me full of painkillers as a result.. now that ive cleaned up its interesting that pantera has been there for every major moment in my life since i was a kid, good and bad, and i can relate with it, and a lot of what he talks about regarding his own personal struggles in his interviews, its not pleasant.
This voice..
I saw Down lastnight. Phil can put on a freakin show!!! The show was insane!!!
I remember trying to get in on that live chat. I was too late. :(
Pantera forever!
I like it.
Even though pantera are massive, they're still underrated.
I fucking LOVE phil, what a beast
Pantera only canceled one show in Atlanta. I was there. Rex had a hypertension issue and required an ambulance but they still payed for two hours.
There's a whole lotta good they seem to leave out. WORD EM UP
Phil Anselmo is a legend
he rules
Documentaries like "Behind the Music", which sure they show some interesting and real stuff, are all made as TV-sensation. - They edit it in such a way that they keep banging on the same dramatic stuff.
Saw Pantera with White Zombie back in the day Phil was not sober, but it was a good show
This dude is a trip
PANTERAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING PHIL. We must think like you. "Pantera have a lot of positive things". Every fucking band have dark moments
He still looks young and the same like 10 years ago :D
man, im so bummed i didnt live in this era to see PANTERA! i hate the fact of not knowing about this AMAZING band until it was to late to see them. being 13 blows.. but i will stay true to the classics. METAL NEVER DIES
what an ass kickin' cool voice !!!!!!!
'old school etiquette- I miss it' -Phil Could not have said it better!
"You catch the stage diver, you don't start fights and you know which way the pit is going...." old school etiquette!!!!
Very well done on Phil's part.
Phil Anselmo the real deal! 100%!
Personally, he has many tastes in music and god bless him for trying to step outside the box that people contained him in, but to me, his best work EVER IS PANTERA AND DOWN. That grungy, dirty souther New Orleans metal aesthetic is fucking sick.
Phil looks like 92-94 era Phil here
I personally would like to hear rex's view on everything. Nobody ever heard rex's point of view and he was there from the beginning through it all. I love pantera always will.
I got uppercutted by some kid skanking through a pit. he said sorry. I gave him the stink eye.. smiled and kept going. Thanks Phil/and Pantera. You put a chapter into my life I would never wish away.
Rest In Pantera, Dime
Anselmo is so right 100% correct

Since 97-23🤘🏽
@xXxMortixXx Yep. I'll never forget that show just because me and my friends were stoked to see MH and Pantera in the same show.
@xXxMortixXx Just found it. 8/2/97 - The Meadows in Hartford, CT. It was Machine Head and Coal Chamber. They supported all dates for that tour.
This was Phil’s in between period from speaking normally to speaking 2 sentences a minute in drop B
Don't write something Online that you don't have the heart to say " in the real world" you know Phil would crush you
@DTOMUSA74 I agree with you 100%. I listen to Trendkill and it reminds me of the time I almost died because my pot was not just laced, but poisoned. People go through tough times, and good friends should accept that. I wish the best of luck for you. I cannot say I know what you're going through exactly, but I know depression and extreme physical pain. I sincerely hope that gets better for you and keep enjoying Pantera (and hopefully Lamb of God, I would bet).
If that guy has never seen Pantera then why is he doing the interview I've seen Pantera twice I have to say was one of the best shows that I've ever seen the connection that they have with the audience and the loyal fans that we are just make it our own celebration of what we love and what they love I will never forget
@xXxMortixXx Yes, it was for the official live tour. I can't remember who was before Machine Head, but Machine Head was definitely before Pantera. It was the first time I seen em' live. I wanna say Coal Chamber, but I've seen them open for a lot of different shows.
He eventually did get back surgery in the past few years. He had rehab and all that shit. He just was covered up by drugs back in the mid-late-'90s. He used drugs as a painkiller due to his bad back.
I think even if Vinnie wanted to forgive and forget by now he still wouldn't. He's carried this crazy grudge and answered questions about it the same way for so long that he thinks he would look weak or something if he changed his mind. He took it too far to go back. Its pretty sad but maybe someday he'll get over it. I can't imagine how losing my brother that insanely would make me feel about things, so it might just take a lot more time.
I'm a diehard Pantera fan and fuckin' proud of who I am...and yes I saw the documentary too and Phil is right...I don't mind getting shit for my comment coz' Hell Yeah!!! I agree with Phil a 100%\m/
the rest of the interview!? anyone?
