PHILAE ISLAND - THE LAST ANCIENT EGYPTIAN TEMPLE! ASWAN EGYPT
Let's explore one of the most charming ancient sites - Philae Island, located at the first cataract in Aswan. A great number of still standing ancient temples date back to the Greco-Roman period, in particular to the Ptolemaic dynasty (305 to 30 BC). The Great Temple of Isis, initiated by Ptolemy II Philadelphus, is widely known as the last functioning ancient Egyptian temple as it was closed only in the 6th century AD.
From the very beginning the island was dedicated to ,,the mother of all gods’’ - Isis, sister-wife of the god of fertility and the King of the Afterlife - Osiris. According to Egyptian mythology, their son, Horus, saved humanity from evil Seth. Let’s get to know more about this story and about Isis, once the most important goddess in Egypt.
Come with me and get inside ancient Egyptian temples: the temple of Isis, the temple of Hathor, and the Kiosk of Trajan.
Let’s get to know more about the ancient history, beliefs, and architecture of this wonderful place!
Explored in February 2022.

It is mind-blowing to me that we know almost nothing about rituals of the ancient Egyptian religion. Even though , it was still practiced till at least the 400s AD in full light of history
I am Egyptian, welcome to Egypt. I hope your visit to Egypt is enjoyable, Egypt is a beautiful country and there are many beautiful cities such as Luxor, Aswan, Alexandria, Dahab, Siwa Oasis, Sinai and many other beautiful places.

What an amazing vid, I love Egyptology and Egyptian temples...they are way more interesting than the pyramids imho. And yes, I would also recommend people watch how these temples were moved in the 70s. A monumental achievement, especially the Ramesses 2nd temple. Great stuff AS...peace to ya.

Apart from the main topic covered here I also was surprised to see so-called 'grooved markings' (German: 'Wetzrillen', de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetzrille) on these buildings (examples: 4:02, 4:27, 5:15, 21:37,...). I wasn't aware till now they also occur in Egypt but this can be quickly verified in internet indeed. Interesting!

pilgrims scraped dust from temple walls probably from the New Kingdom to Late Antiquity. apparently they used special spoons intended for this purpose
@ittrax

@@ancientsitesgirl I agree with you this could be the most convincing explanation. Still, in contrast to this, they also can be found on secular buildings. I'm not sure about spoons because of the shape of these traces. Fascinating topic :-)
The black Madonna is a remnant of Isis in the modern world. The Nubian priestesses were the keepers of this temple even going into Rome and Greece as guardians of the wisdom of this devotion. Isis and Hathor are the representation of the dark mother. There are many places in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean that worship this energy by another name. In Nigeria this was known as orisha worship with Isis being represented as Oshun and Hathor as Yemoja. This worship was kept alive brought across the Atlantic with enslaved Africans. In Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Central America, Trinidad we call Isis Oshun and Hathor is called Yemaya. In Haiti she is called Azuli or and Hathor is Mamiwatta. This African idea of female fertility goddesses, protectors of childbirth, home and hearth lives on in the modern world. Read Lucia Chiavola Birnbaum's book "Dark Mother" she details this whole journey of Isis and the black mother goddess of humanity.

At the approximate timestamp of 12:19, I noticed that one of the figures portrayed in the relief has a similiar ornament on its head as a depiction of Cyrus The Great. I'd never given any consideration to this headpiece, nor had I seen it in anything other than the relief of Cyrus The Great; would do you know what the head piece is or represents? Thank you, any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

This is a Hemhem crown. If I'm not wrong it started to be portrayed during the 18th Dynasty, but was very popular among Ptolemeic rulers, like Ptolemy XII here. :)

It's interesting that "Moses" foster mother name was "Asiyah" which is close to "Aset", according to Islamic tradition. I know this tidbit has no historical value. But it it signifies that "Isis" name lived on in the unlikeliest of places and recessss of history.
