PHILAE ISLAND - THE LAST ANCIENT EGYPTIAN TEMPLE! ASWAN EGYPT

Let's explore one of the most charming ancient sites - Philae Island, located at the first cataract in Aswan. A great number of still standing ancient temples date back to the Greco-Roman period, in particular to the Ptolemaic dynasty (305 to 30 BC). The Great Temple of Isis, initiated by Ptolemy II Philadelphus, is widely known as the last functioning ancient Egyptian temple as it was closed only in the 6th century AD.
From the very beginning the island was dedicated to ,,the mother of all gods’’ - Isis, sister-wife of the god of fertility and the King of the Afterlife - Osiris. According to Egyptian mythology, their son, Horus, saved humanity from evil Seth. Let’s get to know more about this story and about Isis, once the most important goddess in Egypt.
Come with me and get inside ancient Egyptian temples: the temple of Isis, the temple of Hathor, and the Kiosk of Trajan.
Let’s get to know more about the ancient history, beliefs, and architecture of this wonderful place!
Explored in February 2022.

The black Madonna is a remnant of Isis in the modern world. The Nubian priestesses were the keepers of this temple even going into Rome and Greece as guardians of the wisdom of this devotion. Isis and Hathor are the representation of the dark mother. There are many places in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean that worship this energy by another name. In Nigeria this was known as orisha worship with Isis being represented as Oshun and Hathor as Yemoja. This worship was kept alive brought across the Atlantic with enslaved Africans. In Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Central America, Trinidad we call Isis Oshun and Hathor is called Yemaya. In Haiti she is called Azuli or and Hathor is Mamiwatta. This African idea of female fertility goddesses, protectors of childbirth, home and hearth lives on in the modern world. Read Lucia Chiavola Birnbaum's book "Dark Mother" she details this whole journey of Isis and the black mother goddess of humanity.
