Been following your channel for a while now. Good stuff. My grandfather was a Captain in the PFD when he retired in 1978. He started in 1946 after returning from the war. He's long since passed, but I remember his stories about major jobs like the Fretz building, Normandie Hotel, and many others. He was an instructor at the Fire College (behind Engine 39/Ladder 30) in the days before the Academy opened in the Northeast. I'll always have an interest in the PFD because of him. Anyway, glad I found your channel - your helmet cam vids are great - keep 'em coming and stay safe out there!

😮Amazing the amount of space there was to maneuver the ground ladder from the 2nd fl to the roof. You guys are the greatest.

Why aren't you using the aerial ladder?

Someone asked earlier but I'll repost it - I thought about it initially when I saw the condition of the porch roof, but our aerial is painfully slow to put in service. It's a difference of seconds vs minutes for raising ground ladders versus using our main aerial. So for 2 story dwellings with porch roofs we prefer to "step it up" with a extension 20' and 16' straight ladder. We can get up and over much faster

    No scba smart

Using the aerial in addition to ground ladders affords you multiple escape routes , in case the crap hits the fans . Just like wearing SCBAs regardless of where/ what your assignment is on the fire ground. Not using the aerial or SCBAs is reckless and a cowboy mentality that will get someone hurt.

We're aware of the benefits of using the main with ground ladders. When working a row home job, We're also aware that we can simply go to the next roof, if the fire dwelling roof is compromised. Fuck wearing a pack on the roof. Thanks for your concern though.
