I use this cab with a C4 on top, so all in all 12 5" speakers powered by the PJB PB-800 amp, and I love it! I had the Ampeq "fridge" before, but wanted a bass rig, that was easier to transport and less "coloring" the sound. The PJB setup I have now is the most "honest" setup I´ve ever used. It reproduces the sound of the bass most accurate of all setups I´ve tried. Sure, the Ampeg setup produced the well known Ampeg boom and growl, but I can mimic that with my pedal board (Helix LT) and the PJB setup actually goes deeper (and cleaner) than the Ampeg. The SVT810 cabinet went down to around 40 Hz where the PJB C4 can reproduce 30Hz and the C8 all down to 25Hz, wich is in the "earthquake" zone...and I love it! The first time I turned it on, volume on half and made a run down to the low B, dust was falling from the cieling of our rehearsal studio....so much punch!

Thats funny man! I used the Ampeg SVT with the fridge cab for quite a while but I got tired of hauling it around. Used many of the top manufacturers amps and cabs but the PJB has that throatyness and snappy high end that I love and without a tweeter! Good stuff!

I bet that new cabinet would sound great combined with your 4 8's cabinet in the back ground.

Thanks Mark, I used that cab last time we jammed, I have it sitting on top of my 4-10, gonna hook 'em both up for next jam

the speakon connectors are actually combo inputs. they work with speakon AND quarter inch jack too

Great review but I kept listening for one thing. It's easy to understand why many small speakers produce great results for slapping and popping....but can this cabinet handle "low and smooth"?

Hey LoZOne, Yer name is just too cool for words, love it, wish I thought of it. To answer your question, I'd say it handles low and smooth just fine. I've been playing bass (just bass) for 45 years and I've always been a stickler for tone and if a cabinet could not go up loud enough for some of the hard rockin' bands that I've played with, I wouldn't be interested in keeping it around. As far as this particular cabinet, it sounds good on its own and can push a good amount of low end but I prefer to hook it up with my 4-10 cab, then it really kills, great tone and nice fat lows. People that think bigger is better have no idea what they are talking about. I have several PJB rigs; they are by far the best speakers and amps I have ever used. I have had several 4x10's and 15's and they aren't even close.

Yep, I've been doing some research on PJB cabs for a while, mainly took notice after hearing a youtube bass speaker comparison video, thats when i had to try one in person. I bought the cab in the video used and its pretty amazing. I know one guy said "he doesn't have ears on his legs" and I get that but I can hear this thing loud and clear, so can everyone on stage with me and probably my neighbors next door.

Hey, wanted to ask you, I haven't heard the PJB bass amps in person, how do they compare with other top of the line amps?

If it’s too heavy, trade it in for two PJB C4 cabinets. These are only 29 lbs each

Hey Drew, Thats actually a good idea but I'm not doing any live gigs right now so its not currently an issue. Is the C4's what you own? I do like the fact that I can roll this one around pretty easy and do most any small to medium size clubs with this one cab. It does sound even better with my 4-10 cab which is lightweight. I like the high end snap the PJB adds to my tone. I guess if I was using 2 C4's that would bump my power output up as well, certainly something to think about. I also was considering the PJB cab with 6 - 7" speakers, forget the model #, maybe C6? Good talkin', thx!

When you are playing, can you feel the bass from the speaker or no? That is one way to tell if it is low and loud.

Thats a good question weather man, typically I don't think about feeling the bass but I know what you mean. I would have to say that yes, you can feel it. If yer talking about feeling the airflow coming from the speakers, thats a definite yes, and that airflow is going to contain some low frequencies. When I'm playing in a medium size club with a fairly big stage in a 5 pc band, I can easily make this thing too loud without using another cabinet and I do like a good amount of low freqs coming out, hope this helps!

@@studioxmusic Interesting, that sounds cool how it can get too loud for a medium sized club. By the way, I meant about how loud the bass is without feeling the airflow from the speakers. Can you feel the bass just from the sound of it? Thanks!

@@PHXAZSTORM816 You will hear the bass and if you put your hand anywhere near the front you will feel airflow. This cab has become my main cab for live and studio and if it didn't have enough bass, I wouldn't be using it. It is pretty amazing that this much bass can come out of 5" speakers. Over the summer I played an outdoor show on the water front. There was jazz bassist in the audience watching our set, when we took a break he was asking me about that speaker cab, he was blown away by the sound, he said he was going to buy one for himself.

@@PHXAZSTORM816 If you look up Phil Jones Bass, he has an interview on youtube where he explains how it works. Keep in mind, it is a small cab, but its not really light, its over 50lbs which is heavier than I care to lift but the roller wheels and handle make it easy to move around. Phil Jones Bass is a very well known and respected manufacturer.

Phil's a Cardiff boy 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 mates with another Cardiff boy Pino Pallidino. One makes great bass amps the other plays from another world.

Am i the only one that thinks PJ bass cabs "sound" small? Are my eyes effecting my ears?

How do you think this amp would handle pedals / Drive & Fuzz

Just to confirm, I'm assuming you know its just a speaker cabinet and not an amp. To be honest, I've had this for less than a year now and haven't gigged much or even jammed with much. I did use it for several gigs when I first got it, I was playing with a cover band at the time but I wasn't using any effects, just trying to concentrate on keeping a clean solid bottom end. It sounded like one of the best cabinets I've ever heard so I have no doubt that it will sound great with drive or fuzz. Maybe I'll do another video demonstrating it using 2 of my Darkglass Microtubes pedals, waddaya think?

I tried 2 C4 cabs and they farted out and that was at medium volume. Not impressed at all.

Thanks for letting me know that, I was thinking about trying 2 C4's because someone else told me to try that because I had complained about the weight of the C8. I think I probably won't go that route now.

Bigger speakers don't need to move as far to push more air.

I guess being the genius that you are you would know ways around that. Hey Tommy, I've never played at a VFW but I have played in coliseums opening up for multiple national acts, live shows in front of 7000 spectators and sold out shows in medium to large clubs also opening up for very well known national acts.

Yes , I can play a Jamerson groove, studied his playing a bit and sometimes use that style with jamming. I previously used strictly finger style. I still go back and forth depending on what I feel serves the song best but I really prefer the tone of a pick, it stands out better and it’s what some of the all time best bassists use.

Where's the beef? The protrusion on the back is for getting up stairs. But if you want to use it to tilt back the cabinet, that works. I find tilting back the cabinet is the best way to tilt back the cabinet but your foot works too. Half 5he size is half the height, eh hem, my ears are still on my head. I'm not playing lying down. This cabinet needs a speaker stand.

Maybe so on the video but thats not what I'm hearing in person, also, I probably had it set to my own liking. My bass has a treble know that I can turn up to make it brighter, I don't recall what I did on the vid but maybe I should have cranked it up higher just so those who like that will be able to hear more high end, thx!

Hey Lawrence, thx for the comment, I never heard that the weight of the cabinet = more bottom end but who knows, you may be right.

Two feet tall, as if that is a good thing. I'm sure it sounds great but I don't have ears on the back of my legs.
