Every great player pays their dues and gets bad beats. We all know that watching him blow up gets far more clicks than seeing him winning on the river. Thanks for the positive post. What got me playing was watching Hellmuth and Moneymaker doing battle all those years ago. Brilliant stuff and like cricket, poker is misunderstood...until you play. Nothing like it on earth.

You're only seeing highlights in this video. I do see him running bad. I just don't get the whole insurance thing or running it twice if you're a great poker player with money in your pockets. My theory is always run it once unless you're playing a big game that's to high for your bank roll.

Regardless of his PNIA results I feel like he's hundreds of thousands down over his Big Game/HSP/PAD play where he was buying in for a minimum of $100K. I don't ever really recall him being a winning player in any of those games. In Phil's defence though he runs sooooo bad in those games it's ridiculous.

In most of the cash games I've seen him play hes been pretty effing bad. His tight trappy style works good for tournaments because people are constantly getting it all in with marginal hands trying to steal blinds and shit. In cash games you have to play more post flop and I dont think Phil is very good at that. Plus sometimes he will go on super tilt and just start playing dumb hands, which loses him money in the long run. I dont think Phil is a big loser in cash games, because hes not THAT bad, but I find it hard to believe hes a winningplayer overall. Well never know from this tiny sample size though. I guess it doesnt matter to him hes got enough money from sponsorships and royalties from that dumbass book he put out last year.

I’ve watched him on many cash game series and I think he is unable to adjust to what players do in certain spots in cash games. I agree in tournaments once the blinds get big enough it’s pretty abc for him but cash is a different monster all together and what his problem is switching between the 2. Online poker taught me never have tournaments and cash games running as it will destroy you in the long run....stick to 1 game 1 style .......

Well Lewis you're about the smartest person I talked to her on this app so far as far as Phil Hellman the guy is not that good compared to players that are playing now look at Phil Ivey been playing half the time as Phil Hellman and he has over a hundred million Phil howling SS is 20 million that tells you the story right there he's not as good as these players and back then they were giving bracelets out really easy the players back then weren't that good so was kind of easy to win bracelets back then compare the players nowadays

I'm sure in 30+ years of playing he's played a lot more cash games than late night poker. A lot of this shit is being unlucky. Some of it is questionable moves but jj against AA and a 4 card straight is just unlucky. He hasn't won that much money without being a good player.

Tends to happen when you do stupid shit like just flat call in MP. Now it was a bad beat that Tilly sucked out on him there, but let's remember that usually no one re raises and then we see a 4 or 5 way flop with AA bc blinds had such a cheap price
