This is arguably the greatest album that virtually no one heard. A masterpiece.

It’s an incredible album and the song Sway is the best song Richard Ashcroft never wrote. Such a crime they never got any real traction. Great music.

Sway is amazing ! I think this song and "Sky Blue" by Peter Gabriel share the same beauty and mystery.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I can't thank you enough for this... My sister, Mary Beth (18yo at the time of recording), and I (32yo at the time of recording - yes I'm 52 😉) are the female bgvs on the album. We literally recorded the vocals in a basement laundry room while the guys were set up in the room outside the door. I don't know what happened to my cd and she can't find hers, either... I left the DC area in 2002 and lost touch with them all. My sister left DC soon after we recorded so she didn't get to do anything live with them, but I did a bunch of shows around DC with them. Always fun... and they were great guys... I was in a writing session with some artists in GA today and we're working on a song that reminded me of Sway so I started digging through YT to see if I could find anything... Thank you for posting it!!!

Well. I couldn't be happier to read a comment like that 😁. Thank you for your kind words. You can't imagine how happy i am to read your story about the recording of this album, and the backstory with your sister. As a musician, i love the recording sessions. Recording an album, sharing these moments (days or weeks) with the other musicians and friends, is really a deep experience. Buying this recording was a really good choice of mine, while i didn't know anything about this band at that time (2004), and i live in France. I was just searching on ebay to buy a "Sigur Ros" record, and this album showed up, described as "a mix between the hovering atmosphere of sigur ros and the eerie vibes of godspeed you black emperor". I clicked the "buy" button almost immediately. And when i heard it, i fell in love with it. Songs like "baby blue" and my favorite "Sway".... gosh. (the backing vocals always reminds me "sky blue" 's outro by Peter Gabriel). Thanks again, and well done (you and your sister) for the vocals on the recording.

So aptly named, Sway is a simply incredible, haunting sonic gem. Immense.“Masterpiece” is right, Kim.Utterly perplexing how some of the most wonderful bands out there like Phaser manage to fly so far beneath the radar as to be virtually invisible to the listening public.Completely insane.

You're totally right ! Virtually invisible, and i think that's a shame. So many good songs on it, i'm listening to it very often, in my car or with friends at home, and they are asking me "hey what's the name of this band, it's really great" ! So i'm doing some kind of "promo" for the band...even if it don't exist anymore...kind of funny i think, but they deserve it, what an album ! ;-).

What a relief that the full album is up on KZread. Thanks for posting it. At least the few of us that appreciate it can listen. (Also, I lost the CD before I saved it to iTunes. Just ordered another one, and it's in "new" condition. A lot of the ones on Amazon are. Maybe it's been reissued?)

To me, a good record is like flying a plane, and this one feels like an orbital one.
