Heritage units has this P42 trackable because it’s the only one wearing phase VII, but they stated it will be delisted if other P42’s get this scheme.

@@utahrailfan1946from what I got from Amtrak once more Chargers get broken into all remaining P42s will get the Phase VII scheme. The heritage units and P40s will not get the Phase VII.

for some reason my friends hate it, they love phase VI but as soon as they add stripes and another blue they hate it. I love it tho!

Actually looks amazing! Another thing I’d like to point out is that they actually put in the model designation, which is something I’ve never seen on any Amtrak locomotives.

The ALC-42s have the model numbers as well. I think it’s becoming a part of Amtrak’s scheme now.

That looks fantastic! It really improves Amtrak’s image

I would love to see more of these Phase VII P42s. They wear it better than the Chargers! Good sign that they might stick around for longer than expected.

Yup! P42s built in the 2000s were selected to stick around longer while we wait for Airo train sets, I read something that said we should expect 82 and 106 to wear the scheme in the coming weeks

Phase VII looks good on the Genesis. That sleeping car also looks to be one fresh out of storage. Both very shiny and clean. 174 has been assigned to the Capitol Limited

This actually isn’t a heritage. From now on Amtrak will be painting its equipment into this Phase VII paint scheme. More P42s that are not being retired will be getting this scheme.

P42s have a 2 step solenoid. 1st step is half blast and 2nd step is full blast. The ALC-42s have them too.

@@betterl8thannvr Disagreed, the old scheme looks awful, it makes American Passenger Trains look outdated, this new scheme gives Amtrak style again, you do you but phase V is not only my most hated Amtrak Scheme but my most hated Railroad scheme overall! It’s about time Amtrak rebranded themselves as flashy! We have no excuse not to have flashy trains, the rest of the world has awesome trains and we should too, and this is another step in that direction

They’ll probably stick around on intercity routes since the ALCs are for long distance. After Airos come in, they might even stay as extra power or rescue units.

174 and the first 2 cars behind it were deadheading from Beech Grove back to Chicago. Everything else behind that is the normal Cardinal consist.

None of you are mentioning the Surfliner cab car.

Amtrak has a facility in Beech Grove right by Indianapolis so it’s possible they attached the locomotive and passenger car to the consist for until they got to Indianapolis. That’s my guess anyway
