Pharoah Sanders "You've Got To Have Freedom" (Live)

Музыка

Incredible live version of one of Pharoah's most well known tunes. There aren't enough superlatives to convey the level of musicianship and excitement on this one. Over 18 minutes of jazz bliss.Released on Theresa records in 1982. The stellar personnel is Pharoah Sanders(Sx), John Hicks (P), Walter Booker (Bs), Idris Muhammad (D). Smooth "jazz" fans nees not apply!

A young boy living in the ghetto, everyday he would cry without shedding any tears. Then one day he heard this playing and his spiritual man began to rise up High until he was free from his restrictions and nothing could hold me down any longer. This music was born from pain and crys out, freedom.

I've own this LP for 26 years, this version of freedom is simply spiritual, John Hicks on Piano is just so so awsome. I tottally agree, such energy make you wanna dance " Freeeeedoom 😃". It takes me back to the late eighties when I first heard it, just blew me away.

Yup, one of the most thrilling pedal to the metal full-on high-octane -- what ever you want to call it performances of all time. It helps if you have some context, and a pair of openminded ears. Like you've heard music before. I grew up with this one, when it came out, and it is as thrilling and crushingly spine tingling now as ever. I hope the same for y'all now and in 40 years and counting . . . :)

Hey Tod, I too saw him at Slugs in 1968 w/ Cecil McBee, Leon Thomas, Lonnie Liston Smith, Idris. Saw all sets and walked to the subway after with them. Creator has a master plan was awesome. Pharoah let some guy join on stage and let him play. Trane lives on in him. I thin Albert Ayler said Trane is the Father, Pharoah is the Son, and he is the Holy Ghost. So true.

With freedom comes responsibility. Freedom doesn't mean one can do anything when it affects others. Making screechy noises isn't really music (anyone can do it - even animals). It's been said this stuff cries out from pain. I maintain, it actually inflicts pain.
