Awesome story, how were your Alevels? I want to tread the same path as you but my Alevels are significantly below the medical standard requirement. I think this will hold me back. Can I expect my mpharm degree to carry me through my GEM application? It's a bit wishful thinking. Some universities acknowledge that students can be late academic bloomers which holds true in my case.

Aloyce Junior I’m not sure where this person is from. But many countries in Europe have free education. For example in Norway it doesn’t cost you any money to go to Uni. However most people still take loans because Norway is an expensive country. And students don’t have the best economy. It’s very very difficult to get in medicine school in Norway tho. Where most people just study outside of the country or go to private school to make their grades as high as possible.

Varies by country I think, I'm honestly not sure how people view it in the UK! Entry requirements are high for both and they're both really important members of the healthcare team

Same in my country i tkink the reason why is that in my country we don't have retail pharmacy you get to open your own pharmacy and be in contact with your community and make also more money that doctors some people are just driven by money

@@The_Scouts_Code Hi, What degree did you end up choosing if you don't mind me asking? I was hoping to do medicine this year but I got an offer for an MPharm degree in the best possible college I could. I could possibly still get a 2nd round offer in an hour but if I get an offer for biomedical science I won't be taking it. To try and answer your questions, I can't comment on the first one, I know that in Ireland the undergraduate degree you do plays no role in determining your eligibility for a postgraduate medicine degree, I think you can quite literally have an undergraduate degree in anything from civil engineering to astrophysics and it won't make a difference. I think pharmacy would possibly better prepare you for medical school in that its more patient oriented, whereas I would imagine biomedical science is more objective and sciency per se. And finally, you will undoubtedly have a much easier time finding more lucrative employment as a pharmacist than a biomedical scientist. With all that being said, I am aware that in Ireland no pharmacy courses offer transfers after first year to medicine, whereas biomedical science courses do. No clue how that works but anyhow. Hope you got on well!

You people are so lucky, being a pharmacist you have a lot of options abroad, but in India we donot have that facility, pharmacists are treated like cats and dogs.

Second year Pharmacy student here hoping to study medicine later on 🥺 I mean the content in pharmacy is so heavy and hard. Also we cover anatomy we have a whole unit! Maybe not as heavy as medic students for sure but deffo quite a lot!

I had the tiniest amount of anatomy in first year only. After that it was all pharmacology, pharmacotherapeutics and chemistry. Maybe it depends which pharmacy school you go to.

@@xXAnni3LuvsYhuXx That’s so weird mine is widely based on the different body systems, diseases/illnesses, treatments, drug interactions and mechanisms so far in year 2. Year 1 was basic chemistry, bio and law and ethics sort of stuff. In year 3 they will further deepen our knowledge on the different systems and illnesses and more drugs. Well medicine is still a dream for me yet and still have plenty of pharmacy to get through and graduate 😂 who knows by then there might be fast track courses from pharmacy to medicine.

You apply through UCAS using your pharmacy degree instead of A levels, but otherwise exactly the same. Take the UCAT/BMAT/GAMSAT depending on where you want to apply, and then follow the normal admission processes. I have a video hopefully coming tomorrow on everything you need to know about this!

Honestly, I didn't do that much prep work for the UKCAT. I think it's a very hard exam to revise for wit the way it's set up (plus, I sat it 3 times before I got in, so I had plenty of experience with it!). All I did was put a few hours aside for a couple of nights in the run up to my exam date, and ran through the practice questions - which is all I'd recommend for anyone, pharmacist or not . You just need to get used to the questions and what they actually want from you in terms of answers. Abstract reasoning was a major headache for me, it took me a few goes to see the patterns that they were after.

@@davelarkin2185 Hi Dave, great video! I just graduated from Liverpool John Moore's too. I am going to start hospital pre-reg soon in Liverpool and was thinking of applying to Warwick. I am just curious as to what work experience you did before applying. I know Warwick requires 70 hours of hands on care experience in two different settings. Do you think working as pre reg in hospital would be sufficient ( as I would cover multiple wards and specialties), I have worked as a HCA but that was quite a while back. I don't know if I can pick up alot of experience whilst doing pre reg and studying for pre registration exams on top of applying for GEM.

@@sharonjacob3291 Hi Sharon, Warwick's requirements for work experience/volunteering have changed since I applied, so I'm not actually sure whether you're pre-reg experience will be enough on its own. I think the best thing to do in this situation would be to get in touch with the medical school and see if they have any further guidance, they should have a generic information email address somewhere on their website.

It really depends on the year - my cohort (2015) had 4 who joined at different stages of their career (ranging from before pre-reg up to me with 4 years and a pre-reg under my belt), but other years might have none! I don't know if I'd say they respected pharmacists so much, I think the admissions team are very good at taking each candidate at face value - Warwick operate an MMI interview system, and from what I remember the interviewers didn't have a copy of your personal statement in front of them when they interviewed you, so they wouldn't have known I was a pharmacist unless I told them. That being said, it gave me lots of relevant things to talk about and experiences to draw on for each interview!

Hi there, just to be clear I'm not a doctor, am a medical student! In the UK it takes 4 years to retrain as a doctor no matter your background. There is some talk of specific 3 year courses being created for pharmacists and paramedics, but it's not clear if or when they will become available.
