RECORDED EARLIER: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. keynotes the Philippines-United States Business Forum co-hosted by the U.S.-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce during his Official Visit to Washington, D.C. on April 12, 2024.
For more than a hundred years, both countries have a very close and have long enjoyed strong and robust trade relations. In 2023, the U.S ranked as the Philippines’ 3rd major trading partner (out of 230), top export market (out of 230), 4th largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) and 5th import supplier (out of 230).
Last March, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo led a delegation of senior executives from 22 prominent U.S. businesses and non-government organizations (NGOs) on a first-of-its-kind Presidential Trade and Investment Mission (PTIM) to Manila that President Marcos Jr. described as a fulfillment of U.S. President Joseph Biden’s pledge when they first met at the White House in May 2023.
Given the Philippines’ significant momentum and gross domestic product (GDP) growth, solidifying foreign direct investments (FDIs) remain a crucial priority of the Marcos Administration.
The attendees include business executives from Google, Lockheed Martin, Adelphi Capital, I Squared Capital, I.M. Systems Group, Inc., Manulife, SC Johnson, Chevron and Fluor, amongst others.

One thing the government should do is to have an economic reform bills that is conducive to foreign investors..like for me is to creates a bill that will allow only a selected countries or like minded countries to have a 100% business ownership or allow them to buy a Land.

I hope PBBM always give more emphasis on the fact that His Administration has approved more than 400 power service contracts in just less than 2 years. One of the major reasons why investors are shying away feom the Philippines is high electricity costs and unstable power supply. High energy costs and unstable power supply results to higher production costs of goods. It also results in the higher cost of services. High costs of electricity also eats away a huge psrt of household income in the Philippines. With lower electricity costs, households will have more disposable income. Lower costs of electricity and stable supply will result to lower costs of other utilities like water and telecommunications, products and other services. It will result in less frequent demands for salary increases. The reforms and initiatives in the power/energy sector being undertaken under PBBM's Administration are actually the biggest game changers for the Philippines. PBBM should spend more time explaining this to foreign investors and to Filipinos.
