FYI if you've been graduated for 5+ years you don't have to have an academic reference for UCAS, they can both be professional. Both of mine were (I'm 28) and this was completely fine.

This has been such a helpful video, thank you so much! Like you, I’m leaving it to the last minute so I’m quite stressed 😅. It’s only because I haven’t decided between primary and secondary and I’m trying to get the work experience first but the secondary schools just aren’t replying 😭 I’m scared I’ll just have to make a decision before spending even a day in a secondary school x

hi, I am going to Durham for PGCE training too. Was wondering how did you deal with commuting from the school you were on the placement to the place you live? Or do you recommend renting flat around durham university or around the school?😆

So I lived with some undergrads near the centre. The uni asked me where I lived and so therefore placed me at a school that was nearer - I had a commute of about half an hour door to door using the bus.

I applied through the GOV UK website, not ucas, I got an offer for an interview at a Primary School the day AFTER I applied. No idea what questions they’re going to ask 😭😭

  • @Slidetotheleft

I only had to explain what I would teach as it was on zoom. I think it the interview had been in person I would have actually had to teach but it was a little different considering COVID!

I imagine the content of your interview will be pretty similar to what is in this video so that should help plan! I think I was giving around a week so it's definitely enough. Good luck!

@@Slidetotheleft thank you, they’ve asked me to do a presentation on a book I’d teach year 9 and I can’t seem to think of a book that would work as I haven’t read anything recently that would be suitable for them. Did you choose a book you knew well?

Ah, if I'm honest - I don't think I'm the person to ask about secondary PGCE! I was asked about more general areas of primary education. I'm really sorry I can't be more helpful!

I have an interview next week for primary education with qts and the university is asking me to bring an object, that simulates learning and present it. What would you suggest to take, please?

I had this too! I did the classic suitcase with items from a particular historical period and the children would guess what the person who owned the bag might be like/where they are going, etc. I would also suggest potentially using poppets for something maths related (times tables, prime numbers etc).

Hi, can I use two people from my university as references? And if I worked for at a company that is owned by a relative would it be possible to use them as a reference?

  • @Slidetotheleft

My professional reference wasn’t even officially ’professional’. As it was from a voluntary job I would recommend something similar to that. Just as long as it’s not a family member or friend - you should be good!
