I agree. I recently read a story as to which players are in the HOF who don't deserve to be and Namath was on the list. Based on this game alone and what he did for the AFL he belongs. He also threw for 4,000 yards in one season back then. That's one of those stats that becomes more incredible as time goes on when you realize how different the game was in the '60's and '70's. I saw Joe play a few times and I still think nobody could throw like him. And I'm a lifelong Giants fan!!!

@@MagSeven7 dude still till this day has amonv the worst career td/in ratio in a career with more int than tds and his decision making in the pocket was questionable at best... also terry bradshaw is also on the list of players who should nkt be in the HOF yes he has like 4 superbowl wins but thats more on the team than on him and the team being able too win in spite of him not because of him (still the onky qb to throw 4 interceptions in a superbowl and still win) haf one of the best if not the best defences of all time (the steel curtain defence)

@@richardgrace5043 It's not Namath's records that got him in, it's his impact on the NFL and what he did in that one game. It was a different game then, but, throwing for 4,000 yards in the 60's? I saw im play a few times. That was an era when the QB called their own plays too. So it was all on his shoulders

Bear Bryant said the best game he ever saw called was one that Joe called. He only threw three times in the entire game. Few people I have ever understood the game the way he did.

@@richardgrace5043 It was a different game back then . Most QBs had more INTs than TDs. But if I had one game to win, Joe would be my starting QB (and I'm not a Jets fan). Watch the AFL championship game when the Raiders edged the Jets. It was the bravest performance by a QB in league history.

I love how Peyton surprises Joe with his reads. Peyton has such an outstanding football mind. As a Colts fan, it gets frustrating to see Peyton get remembered more for his days in Denver instead of Indy. Don't forget us.

I went to Tennessee when Peyton was there. Got to see him play quite a few times. Grew up a cowboys fan but I didn't like Switzer and wasn't a Jones fan and I sort of disowned them after that. Followed Peyton through his career and he was absolutely spectacular as a Colt. Only teams shirt I ever purchased, but I had to follow him to the broncos. It was all about him and not about the broncos. Best regular season quarterback I've ever seen as far as consistency and absolutely the greatest football mind I have ever seen aside from a few coaches like Bill Walsh. Would absolutely love to see him coach but I can understand why he doesn't want to participate in that

@liversuccess1420 And all those teams had MUCH better defenses than Indy. That's my point. Rivers, Roethlisberger, Brady, only needed about 20 points to win games. Manning needed to score over 30. There was more pressure on him than these other Top Tier QBs. He was better and had better stats than all of them, but was held back by subpar defenses.

I got the chills watching Joe's eyes light up at seeing the footage and seeing these 2 break down film. As much as you hear, it's not the same game, it's still the same game.

Joe was the definition of cool - and still is!

Joe Namath was true field general & had one of the greatest arms in NFL history. His body (knees) let him down so he didn’t get to play in the pros nearly as much as he could have in those years. But he was a serious masterful QB who studied the game despite his partying image. Great man.

Crazy how these two played so far apart yet can still talk about the game so thoroughly. It’s beautiful.

And his drop back was something to behold. Dropping back 10 yards so fast enabled Namath to see the defense unfolding and let the receivers get downfield. That man changed football that night. And we are all the better for it.

The last AFL/NFL championship game was the following year, between the Chiefs and Vikings. The merger took place after the 1969 season. SB IV was played in January 1970 (1969 season.)

Yeah I'm a bit surprised Peyton made this mistake or is it his inner Bronco coming out taking a passive aggressive shot at the Chiefs.

Even today I still regard Super Bowl III as one of the greatest Super Bowls of all time.

Joe Namath is an NFL treasure. He was something different in those times.

I really don't simp for anyone, but for the Mannings, I'll have to make a hard exception. Archie, Payton, and Eli ... the amount of football that runs through those veins. LOVE Omaha Productions. Keep it coming.

Joe has had his moments, but when he was on, he was on. First QB to throw 4,000 yards in a (14 game) season.

I became a Bronco fan in 1992. I was not a huge Elway fan (actually met him a couple times at Cherry Hills CC), but what a great ending for him. To see Peyton do this was amazing. If you don't like Peyton as a football player? YOU have issues.

I totally agree. I am 65 and have watched Football most of my Life. Seen a few Players in those Days, but Broadway Joe and Peyton. Are truly the rare exceptions that changed the Game of Football. No doubt about it.

Joe's arm speed when throwing was so quick, that you could hear it cut the air!

Known for the quickest release ever, until Marino showed up. Very comparable.

Namath really was fundamental in creating the importance of the Super Bowl. After all its an AFL named Super Bowl by Lamar Hunt. Peyton can speak in these videos as a peer and it really enhances the conversations.

Those kind of games needed to happen to make the league better. The rise of the AFL made the NFL the great league that it is today. I love a good underdog story.

My dad just moved us to Miami back in 1966 and of course a Dolphin fan . But a AFL fan and was great seeing the Jets win . Sure loved football back then , and being 12 yrs old , football was great .

Joe is one of the many Pittsburgh Legends.

It should be noted that Joe Namath threw for over 4,000 yards in the 1960s when they only played 14 games. This was a record up until 1979 when the Chargers beat it in a 16 game season. Namath was no slouch. 2/10/24, 10:15 p.m.

Super bowl 3 wasn't the last championship game to be played between the AFL and NFL. Super bowl 4 between the Chiefs and the Vikings was. The merger wasn't final until 1970. This was the championship game from the '68 season.

this was a retro look but peope don't understand the swagger and how big joe namath actually was - being in nyc helped, plus the audacity to predict a win - it all came together for him and the jets that year - this clip lacked some of the music and production of traditional nfl films but still delivered by wheeling joe out and also the old film as well - minus the music. people do not understand how big and fast nfl players are is what i will leave off with - it is even more true today

Doesn't this one need to be about 2 hours long? The Colts brought 7 rushers. You don't see that any more. I had no idea they blitzed that much. I remember being pissed the Colts lost. I was a staunch NFL kid at the age of 12.... I would give up my front seat in hades to look at that game film. The Colts did not play well and Joe diced 'em up!

The true reason the Colts lost was the awful, awful play they received at QB and on special teams. Multiple red zone failures -- an interception, a missed chip shot field goal, another field goal missed, an interception from Unitas. One of those is hard to overcome, but they committed multiple costly errors. And the Jets took advantage, to their credit.

WRONG STAT at the 4:00 mark. Ron Jaworski attempted 38 passes in SUPER BOWL XV. That was before Joe Montanna in Super Bowl XIX.

Weeb Ewbank won titles with both the Colts and Jets. Paul Brown CREATED two pro teams, the Browns and Bengals, and won 7 titles with the Browns. Per his Wikipedia article: "He was the first coach to use game film to scout opponents, hire a full-time staff of assistants, and test players on their knowledge of a playbook. He invented the modern face mask, the practice squad and the draw play. He also played a role in breaking professional football's color barrier, bringing the first African-Americans to play pro football in the modern era onto his teams." Shula played for Brown and wouldn't have been much of anything without him. Same for Chuck Noll.
