    This is one thing I never quite got, How did Voldemort curse something as abstract as a teaching position? And if that is that easy, why didn't he curse the position of headmaster, to get Dumbledore harmed or fired. If Dumbledore is more powerful than Voldemort, then why could he not reverse the curse. For all the explaining that Rowling did, past and present, some things she just kept annoyingly vague. Same thing with the Goblet of Fire. What would stop Dumbledore to declare Harry's participation in the Trimagical Tournament null and void? They say that Harry entered a binding contract but what are the consequences for violating the contract and how does the Goblet check if Harry entered the Tournament. And since Harry technically didn't enter by himself, can the contract even be considered binding? This is something J.K. Rowling should explain. Not how wizards pooped before indoor plumbing was invented.

  • @OmegaVestor

    @OmegaVestor

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@wjzav1971 I think that's why they went with "seems". Also because even the characters are not sure whether or not the position is truly cursed. Dumbledore makes the conclusion that, since the "curse" started after Voldemort was denied the job, the two events are likely related. But, there also appears to be a number of loopholes, such as (as is mentioned in the first book) one teacher was able to serve as the DAtDA teacher off and on for several decades, despite the "curse." For your second point: a Binding Magical Construct is defined elsewhere in the books, and I'm fairly sure that it is stated, outright, that NOT participating results in death. Lastly, Barty Jr. explains that it took a significant work to convince the cup that he was: a) not too old, b) Harry, and c) that Harry was not too young. The plan COULD have been undone by this act, but sentient magical items are well-known for their flaws in-universe. It's actually astonishing the wizarding world depends on them as much as they do, given that magical items have enormous biases and blindspots. Lastly-lastly, since a Binding Magical Contract is more-or-less the same as an Unbreakable Vow, it stands to reason that the two are a dangerous kind of magic, one that it is much easier to be whammied by, than loophole out of.

    Also, there are theories that they started over at some point during the Time War. Colin Baker and Christopher Eccleston's Doctors both claim to be 900, but the Time War is said to occur over a period of 500 years (but of course time travel is involved, so The Doctor may have relived some of that twice). Of course, until contradicted, "The Timeless Children" throws all of that guess work out the window.

    Umm, actually, as stated by stephen moffat in 2010, the doctor has no idea how old they are, and simply keeps on lying, even from the start. The 900 years of Christopher Eccleston is a guess by his part, as during the timewar the doctor was subject to multiple agings and de-agings,. This is also confirmed by the fact that at the time of their first regeneration (from 1st to second) was roungly around 900 years as well (as noted in the licensed article "the phoenix in the TARDIS") There is also the philosophical question as to whether or not the 4,5 billion years in "heaven sent" counts towards their age. Which could be argued, as while they doesn't remember each cycle and their body doesn't age, neither does "ME", but she is still counted as being fucking old, which means that neither memories, nor physical appearance can be the classification of age. Rather the time spent in the universe, changing and influencing it, even if it is just chipping the mountain with you beak.

    13:16 Um actually the name of the ship from Firefly is "Serenity" not "The Serenity." Kaylee discuses this point with an Alliance officer in one of the episodes.

    Thomas Zhang so the sentence where he says the ship’s name is not a sentence?

    Um, Actually, very few ships have the word THE at the start of their names. The naming convention is to name without a starting THE, but add THE to the front of the name of the ship when referring to her, because she's "The only ship with that name". It's the same for "The Battlestar Gallactica", "The Enterprise", "The Andromeda", etc. There are some exemptions, like Moya from Farscape, where the ship was a living being and would never use THE in any circumstances with Moya. (That gets into "The Todd" situation, where the person refers to themselves in the third person." So, Captain Mal's ship would be named Serenity, but you would often call it the Serenity, as you do with MOST ships.

    Thomas Zhang but the sentence in which he used it required it. So what’s the problem?

    Because it feels in the spirit of this type of game, I would like to point out that I got the GoT houses and phrases sorted in about 20 seconds and I only watched about two and a half seasons of the show.
