유명한 식물학자인 ‘뛰레 Thuret’가 이곳의 아름다운 소나무 숲의 풍경과 폐허가 된 성곽도시의 소박한 아름다움에 매혹되어 1865년 이곳에 정착을 하고, 꽃을 사랑하는 그의 열정 덕분에 앙티브 도시는 오늘날 세계 제일의 ‘장미의 도시‘로 각광을 받게 되었다. 그 이후, 파리 ‘오페라 하우스‘를 설계한 ‘샤를 가르니에 Charles Garnier’가 네덜란드 백만장자의 부탁으로 이곳에 호화 빌라를 설계하면서, 고급 휴양지로 탈바꿈하기 시작한다.

‘피카소’는 이 작은 앙티브 마을의 정취가 맘에 들었고, 바다가 내려다보이는 고성에서 그의 작품활동을 지속할 수 있었던 것이다.
반바지의 포켓에 아뜰리에 열쇠를 넣고 같은 해 12월까지 이곳에서 작품활동을 계속하면서, 이곳에서 그린 그림들을 기증함으로 그대로 이곳의 소장품이 되었다. ‘피카소’는 이곳을 떠난 이후에도 가끔 찾아오곤 하였는데, 어느 날 박물관 관장을 만난 자리에서 ‘그리말디 미술관 Musée Grimaldi’이라 불리던 이곳을 자신의 이름을 넣어 ‘피카소 미술관’으로 고칠 것을 제안하였고, 1966년부터 공식적으로 ‘피카소 미술관’으로 불리기 시작한 것이다.
아름다운 풍광을 자랑하는 ‘피카소 미술관’은 매년 10만명의 관람객을 끌어 모으며 ‘꼬 따쥐흐‘ 지방의 가장 매혹적인 미술관이다. 20세기의 작품을 수집하기 시작한 ‘도흐 드 라 수쉐흐 Dor de la Souchère’에 의하여, 상상의 인물을 표현한 ‘미로 Miro’의 작품을 비롯하여 ‘에른스트 Ernst’, ‘피카비아 Picabi’, ‘끌렝 Klein’, 쓰레기를 모아서 전시하는 ‘아르망 Arman’, ‘세자르 Cesar’의 작품들이 전시되고 있다.
