Trim : Cashmere
Year: 1997

Hey Guys, DVF Automotive for another video, today i took another car from my work and this is a Peugeot 306 with the 1.8 16V 112bhp, in this video i do the first test drive to see if the car runs good and if everything works properly.
This car is very nice, cheap to buy, to run and to insure. , indicators problem that only turn as constant lights and not flashing as normal.

I had a 306 sedan 1.4. I sold it functionable with 195.000 Kilometres and little faults (Rear seats couldnt be folded anymore and the inner door opener was loose). Even tho the car was very reliable :)

Despite the very faulty electronics shown in this video, it's actually a very reliable car (far more reliable than its successor, the 307, thankfully they drasticallty improved its reliability with the facelifted version). I have one, and everything works fine, plus it's both really comfy a pleasant to drive. However, the gearbox can be a little rough when it's cold outside, also the car is not very roomy, and the glovebox is very small (it's more or less the same size as most modern PSA cars released in the UK).

How is the 306 on a long drive?

  • @netako

@@GECKOZFTW It's noisy inside since the car barely has sound deadening materials thanks to its outdated bodywork (the cas was built from 1993 to 2001, 2002 for the SW model) which is even worse if you have pre-HDi or 8v gasoline engines (the HDi ones a lot quieter than both the non-HDi and gasoline engines combined tho), leg room is fine if the person in front of you is not extremely tall (I'm 5 foot 9/175 cm tall myself and it's actually OK), head room is pretty limited, and the trunk is extremely small by today's standards (the trunk on the SW model is extremely huge and very usable however), otherwise the car itself is actually really comfortable, the front seats are very comfy (even the ones on the lowest trim level, the seats on the middle and high trim levels are much wider and even more comfy), the back seats are not firm at all and, the engines are very capable for the most part (especially the HDi and 16v gasoline ones, just avoid the small ones which are very slow) and the car itself, while comfy, is actually really fun to drive (that thing literally weighs nothing, which is also a very good thing in terms of fuel consuption).

@@GECKOZFTW Absolutely, this car is very reliable, simple to repair, cheap to run, doesn't cost a ton of money to insure and its engines, aside for the 1.1 gasoline engine which is very underpowered and the 1.9D, while extremely reliable, is much more sluggish than both its turbo variant, the 1.9 TD and the HDi ones) are very capable, especially the 16v gasoline and HDi engines which are even more economical in terms of fuel consuption, and the 306 S16 is one of the best hot hatches from Peugeot. Just don't buy the models on the lowest trim levels (especially the pre-facelift models) which has little to no equipment as standard (some of them doesn't even have power steering), the middle and high trim levels are very generous (not to mention the special editions which are really good, most notably the Eden Park and Roland Garros ones), and it's even better on the facelifted models, also be careful with the rear axle, as the rear axle on some 306s are a bit too nervous on wet roads, although it's not really expensive to buy anyway.

This is a pretty poor example. :) I've had about 50 cars of different makes and models. Five were 306's. All of these did 200,000k +. None of them made these terrible suspension noises. Just a matter of maintenance. The one I have now, as a second car, a 2002 convertible with 211,000+ k: everything works fine, even the a/c and the electric convertible roof.

I had a 306 1.8 XR Auto Sedan, drove it from new for 300.000 km, phenomenal car. And in Peru there were many really bad roads. You don’t feel how fast it goes and has great stability when turning. I liked the Volvo V50, also the Mazda3 from 2011, but Peugeot was better despite being older model. Only grips, high fuel consumption in city, styling started looking outdated by 2010 and would have liked the 406 better.

It's definitely not rare in France and most European coutries though (except in the UK). I still see plenty of 306 in my small town. xD However the sedan version is pretty rare in France, since the sedan market is far less successful in France compared to other European countries like Spain.
