The Peugeot 3008 is now a fully-fledged SUV, and a remarkably good one at that. It's styling is superb, and the interior is beautiful and practical. Its clever i-Cockpit dashboard is a 12.3-inch screen that displays your speed, navigation, phone and audio information. And a four-wheel drive-aping Grip Control system enhances traction when needed.

    For the extra money you get a lot more performance, more sophisticated drive train and technological advancements. The quality of materials used is also greater. In the same sense Heinz beans taste nicer than ASDA smart price beans. You cannot compare the two, they are engineered and sold for a different demographic.

    NickLiang I get what you're trying to say. If you can afford the Heinz, go for it. But if you wanted to, you could get two cans of Asda beans for the same price, making it better value for money, meaning you'd compromise the quality, or would you...? Either way, it's the way you look at it and personally, I'd pick the 2008 and that would be if I couldn't afford an X3, or GLC, or Q3...

    Babylonian the reason French cars lose so much of their value is because of reputation. French cars where bad from 1999 until 2006 for Renault and until 2010 for Peugeot Citroen, no real quality issues since unlike VW cars

    Babylonian Already been proven. Peugeot came above every German manufacturer for reliability and customer satisfaction. Peugeot have been improving whilst Germans have massively declined in recent years. Its not an opinion either, it is objectively a indisputable fact.

In the same sense Heinz beans taste nicer than ASDA smart price beans. You cannot compare the two, they are engineered and sold for a different demographic. Anything that is more complicated and performs at a much higher level will naturally become less reliable. You cannot compare the two cars. In terms of performance and price range, they are directly competing with the Japanese and Korean manufacturers and they are not even close to building cars to their quality.

  • @williamtudor

    NickLiang Your comparison is ridiculous. There is no correlation between Heinz and asda smart price, and say Peugeot and VW who are on the same level. Lexus are clearly more upmarket than Peugeot, but VW? C'mon. The fact remains that Peugeot are making very reliable, stylish cars with a more upmarket feeling interior than rivals in the same segment. The scratchy plastics of VW, SEAT, Ford, Vauxhall et al just seem cheap, nasty and poorly built by comparison. I wonder why people are so butt hurt over Peugeot's obvious come back?

    pipsicle if your not able to adjust the steering wheel and seat to suit yourself, then you should not be allowed drive a car. it seems the most pointless and only argument Ive heard from the media, mainly cos their nit picking on a car thats won European car of the year whilst not having a German badge! the 308 also will be more reliable and has a world record for fuel efficiency in its class as does the 208. these are reasons why the 308 was top of the class in last years driver power survey too, not the golf, a3 or focus. I personally think its the best looking car in its class as well 3 years after its launch with probably the seat Leon in second. Cars like the focus are totally dated looking now.

  • @Pipsicle330

    @Pipsicle330

    I'm not the media. I can't see the dials in the 208 or 308 unless I put the steering wheel so low down that it's jammed on my legs. Awful design. My friend is much shorter and has the same problem. VAG would never sell cars with such huge flaws. If I was ever given one as a hire car I'd have to refuse to use it as I couldn't tell what speed I was doing. Shame, as I like Peugeot's but they sell 2 models that I couldn't own. In this day and age they shouldn't be alienating any customers!

  • @thedons4270

    @thedons4270

    pipsicle to be honest my wife can easily see the dials by adjusting both the seat and steering wheel and Ive no problem either. I seriously cant see how anyone could not do that and be able to see the dials and without having steering wheel jammed into your legs unless the seat back is pushed horizontal into the rear seats, that your driving the car lying down. And if thats suppose to be a major design flaw then they're after a doing great job on the car altogether. what I consider a major design flaw or decision is installing software to cheat emissions testing and then introducing a cheap fix that affects the performance of the engine and the value of the car, ala VW.

    Ethan Wong I think that was probably an exception rather than the norm, as I also have a 4 year old 508 and have never had one single issue with it. Nothing whatsoever. The 508 also topped German TUV used car index for best in class reliability ahead of the Honda Accord. The VW passat came last.

    I’ve rent one for 2 weeks in Corsica. It’s a GRRREEAAT car. It does extremely well on the little bumpy and curvy roads of Corsica. Did a bit of off road driving to get to some secretive well-hidden beaches and the lack of 4WD was not a problem at all. Compare to 3008 my every day Tiguan is dull and boring.

    Wow the production value of the video just went up! Great job! I'm curious if Peugeot will fit a hybrid drivetrain to the 3008 down the road. Rumor has it that the new 2008 will offer a hybrid drivetrain. Rumor also has it that it will used compressed air instead of a battery, but I will believe it when I see it.

    Test drove one today, 1.2 PureTech turbo petrol. Was amazed by the pull and that was with 3 people in the car. I'll be ordering one in May. My only worry is the reports from some owners of the infotainment screen giving issues, being non responsive etc, can any current owners attest to that? Also what KM return are you getting on a single tank with the 1.2 model. I'd imagine 400 to 450km being very much acceptable.

    My wife did the test so I can only really comment the passenger experience. The interior finish is very slick and modern compared to it's rivals. The digital dashboard is stunning and the model I tried had a mock carbon fibre like trim. The very small flat bottomed steering will be distinctly Marmite.

    I was really interested in this car until he mentioned the high bite point of the clutch, it really puts me off buying a Peugeot but I suppose that's more a personal issue. Might still see about a test drive as this looks like a cracking buy.

    I think this would have a chance here in the states considering how popular small SUVs are; this seems a nice one. Would have to be automatic though, and only the gas 1.6.

    Who the fuck in their right mind would pick a gutless petrol over a powerful diesel? Diesels are superior in EVERY SINGLE WAY in normal, non-sports cars. They even sound nicer than 4 cyl petrol engines.

    derbigpr500 yes definitely those 1.4tsi engines vw make and those 1.2 purtech engine peugeot make sounds absolutely shit. Although the PSA 1.6 and 2.0 BlueHDi's sound beautiful.

    Hey Carbuyer, how the fudge do you obscure the dials of the 208 with your positioning? Are you 5ft2? I am 6ft0 and I get a clear perfect view of the dash in my 15' 208...

    James Batchelor Can't understand it. I drive left as I'm in Europe out of UK, but I guess that doesn't make any difference. The glove box in mine is indeed way bigger than yours due to the fuse thing. The dials I can't picture it. I can even photograph and send it to you so that you can see it.

    People are moving back to petrol and I'm not convinced 1.2 turbo is enough. Its 10.8 seconds 0-60 is 2 seconds off its rivals which have a 1.4/5T. Add family in and it's not going to be enough. Peugeot do seem to have improved on reliability although this model has not been out that long

    Try that 1.2, you'll love it. 130hp doesn't tell the whole story. It delivers torque like a 150hp diesel.

    Ay least it looks like 10 years or more ahead of Jeep Compass in style and maybe practicality... Thing is will it keep itself in order, speciaslly the 1,2 puretech had some intake valve carbon buildup. That is a costly thing to handle. Anyhow, a real automatic with a proper torque converter is a big plus! And, the larger 2,0 liter diesels seem to have rather good reputation.
