I honestly cant remember how much it was dropped by now, been a couple of years, as for sourcing the gti parts, a local lad had a gti that had been smacked up the rear end, so i virtually had everything from engine to rear beam and the body kit. I think only thing left on the 106 from when i first brought it was just the shell and dash minus the wings. I think i put in about 6k including the respray, all parts, carbon stuff, bucket seats ect. Proberly cheaper to go buy a gti, but i brought it as a run around and the engine died and with all the bits and time on hand, one thing lead to another. Declared as a 1.6 on log book, although still showed up as 1.1 on insurance and tax. Ive seen the car on ebay latly, still looks fresh but with a gti interior now.

+David Farrow Hi David, Is it a big hassle to replace the standard-106 engine with the GTI engine? Or is it kind of plug-n-play?

Not plug and play get the engine loom ignition barrel keys and immobilzer from the same gti and it is a strait swap no hassle done it before and also engine mounts and get the ecu unlocked away you goo

Was this in Derbyshire? My mums mate had a Diablo red 106 gti that got smacked up the rear end, and he said a lad had the gti axle

That is impressive mate, well done, hats off to an amazing job! Fancy doing mine? Haha

The front arches are gti ones that had the holes for the kit. The rear arches, cut away some body work to make the rear arch round insted of being flat. I drew around the gti arch kit to get the right shape.

This video is amazing. I'm guessing you would keep the log book as it's former state (1.1) so insurance would still be cheap for a young lad, and he'd have an awesome quick car.

Cheers chaps, i placed the curved arch kit over the rear arch and drew round the bottom of the curved arch, i then cut away the unwanted metal from the arch, then tiger sealed the curved arch on, after a few days i pushed the metal arch into the back of the plastic arch and sealed it up so you wouldnt feel any sharpe edges, hope this helps.

The wheels are 15's. The car was brought as a run around. Then the 1.1 gave up. So decided to change the engine and one thing led to another. "Built not brought" the next stage was to get it supercharged at ecosse, but sold up due to circumstances at the time.

Mines the same colour, i cant find a quicksilver gti kit anywhere! and i would of kept the wheels white, but the car looks sexy!

can you tell me were did you get that GTI body kit from please iv been lokking for it everywhere and cant seem to find one and how much did you lower the pug by because that pug is amazing man good job :)

Could of done, but had no intension of building the gti, only brought it as a run around, with in a week the 1.1 lump gave up, and at the same time a local lad was breaking his gti, so brought the engine and it snow balled from there.

I personally would of left the exterior totally standard, no gti kit at all. Iv always been a big fan of the sleeper look. Great job though by the way.

@MathanSaralonde Mine is a 1.1 ax its a work car ex french electric company and has no seats in the back and i have taken away the spare tyre , i can get 170 km per hour out of it , very light at 800 kilos , had for 14 yrs pay 14 euros insurance , had a porsche boxster 2.7 before , the 106 you can use and abuse and it keeps on ticking

had a old style mini before and my parents bought that for me and after i lent it to my brother he broke the gear box and sold the whole car for 25 euros , this was 30 plus years ago

Hardly a "GTI Conversion" then though is it haha 🤷 But I know what you mean. Someone thinks they are next to a 1.1i Zest at the lights and then get blown away.

Hey buddy, I know its a tall order but could you email me a parts list needed for a engine swap and where to buy that and the body kit? I've been looking everywhere

how much shit did you have to change to put the gti engine in, and how much of its actually out of the gti? did you have to draw up some new mounts and get them cut or are they same size/ mountings?

The seats are Corbeau Forza chap. The conversion wasnt that hard, there was alot of loom splicing tho.
