Dusty, Pet Clark, Sandie Shaw and Cilla Black were THE female singers of the Beatles Brit Invasion years. NO ONE every replaced them...they were HUGE HUGE HUGE and all very different in style and sound. I was so grateful to be there to witness these fabulous and fantastic years, which were never to be duplicated and never will.

Petula's singing and spoken voice is just sooooooo IMPECCABLE. She as one of those fabulous voices that you could listen to for hours and hours and hours and hours......

Ms. Clark has had a very long, diverse and successful career -- registering terrific successes on record, on TV, in film, on stage, etc. So, her respect and admiration for Ms. Springfield is even more meaningful. To have that kind of respect from such an accomplished peer shows just how respected Ms. Springfield was within the industry, and it must be very gratifying to her; Kudos to Ms. Clark for her generosity.

The grace of Pet Clarke who was in all probability the ultimate "1960's It Girl" is wonderful.

First one I heard was I close my eyes and count to ten. Blew me away. Still my favourite.

That goes for me also Petula. It was a close run thing about who was the best singer between Petula or Dusty. However Petula at the last moment started to pull away from all of the others (Dusty,Sandie,Lulu,Cilla ect) and won the race outright by a country mile.

this was a great clip. I forgot Petula did an album in Memphis a year or two after Dusty. A fine singer in her own right. But Dusty...was Dusty.

Petula's theory for why Americans began to crave British music is at least partly right. The Beatles opened the door, but here in the States we hadn't gotten a chance to hear British groups before then. When the Beatles' popularity went sky high, the promoters suddenly saw a market for acts they hadn't given a "look in" previously. The groups were fresh and entertaining, and I'm very glad the British Invasion was such a success. Dusty was a significant talent that we might not have heard, else.

No one can ever compare to the magical voices of Dusty and Petula too bad Beyonce and any of today's fake singers .

The thing that gets to me about people who are public figures, they have personal lives. Their personal lives is that, PERSONAL and why in the hell do any of us need to know what their preference is. Its not important. What's important is their love for music and sharing themselves with us through music. People in the world are so FUCKED up dipping in their lives so deeply. In todays world its totally HORRIBLE.

I don't care what attraction Dusty had, Bi, Straight or Gay.Like anyone has a choice of their sexual attraction.To me in the past 2 days ive fallen in love with the woman.I always knew her voice was unique.But she was A real caring person too.I hear all her friends and people who knew her say she was a great selfless person , so giving of her time to her fans, with Autographs etc. Her live performance of "House is not a home with Burt Bacharach is the best i've ever heard.

At a time when it was both brave & taboo, she admitted she was "perfectly as capable of being swayed by a girl as by a boy". But she mentioned multiple times that she had had male lovers. Perhaps none well documented or widely know as Tanega or Carole Pope, but does that mean they didnt exist? I've no desire to know every person Dusty Springfield dealt with. She was human. Pet Clark reminded me .. when she and Dusty were being ogled at in their dressing room. Tom Jones complained because fans were looking over the toilet cubicle at him, one of them remarked that they'd never buy any of his records again. Okay, based on your other post you it appears you have an agenda. Don't you think a statement like "How foolish to take anyone's "word" that they were attracted heterosexually, especially back then" comes off as extremely pompous? What if she did have a male attraction as well? Is that a source of shame or something? You make it seem that way. I've no doubt the great majority of her relationships and interest were same sex, but like Dusty I've no interest in labeling and categorizing people.

I think Petula Clark was a much better singer than Dusty Springfield. She could sing it all from pop to Country tudisco to ballads but never strained whereas with Dusty you can hear straining her voice and in fact ended up losing her voice quite young. Petula still good for her age. BJ Thomas was great till the end... never lost his voice.

Dusty had a tortured life. Dusty is my hands down favorite singer of all times..im 70 years old. She was gay long before it was acceptable. she was ostracized for that back then.

Pet Clarke, like Dusty and the artists of their time were so talented. Today, they all sound the same, except for a very few. There is no real talent today as well as song writers. Music started heading downwards around about mid 80s. There were some good bands and artists that I could listen to, otherwise it was crap. That's just me though. When so called artists regurgitate others songs and do it badly, I think, hang your vocal cords up and get a job.

Pet Clark looked down her nose at the Beatles and Rock in England and has stated this back in the day.she just turns me off.Dusty on the other hand was way kool.
