I'm having a Petula revival in May 2024! I love all of her wonderful 60's hits!
I was born in 1958, now 65, this music takes me all the way back to the swinging 60's. Great times.

1957 for me and yes I remember shopping with my Mother in Leggetts department store for clothing and listening to this cheerful song or more appropriately “Downtown “.It was easy for a ten year old kid to be crushing on Petula Clark when she was so very enchanting to look upon and had such a lovely singing voice. They don’t make them like that anymore.Such wonderful memories.
It must of been amazing to grow up in the 60's with such amazing music!

Yes. I love 60s music the best. Just memorable and fun music, and the soundtrack to our young lives. Great memories.
This song brings back so many happy memories. I was born in 1958. I was a little girl the 1st time I heard her. Daddy had a 4-track player, then an eight track. He had Petula Clark's Greatest Hits. My sister & I would always ask for that tape to be played. I still remember every lyric to every song . I'm 64. That has to say what an impression she made on me. ☺️

I was born in 1964, but my big brother (RIP) was in 1958. The whole family loved her...except maybe my mom. When she appeared in a Herb Alpert special, getting all chummy with Herb...I think she wanted to kill her.

1956🙋, I watched Petula singing through the TV program during 70s. Love her singing very much, but I've got no money to buy her albums as a teenager.

Same in 1958! I love this song and Petula. At first, I came across this music on radio. When I was low-teens, I was very fond of midnight radio programm from 25:00 to 29:00. Before the new day programm starts at 5:00 a.m. the radio station played everyday this piano's "Don't sleeep in the subway." I loved this music from the bottom of my heart. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hqyum8SOZbCWfsY.html I happened to know Petula about ten years later from then.
Back then this was the kind of music we heard on the radio, and it was worth listening to.
Timeless loved this and petula ever since i was a boy, im 71yrs old now love the oldies
I was 8 when this came out and I still love it
I was born in 1965 think I was left in my pram in front of the radio as I know all the words to old 60s songs and this a particularly a lovely tune ❤
There will never be a singer this beautiful, charming, and original.

That song sure brings back happy memories!
The best singer
A very beautiful woman with a god given beautiful voice, Petula was perhaps one of the most Beautiful Pop singers of the 60s taking on not only her songs but those of others and simply making them her own.

Reminds me of my childhood in England i would give anything to go back to the 60s
I love everything about this woman 💕
I love how she sings of all things “city life”…Downtown, Subway! I was a very little girl who heard music, in some form, every day. Maybe her songs channeled me into the life I live today…living “downtown” in a big city, no car, taking the subway train everywhere.😊

One of my absolute favorite Female Artists of the 1960's ♥♥
Brilliant!
I remember when I was 8 years old. For my birthday All I wanted was her album of greatest hits. I loved her songs ❤
First song I ever loved was Downtown but this gets my vote nowadays. To be honest, I can't help loving all the 60s English chanteuses.
what a good time and beautiful woman and voice
This song brings back memories of my first visit to Blackpool as a 16 year old and at that time i thought i was in paradise. Radio Caroline were playing this song big time just of the coast.
Timeless!.. thank you from NZ 👍🎶🇳🇿
I had three favorite songs from this era: Don't Sleep in the Subway, by Petula; Single Girl, Sandy Posey; and California Nights, by Leslie Gore. I was 9--10, the happiest times!!!

Thank you so very much for your generation your songs, your talent, may God bless you more we mis you a lot Petula, your songs awakes me and bring me to this world.thank you so much.
For me Petula's best song out of some very stiff competition from her other songs
33 years later it was Mel C singing If that were me. Things hadn't changed
thank-you
Those were better times she’s great
Thank you mister Gumby for this link

So beautiful the one of my best in the sixties will play it always ❤🎉😢

definitely one one the best ever singers, remember this song on a holiday and Elvises wooden heart was also just out.
Petula Méga Star🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 😘💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕Petula
No one ever covered this hit, because they can't. Simple and cheesy, but Petula effortlessly accelerates her voice to impossible heights.

Such a great song and surprisingly mature and insightful--"it hurts to have your ego deflated." Great line, and then rather than think it through, the boyfriend she's addressing goes off to sulk by riding the subway for hours? After an argument? Wow, still spot on...
my fav song of the 60s i was born in the 80s
Polite, well-dressed people/audience glued to their seats, not moving at all, hahaha.. The Good Old Days :-)
The Song Is Real! 0_0
This should be played 24/7 on the LA metro.

I'd like to see a version of this song performed by Cardinal Richelieu
After going ‘Downtown’. don’t ‘Sleep in theDon’t stand in the pouring rain ‘
