I came here from Norwegians poking fun at themselves for some Norwegians speaking awful English. I thought it was gonna be horrible. But I can understand him and get what he's saying so I'm surprised at how decent this is. It's like if you go to Italy and a cafe owner is speaking to you and has an extremely thick accent. You may miss a word or two but it's comprehensible. Most English speakers can make out what he's saying perfectly fine! Please, his English is loads better than my non existent Norwegian 😂

I think us Norwegians hate it more because we can hear the norwegian way of talking in his pronunciation. It's likely easy to understand, but to us it sounds like a horrible mix of english and norwegian and basically hurts listening to.

@@elijahdemion5351 specifically Eastern Norway accent/Oslo dialect(østlandsdialekt lol) To be fair there are other Norwegian-English dialects out there that sounds just as.. interesting. But in general I just love the variety of international English accents

I believe the reason is partly due to him being famous, and it was in a time where the world was... well, less internet focused unlike today. His English is defiantly not bad, it's pretty good considering it's his second language and as a Norwegian myself I just find it funny because I KNOW the Norwegian words he says make sense (the context), but combined with English is sounds gibber-ish haha! I grew up with people loving to make fun of it, and in Norway it has a term ''Solberg english''. True story. My brother speaks with a heavy Norwegian accent too, because he don't really practice it, it's bound to happen with language you don't practice often enough.

Things I know the solberg brothers have said for real: Henning Solberg (I think): I had a stop in the start (meaning he chocked the car at stage launch). Petter (I think): The car went like a surfbrett! He meant it slid like a surf board but obviously couldn't remember the word or even noticed as he said "brett" with an english r to my recollection.

Yet some Norwegians are so good at laughing at minorities who can't speak proper Norwegian, or who struggle with their accents. At least this should make some of them understand that speaking in another language can be quite challenging, so hats off to the people who speak grammatically correct at least.
