I came here from Norwegians poking fun at themselves for some Norwegians speaking awful English. I thought it was gonna be horrible. But I can understand him and get what he's saying so I'm surprised at how decent this is. It's like if you go to Italy and a cafe owner is speaking to you and has an extremely thick accent. You may miss a word or two but it's comprehensible. Most English speakers can make out what he's saying perfectly fine! Please, his English is loads better than my non existent Norwegian 😂

I think us Norwegians hate it more because we can hear the norwegian way of talking in his pronunciation. It's likely easy to understand, but to us it sounds like a horrible mix of english and norwegian and basically hurts listening to.

  • @Lamapanty

I believe the reason is partly due to him being famous, and it was in a time where the world was... well, less internet focused unlike today. His English is defiantly not bad, it's pretty good considering it's his second language and as a Norwegian myself I just find it funny because I KNOW the Norwegian words he says make sense (the context), but combined with English is sounds gibber-ish haha! I grew up with people loving to make fun of it, and in Norway it has a term ''Solberg english''. True story. My brother speaks with a heavy Norwegian accent too, because he don't really practice it, it's bound to happen with language you don't practice often enough.

Things I know the solberg brothers have said for real: Henning Solberg (I think): I had a stop in the start (meaning he chocked the car at stage launch). Petter (I think): The car went like a surfbrett! He meant it slid like a surf board but obviously couldn't remember the word or even noticed as he said "brett" with an english r to my recollection.
