Excellent video. My Masport mower has the same B&S engine and every mower repair shop wanted to charge a shitload of cash to service it or told me to buy a new one. So I fixed it myself and I made sure I bought the parts online.

I have been held captive by a bloody redhead in Wisconsin for 18 chuffin years. The sound of a wonderful Leeds type voice has given me hope.... My springs are mega floppy! ok subscribed ! ... then off to ebay for some cheapo kit ! Ta muchly from Wisconsin via Guiseley...!!!

Thanks for showing the governer spring location. I recently acquired an old Craftsman pressure washer and the inner spring is missing. The governer is hunting , just like they would on the Fairbanks Morse 13K HP Diesels we had in the Navy. So I ordered an OEM spring today from Sears a parts direct. They were extremely helpful and suggested I search you tube to see where it goes.

Those are easy to fix

Brilliant as my mountfield empress wouldn't start and I had to change the diaphragm b ut unfortunately I ended up breaking my leg so couldn't finish the job off and had lost the springs so now I can get new governor springs and should be back running again. Thanks fella.

I've just purchased the exact same Mountfield off fleabay. Saw your video and decided to service the carb. I just knew something would happen.. as is usually the case with me... I broke the governor spring trying to install the carb back onto the hook!!! Replacement springs arrived today! Your vids are great!

Thank you very much for this excellent and most informative video. I watched it multiple times, replaced both governor springs (I had broken one trying to fix the revving up and down problem), and replaced the gasket and diaphragm per your instructions and other video on how to do that. And voila! My lawnmower is fixed and running better than ever before.

Pete Froud I did the very same thing myself on my first ever mower! In fact until the other day I didn't know my mum was filming me trying to get it running with no exhaust on lol. I'll try and find the footage lol

I recently acquired a non running sovereign mower. I followed your steps on the gasket and diaphram and it now runs. It does seem a bit smokey and does not seem to run at high enough revs though. And after a minute or some it starts hunting. Any suggestions?

Can the governor spring get too loose with age/metal fatigue - mine don’t seem to do anything???

hi i have a hayter hawk briggs it only has one spring is it possible it should only have one? the brackets on the carb are different from this one ie nowhere to put second spring ,,thanks rob

I bought a brand new not required Webb self propelled lawnmower, which surges constantly up and down, I have taken the carb off, cleaned jets, checked float, and it still surges, have you any idea what to look at next

Send it back or buy another carb. Retro restore channel did a video on a nearly new webb one and the head gasket needed replacing

Hi great video many thanks, I had a problem with fuel spurting out of my fuel cap so Ichanged the diaphragm and gasket and checked the governor springs are in the correct place, I changed the fuel cap for a new one also but I still get fuel spurting out of the fuel cap?? Any idea what might be wrong?

@@MowerMan Hi yes fuel spurts out of the holes in the top of the fuel cap, I put a brand new fuel cap on but it still does the same even after all the carb servicing, the cork gasket is present in the fuel cap also.

Right I finally got to the bottom of this today after lots of head scratching.... most annoyingly the air filter housing was stopping the governor actuator from opening and closing... so when it was removed the mechanism opened and closed on the springs just fine but when fitted it trapped the metal linkage... So I squeezed the linkage a bit flatter with some pliers and now the problem has disappeared!!!!!

What exactly does that lever that the springs are attached to do? Mine does sod all. It runs perfect but I assumed that was a choke.

Not much. Some models have a throttle cable attached but they don't do mucy

i know this is an old post but maybe someone can help me.. where you pull the carbi/tank off, the part of the carbi that slots onto the mower, inside is a black o ring and a white retainer... i cant bloody find one.. i dont know the actual name of them, its what seals the carbi outlet to the engine.. you have the primer bulb on one said, opposite side is the open part that pushes into the engine.. thats got the oring and white retainer inside.. what are they called eg?

392270448327 ebay. The white one is a retaining clip. Gardenhire spares will be able to help. Are you sure when you pulled the carb off it didn't stay on the inlet manifold pipe?

Were do you get your diaphragms from because they cost me a fiver

What is the optimal rpm setting? 2800-3200 rpm?

At about 5:00 you can see that the linkage relaxes when you loosen the tank bolt. It had been jammed underneath the air Filter flange.

That lever affects the engine speed. Nothing to do with a no fuel issue.

Hi. So what is the purpose of the governor spring ?. I cant see anyway of activating the governor spring?. Can we just throw it away
