Situated in present-day Jordan and hidden amidst nearly impenetrable mountains to the east of the valley connecting the Gulf of Aqaba and the Dead Sea, stands the ancient city of Petra. One of the world’s most visually stunning archaeological sites, Petra (meaning ‘the rock’ in Greek) is an abandoned necropolis of temples and tombs cut into towering cliffs of red, pink and orange sandstone.
Primarily known as a commercial and ceremonial center of the Nabataean culture during the centuries before and after the time of Christ, the region of Petra was inhabited in far greater antiquity. Archaeological excavations have revealed a rock shelter of the Upper Paleolithic period, dating to around 10,000 BC, and a Neolithic village from the 7th millennium BC. While evidence of habitation during the Chalcolithic and Bronze ages has not yet been found, the region of Petra was again occupied in the early Iron Age, around 1200 BC, by the Edomite culture of the Old Testament (Edom, meaning red, is the Biblical name for this region of the Middle East).

Amazing that all of that is out there, and yet only the one structure looks untouched by time and wear Although we live in an age of technology, visiting ancient sites reveals we've somehow taken a step backwards

Amazing and thank you for sharing. Half way through I tried to imagine what the first western explorers in the early 1800's to recently discover this experienced. How awestruck they must have been. Sadly this video has made more aware of how quickly the worlds population is growing. Sorry to say But I felt it has lost its mysticm with so many tourists wandering around.

Great video tour. Most people don't know that Petra is the original Mecca and the birthplace of Islam and its prophet. You did a great job capturing the original Kaba (the cube) in front of what they call Qasr al bint nowadays. Good job 👍

No, most of the temples are closed to tourists.

Alleen jammer de uitstalling niet op een ruimte gestald wordt het trekt waar het omgaat uit beeld, zeker mensen verdienen met hun handwerk ook aandacht maar dat kunnen zij misschien op het eind uitstallen en ook daar wat meer van laten zien zoals hun kleden enz maar het is wel slecht gesteld de dieren staan daar te lang in de zon hun verzorging kon beter ( aandacht ook hiervoor ) mijn dank 🙏
