I have both the Pura X and Pura Max. There are pros and cons to both. Pros of Pura X: It tracks how much litter you have left. The deodorizer sprays into the waste bin. There is a manual deodorizer spray button on it so you don't have to use the app if you don't want to. The elimination of waste into the waste bin is easier since it has that large square it empties into. And the opening is smaller (which could be a con for bigger cats) but for me it keeps mine from kicking litter everywhere. Cons of the Pura X: The litter drawer doesn't do a good job at telling you it's full. When you go to remove the waste it can be over filled and spill out onto the floor. So be vigilant. The waste bin is also not sealed hence the reason for the deodorizer. So sometimes there can be a bit of a smell if you don't use the Arm and Hammer baking soda deodorizer. If you put too much litter in it will give you an error telling you there is a cat in the box when there is not. The filter is also a bit harder to remove and clean than the Max. I personally fiddled with installing our filter for far too long today because of how tight of a fit it is. Pros of Pura Max: Much larger space. Very accessible especially for elderly cats. Easier to disassemble and clean. Separate waste drawer with more space and a lid. Which in my experience cuts down on odor. Also no more issues with poop falling out like with the X. No more cat in litter box error due to too much litter. The filter is much easier to remove and clean than the X because it is easier to grab and pull out. Same with installing it. Cons of Pura Max: It doesn't track your litter levels. It has a deodorizer in the box where the cats go so if your cats are sensitive this may be an issue. (Though you can set it to manual or get a model without it.) The poop chute isn't as effective at removing large pee cakes as the Pura X. Sometimes you need 2 or more cleaning cycles to get high amounts of waste. The poop chute is also harder to clean and access than just a hole in the bottom like with the X. As for the leaking issue that both boxes may have... I've had mine for about a week of heavy use and I have had no issues with leakage at all. But if you know your cat is a high pee-er I would be more cautious. Conclusion: Both models have their pros and cons and I personally enjoy both of them for different reasons. It makes my life a heck of a lot easier and my cats are quite happy. ALSO: In regards to the litter removal plastic for the filters.. They say it's for the Max only on the website but I've used it to dump litter out of my X just fine. Make sure you check your filter if it will fit if you have an X. Pro tip: If worried about your cat's health you can track which cat just used the bathroom OR the frequency of the bathroom and check up on them. Also you can use Pretty Litter/Genius Litter in these just fine. They don't clump but they absorb liquids super easily and keeps things smelling surprisingly well. Just check after your cat has peed to see the status of their health. 😊

I’ve had the Pura X for a year. Love it. Very low maintenance. Odor was an issue at first, so I just mix in some arm and hammer litter deodorizer and that pretty much fixed it.

Thanks for the clear review of both litterboxes, i just ordered the newer Pura max, now i can asl a friend to look after my cats knowing that in the week i am gone he has almost no work on the box !

Company is in China and has no US support/contact. Number on website goes to a multi-distribution warehouse in FL. All emails go to china. This explains why there is no physical address listed on the site. Just got all this from a warehouse worker. This explains why I am having so many issues getting a refund (two weeks now)...if you are thinking about buying this, please do not. The mat in the bottom can be cut by a cats claw and urine will leak down into the base...and the issues go on and on...again, find another product and avoid all the problems I am going through.

Nothing keeps my cats from the tree. They are pretty good with it. They only attack the tree when they are hyper. Mine would ve terrified of a self cleaning box! Great video.

Tyrion always eats the tree and throws up 🥲haha You should try one of these! Both my cats are pretty jumpy but they got used to it within a day :) because it's not loud and goes pretty slow

My Pura Max problem is urine found deposited at the top of the base unit. One more problem is while on cleaning cycle, it constantly stop for reason cat is using the toilet despite no cat inside it.

I was wondering if I could train my dog to use this. She is litterbox trained and currently uses pine pellets, but non clumping ones. She is a small mixed breed and she is currently 8lbs and will grow to 10-14lbs in maturity. I wonder if there is any size difference in cats and dogs when it comes to pounds.

Glad it works for you. We will never buy from them again. A part was bad when we first got it so they sent out a new one really fast but wrong part. They told us to keep it..thanks? So they sent a new one which took weeks. Again wrong part. Now we are confused. Well what did they send this time? A whole new unit. Yeah the part we needed didn't effect the machine from working. Well we thought it was by mistake yet.. every time we called we could only leave a message. We tried email you name it. Never once got back to us. So we gave that one away. We found the "scent's" in China. Yeah the same exact ones all in Chinese but we could get like 3 times as many for the same price. It works great but.. support of us was.. AWESOME? No.. you never handle take care of problems like that. It cost them not us.

I think you should get the pura max. I have the pura x and the worst downside is the smell from the waste bin since it is not sealed like the pura max.

I haven’t had any problems with smell with both, probably because I placed it near the balcony? Haha but I would also recommend the Pura max! Because the inside & waste bin are bigger so less work 😁 they will both get dirty after a while but it’s super easy to clean!

Just got one...had it a week and it has already malfunctioned...its a $500 paperweight. Looks like we are heading to our attorneys office to try and force them to take return...I honestly think they don't have the money to refund as I am getting a heck of a run-around.

I have pura X about a year, do you find the deodorizer for the max wets the litter? That’s a concern I have with upgrading. I’m interested but if it wets the clumping litter I may be using more litter than necessary if I upgrade

the deodorizer is a separate accessory, you don't need it if you are using good litter. just look for one that doesn't bundle the deodoriser and you can save some money as well.

I'm surprised the cats had no issues with only one litterbox for a year (I remember hearing you should always have one more than you have cats), but I guess if it removes the smell like that through the cleaning and air freshener I see how that would work. I think style wise the Pura X looks cuter, but Coco did look kinda squish in it 😄

Litter robots are different. Because they clean after every use, you’re ok to have 1 litter robot even if you have 2 cats.

we place multiple with litter boxes because theyre not constantly perfectly clean which increases the chances of cats avoiding it and going somewhere else. the litter robot on the other hand cleans the litter immediately so the cats have clean litter available at all times.

One of my kitty is scared of the pura Max 😖

I got the Pura X recently I was afraid my 18lb mainecoon wouldn't fit but thankfully he's just big enough to be comfortable in it. Wish I had seen the Max cause it was a bit cheaper as well. But I still love the X tho. Works really well.

I think New one still pretty small for Coco...he can't cover his popo :( I can see he is covering outside of the litter box. Maybe you need the bigger one for Coco XD

Strongly recommend not buying anything from this company. Had the Pura X. The infrared sensor failed but they refuse to fix it because it is past the 12 month warranty. They don't even offer a replacement part or have an option to fix it. They literally offered me a discount on buying a new one. Like why would I buy another >$500 litter box with known faults? Just have a read of the reviews, there are plenty of people with similar sensor failure issues. Buyer beware!!

By the way the mat is nothing to do with detecting cats, there are sensors in the opening for that. It’s purely for catching litter that comes out of the machine. I’ve had lots of issues with the Max, just for the X and urine leaks down through the sides. Both machines are really lacking in quality control.

Never buy from this brand. It is fraud. It took 4 months to ship, and they did not tell you until you miss the chance for dispute. Never never ever try this brand

Use centimeters and kilos too. You're on youtube, not a local tv. This review is useless to me
