PETERBOROUGH | 4K Narrated Walking Tour | Let's Walk 2022

Join me for a walk around the historic cathedral city of Peterborough, the largest settlement in Cambridgeshire today, and famed as one of Britain's largest 'New Towns'. Long before its recent decades of redevelopment, however, Peterborough has had centuries and centuries of illustrious history - having started out as the site of a small abbey.
On our walk around Peterborough, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including the Church of St. John the Baptist, Peterborough Guildhall, The Norman Gate, Peterborough Cathedral, the Bishops' Palace, Peterscourt, former Courthouse, Long Causeway, Queensgate Shopping Centre, Peterborough Almshouses, Cumbergate, Petebrorough Museum & Gallery, Peterborough Town Hall, Bridge Street, Rivergate Shopping Centre, Town Bridge, former Customs House and the River Nene.

Thanks. Yes, I "accidentally" ended up in Peterborough once and was blown away with the history. It doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

I grew up in Peterborough from 1956 born at Thorpe Hall. Saw build of queen's Gate, the market move to what was the cattlemarket and now the market today. Hereward centre built and so much change, it was a pleasure to grow up and go to school there in those days. If I did a project at school I always chose the history of the city.😅 Was lucky enough to join the girl guides and we held our meetings in the bishops Chambers above the archway at the side.. Also had the pleasure to get married jn St John's Church where my mum had also been a chorister. Happy days! But now for 45 years living g in Cheshire. Thanks for lovely informative video

I used to live in Peterborough, the city is far more historical and interesting than it is usually given credit for.

Hello! Thank you for this blast from the past! I was born and brought up here, but i left when i was 20 years old, back in 1982, Judging by your video, the place has changed beyond recognition!!! At the very end of the video, you show us the River Nene. What, may i ask, has happened to the old flour mill and it's surrounding factories, as there seems to be a fence obscuring the view, so are they demolishing that particular spot, or just regenerating it??? I would love to know, as when i was 17 years old, back in 1979, my friends and i used to row across to the flour mill's distinguished looking archway , in one of Ted Hammond's rowing boats and we'd be having a sly ciggy or two, thinking we would not be seen by either their parents or my late, very strict Italian father, should they/he be hovering around the area! LoL! I thank you very much once again, for showing us this loverly video! xxxxx

This video was definitely taken more than 6 months ago. My boyfriend lived in the building directly across you on bridge street on the other side of River Nene in 2020-2021. In this video it’s still under construction & not yet fully built 😂

In 2023 the buildings seen across the River Nene in your video will be called Fletton Quays and will house theTown Hall.

The building directly across from the old customs building is where my boyfriend lived in 2020. It’s an apartment building in Fletton Quays & we spent a great deal of lockdown during the pandemic there!
