Since its establishment in 1939, Peterbilt has been one of the leading manufacturers of high quality heavy goods vehicles in the USA. All Peterbilts are built to the same standards of quality, both inside and out. The highly adaptable 359 Conventional was designed especially for long distance hauling. The Peterbilt 359 “Bull Nose” is a typical American truck with a powerful engine and lots of chrome. Its focus on high performance trucks with low maintenance requirements and a long service life, qualities particularly evident in the 359 Conventional, allows Peterbilt to maintain its prominent position in the U.S. truck market.

Peterbilt Motors Company is an American truck manufacturer. Established in 1939 from the acquisition of Fageol Truck and Motor Company, Peterbilt specializes in the production of heavy-duty (Class 8) and medium-duty (Class 5-7) commercial vehicles. The namesake of company founder T.A. "Al" Peterman, Peterbilt has operated as part of PACCAR since 1958, operating alongside sister division Kenworth Truck Company (though serving as one of the longest-running marketplace rivalries in American truck manufacturing).
Peterbilt trucks are identified by a large red-oval brand emblem, in use since 1953.[1][2] The company also uses a "bird"-style hood ornament on conventional-cab trucks, in use since 1965.[3]
Headquartered in Denton, Texas, the company also manufactures trucks at PACCAR facilities in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, Canada and Mexicali, Mexico.
In the first third of the 20th century, transportation in the lumber industry remained time-consuming, as logs were primarily transported by steam tractors or horse teams. T.A. Peterman was a lumberman located in Tacoma, Washington seeking to modernize the transportation of logs, transporting them faster and more efficiently to lumber mills to manufacture plywood.[6] [7][8]
On a 1938 business trip in San Francisco, Peterman learned that Fageol Truck and Motor Company was to be sold.[10] Seeking an opportunity to expand into new vehicle production, he acquired Fageol from Sterling Motor Company for $50,000, receiving the 13.5-acre Fageol plant in Oakland, California, its tooling, and parts inventory; the purchase was completed in 1939.
In August 1960, the first Peterbilt trucks were assembled by the Newark, California, factor; production increased to 800 vehicles for 1960.[13] Coinciding with the introduction of the new factory, Peterbilt debuted a redesigned "Unilite" cab for its conventional trucks, distinguished by larger windows and a redesigned interior (including an all-new instrument panel).[17] In an organizational change, Pacific Car changed its ownership status of Peterbilt, converting it from a wholly-owned subsidiary to a division within the company, making it the sister company of marketplace rival Kenworth (a division since 1946).[18]
In 1965, Peterbilt introduced the Model 358, largely replacing the 351 (which remained in production). The first Peterbilt conventional with a tilting hood, the 288/358 replaced a fixed radiator (and grille shutters) with a grille surround attached to the aluminum hood (a fiberglass hood was added as an option in 1972[17]). Serving partially as a grab handle, the Peterbilt "bird" hood ornament made its debut (a feature remaining in current production nearly unchanged).[17]
In 1966, the company to expand its model line beyond highway tractors, reintroducing heavy-duty trucks as part of its model line. Above the Model 341, the Model 383 was a 6x6 truck primarily for off-road construction use.[17]
In 1967, Peterbilt introduced the Model 359 highway tractor. Similar in design to the 358, the 289/359 also used a tilting hood, but was fitted with a larger grille (to accommodate larger diesel engines).
In 1969, Peterbilt expanded its production capability, opening a facility in Madison, Tennessee (suburban Nashville).[12] Along with the ability to meet additional product demand, the location was chosen to serve customers closer to the East Coast.[19] As part of a revision to the cab design, the 282/352 COE adopted the name "Pacemaker"

Built this one about 14 years ago, my first full detail big rig. Lovely kit! Unfortunately it got damaged about nine years ago and I don't think I can resurrect it.

Reason there is some flash is because the kit is 40 years old in 2022. Released as kit 7410 in 1982.
Great job built the kit in the 80-90 the wire wheels are a custom accessory for the rear wheels master box do some figures drivers and passengers for trucks.
I really like the unboxing videos. Good insight to the details and complexity of the kit. This one is intriguing, not a kit I would have considered. But the variety of surfaces from sleeper interior to engine to cab exterior… the painting and weathering seems like a fun challenge with lots of work and possibilities.

Bill can you let me know the difficulty, if any assembling and hanging the turbo on this Cummins engine. I think Revell could have done a better job with the instruction sheet for this part of the kit. Having a heck of a time with mine. Putting it aside for awhile before I get mad enough to pitch it.
Sweet kit. Much better than the older Revell version I have. Love the Peterbilt 359 in any event, I'll make my kit work out though, in some way shape or form. Wish I waited to buy it though. This one would have been so much better. Thx Chris!

Chris I am wondering if you might know of a 25th scale semi kit that have the wide front tires like on a cement truck or fire truck ect. i am going to build a custom version of a truck out of this kit . The very first truck kit was the Peterbilt 359 by AMT (I did mine in sprayed Testors jade green metalflake).. This Revell version shows how far the molding art has come -- absolutely beautiful! Even the decals are outstanding. And that chromed diamond tread -- wow! Thanks for showing us, Chris.
Love your reviews! Only one critical comment on the kit, the headlights are from a 379. Old school AMT 359 are round headlights. Old 359 driver here, have to be accurate!

really cool, looks a lot nicer than the Revell 359 snap like kit, even though it still went together nicely, currently building the kenworth w900 which looks like a lesser detailed the the 359.. still having fun building them

This is the exactly the same kit I had 40 years ago, it was called Black magic. As you went through the unboxing, I looked at the instructions. The same kit but in black. I just picked one up in about 95%, for $60. I also bought 4 of these kits because I couldn’t find the black magic kit. So now I have 5 kits. The two option decal stripes are awesome. Unfortunately, the black magic decals forty years old and they will not be able to be used.
I thought that this and my old Revell 359 kit were the same, but mine doesn't have the opening doors, the frame is a once piece casting and it's got a Cat under the hood. I'd get this just for those beautiful decals, though!
Those spokes are just rear wheel inserts. It's a custom thing.

8:17 Nice bit about using screen material IRL vehicles behind the grill for protection.
I would strongly advise sanding off the dash details for the decals. Definitely on the center console.

Just a question... can you not sand off the raised areas and lay the decals over it, align it, and use microsol or the like to get it to mold to the raised areas? I've never tried this, just wondering. It would be really cool if this was possible.

@@acrowe2512 for some areas like the dashboard yes absolutely. For the center console there are some areas way too raised for the decals to settle on.

Reminds of a hat I used to have way back when, it had on it “ Old truckers never die, they just get a new Peter-bilt “! Course, a lot of fellars heard of that, that’s just the first thing I thought of when I heard Peterbilt.
thanks for the review.ove the model truck.but the biggest question is .does. it have rear axles in the kit.i don't like plastic axles for the rear .other wise the wheels won't stay on the semi truck.
how do you keep them from setting too fast so you have time to make adjustments?
I really enjoy watching your videos very detailed and informative I'm really hoping that you could help me. I have this model that I had purchased second hand and was informed that it was complete, I decided at a later date that I would start to build it and found out that I'm missing 2 important pieces! The hood and the cab. I was wondering if you could possibly have extra or know someone who might. I have contacted the company and was informed that the kit was no longer available and no parts. Lots of folks part out kits on Ebay, see if you can source them there. :)
The bicycle style wheels are an optional wheel insert for the tandem drive wheels. Hope this was helpful.

Howdy Pilgrim, I was wondering if you had built this Peterbilt kit yet?
How do you get your paints and glue to dry so fast to be able to put out two models a week

Paint and glue don't take nearly as long to dry as some of the 'experts' want you to think they do. I also don't sand and polish paint or all of that stuff so my builds move along very fast.
I just noticed it has a Kenworth grill on the box art.

@@dennisbisconti4583Your Welcome, it really is a very nice kit with tons of details and the extremely cheap price you can buy 1 from Hobby Lobby or Michael's is insane for how much model you are getting. I really wish more of the 60s, 70s, 80s big rig kits would come out with the amount of details that this kit has.

Sure you can build 42 kits a month! In the 70s and 80s I'd do 3 in an afternoon... Spray the parts trees 3 different colors each Let dry In the mid afternoon start building 10 pm all done lol
Its a nice kit .. But the molds are old .. Needs some work..alot
