Peterbilt 310 - Heil Formula 5000 Collecting Manual Yard Waste
Oh man, I don't even know where to start with this one! Nothing beats getting to catch a classic truck in action, and it doesn't get much more classic than this: a late '80s Peterbilt Model 310 paired up with a Heil Formula 5000! This living legend doesn't show her age one bit, seen here handling a heavy manual yard debris route like an absolute champ! Not only did this truck still look every bit as good as it would have 30-some years ago, but it still has that loud, rumbly classic garbage truck sound too! This is definitely one you'll want to turn up the audio for! No questions asked, this is absolutely one of my favorite trucks I've ever gotten to film. In fact, this entire road trip with Alan out to Lewiston, ID to track down Sunshine Disposal's fleet of working classics was undoubtedly one of the best times I've had in my many years here on KZread. This, among other awesome relics from Sunshine (more on that later), was like getting to step back in time and getting to once again see some of the trucks that first drew me into the world of garbage trucks back when I was a kid! I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did!

Awesome video! I really enjoyed this classic beast. The growl that she did was music to my ears. Like you said, this truck does not look like she's 30 years+ of age. Sunshine really does have some old, classic trucks. The sounds I heard from her was amazing! Love the body paint they used on this beast. Like the smoke coming out in some clips. Fantastic work Bryn!! Definitely one of the oldest trucks I've seen to date, and you're certainly correct, it held up real nicely over a couple decades! Never would've thought Sunshine had this! 6:43 i dont know why but that field looks nostalgic for some reason and i have never been anywhere near there but its probably because i used to watch tornado videos and movies and they would show scenes with fields like that

Why do you like garbage trucks so much?

Garbage Man, Garbage Collectors and Sanitation worker are all blanket titles for a coin that still has two sides. Driver and then you have the dying breed the man who rides on the back of the Rear Loader's and it's like no one ever gave a damn enough to actually come up with an official title for the side riders. I'm one of these side riders and I love the company that I work for but they've been calling us slinger's for years. It may just be me but I don't like that title because I feel it doesn't really capture the whole entirety of what we do. So I made it my mission to come up with a better title. I came up with Handler Description Garbage Truck Handlers are the men you see riding on the back of the trucks, emptying cans in residential areas. The job also includes Handling yard waste, recyclables & heavy bulk. The Handler ridrs on the back of the garbage truck and steps off when the truck stops. Handlers pickup yard waste, recyclables, bulk garbage, bags garbage, and lift and dump garbage cans into the back of the truck which is called the hopper. Handlers our exposed to a physical environment, which involves dirt, leachate/garbage juice, odors, noise, all aspects of weather, and other extremes throughout the entirety of the workday.
