i'm german, grew up watching schumacher with me dad every sunday. And then I became a Vettel fan and now I am a massive Verstappen fan, there is no brainer who is better and it's ok, i think Vettel himself would agree that Max is a special talent and one that doesnt come along often.

As a Seb fan, I don't care who says what, he in top 3 in terms of stats of all time, thats enough, people have opinion and they will continue to have, the more important thing is how much impact Seb had on F1 and worldwide, everyone speaks of him highly, whole grid respects him, one couldn't ask for more.

People who say that Seb is slow are factually wrong, Seb won multiple WDCs, went to Ferrari, was able to adapt to a totally different car, damn near won many more but lost due to the Merc domination, went to AM, was able to adapt and often got into the points in a lower midfield car.

@@OCRay1 Jeddah 2021 qualifying, Baku 2018 for example. When Max gets into the zone he's capable of greatness, but sometimes can have brain snaps, momentary loss of concentration or bad temper. Imola spin behind the safety car 2021, spin at Hungary while leading comfortably, think 2022, running wide second last turn Australia 2023 (he joked on radio expensive lawnmower). Also his attitude getting the better of him sometimes (ignoring team orders last year to let Checo through when the team wanted to secure drivers 1, 2 in the championship). Max has benefited from Checo moving over for him on multiple occasions, including Checo holding Hamilton up so much at Abu Dhabi 2021 which influenced Mercedes decision not to pit Hamilton, this would give Max a massive advantage he needed to win a world championship).

Vettel can be untouchable with a certain type of fast car whereas Max is untouchable at any fast car, that's the main difference. Just look at Max at 18 years old in Brazil overtaking that year champion Rosberg around the outside on the Senna-S corner, that move considering the fact that Rosberg beat Lewis that year and Max made him look like a rookie, says it all

I dont agree with that at all. Max Verstappen in 2021 was averaging around .4 tenths quicker than Perez. However at the beginning of the 2022 season he struggled alot with the understeery nature of the cars and Perez was able to basically match Verstappen. Then with upgrades and with the upgrades to make their car faster he again was averaging around the same gap as in 2021. Every great champion has had cars they struggled with.

He won a race on his first outing with the red bull at age 18. He was still a baby. He ran Daniel Ricciardo out of the team yes the same Ricciardo that ran Vettel out of the team. Hes massivaly talented. Record for most wins in a season by basically cruising the whole year.

@@Firemarioflower Vettel was a very analyzing driver. He didn’t have the instant understanding of the car, track and conditions that max has, but thru study and hard work he would slowly catch up in laptimes.

Comparing two drivers having different driving styles and saying one is better isn't completely justified. Peter Windsor has always been unappreciative of Vettel, never really giving him credit even if he didn't particularly like him. I'm a Vettel fan but I have no problem saying Hamilton is a greater F1 driver and leaves a greater legacy, that's just how it is.

It is justified. If you understand what he is saying, Vettel's driving style basically put a limit on him. As fast as Vettel is with his driving style, it is still inherently inferior to Verstappen's. That is why Vettel lost to Ricciardo and Leclerc in head-to-head as they have the same driving style to Verstappen. Strong back-end driving will always be slower than strong front-end driving, if everything else being equal.

@@ihsanjayadi88 that's true that a car with oversteer is always faster than a car with understeer. He only lost to Ricciardo because of the regulation changes, his lack of adaptability as he mastered exhaust routed through the diffusers giving him more stable rear end. He didn't lose to Leclerc though, Qualifying wise and pace wise he outscored him, but his DNFs and Leclerc's two wins make it seem like Vettel suffered against him.

Verstappen 2021, 2022. C'mon. 2022 Verstappen made NO mistakes. Monaco is the ONLY race you can say he wasn't on point with the car. Every other race he was winning or his car/team let him down(bahrain, aus, silverstone yuki debris, singapore fuel quali, brasil sliding all over the place with no grip) i honestly see him winning 20 races this year. Most experts are better at doing their thing than talking about it. I don't need to explain why I would know better than him, I just need to give you an example that explains why he simplified too much his idea before sharing it. I'm not saying that guy doesn't know his subject. Maybe there's a longer version of the video where he tells everything, making his explanation complete. But I'm rather mad at this short, who puts 70% of its time on an example, and almost none to the explanation. So he says that a shorter racing line is usually the better, right? Actually this would be true if the tires had unlimited grip, and the engine had unlimited power and torque. Since grip isn't unlimited, we have to take it into account. Wether or not your tires will stick to the tarmac depends mostly on the speed of your car, and the curve radius of your turn. They're linked in a way that if you want to maximize your speed, you need to maximize your curve radius, which usually translates in the famous line where drivers enter a turn on the exterior of the track, hit the apex on the inside and then go back to the exterior as they finish the turn. A shorter trajectory would have been to stay on the inside all along. His point stands if he's talking about overdriving, which is when a driver constantly loses grip by going too hard in a corner, then having to constantly readjust his steering to not lose the car.

Vettel has to also think about being on the throttle and always in low gear to make the back end really work And that's a crazy thing to achieve he had absolutely perfect control of those regs and let's not forget there was actually competition

I think people are forgetting how dominant Vettel was in 2013 with at least 2 other teams on the grid capable of race wins. Max in 2022 was very good of course, but ferrari was his only real challenge in terms of pace, but their strategy and reliability was as poor as its always been.

Let's put it this way: max only came through after Vettel threw in the towel with Ferrari in 2020. In 2018 we wouldn't have been even asking this question, and that was Verstappen's fourth season. In Vettel's first four years, with less races per season, he won two WCs and finished runner up in his second season, all with the most competitive grid of drivers of all time. Currently Max has no competition, but when he did, he lost to Riccardo and was otherwise busy running into the other drivers - Raikkonen at least twice,Riccardo at least twice, Vettel (who was competing for the championship) at least twice, Hamilton...

Vettel and stroll were often quite close. I think Lance has an edge over Vettel in h2h race finishes. Look at what's happening this year between Alonso and Stroll. Easy conclussion.

Verstappen now may be one of the most complete F1 drivers ever.

Windsor would never admit the same about Verstappen versus Hamilton. Besides, George Russell has already proven that Russell is the better driver, much less Verstappen.

Leclerc is very likely the best qualifying driver on the grid. But over a race distance, across an entire season, Leclerc hasn’t shown that he’s at the level of Max yet. There’s not one reputable expert opinion saying that Leclerc’s the better driver. Team principal ratings also put Max on top or 2nd to Lewis every single year since 2016. He scored 4th in his debut year, vs 6th for Charles’ debut.

@@emilekaram6094 True, but only slightly. 68 points vs 48 with both cars getting irregular 7th-10th place finishes. Max's two 4th place finishes were massive outliers and were good for 24 points alone.

That is the most ludicrous reason ever. Vettel in that 2013 Red Bull towards the 2nd half of the season was like nothing we have ever seen from Max

Vettel is obviously a legend but you’re kidding yourself if you think he’s better then Max. Stroll was beating him sometimes in the same car and look what Alonso is doing to Stroll lol.

What he said doesn’t make sense. He’s saying that vettel used a more v shaped line which needed a strong rear end to handle the hard rotation mid corner, this is correct. However he then goes on to say otherwise he would lose time to understeer. Understeer is the front end loosing grip not the rear end, he must’ve meant oversteer I guess? But then he goes on to say max has a totally different approach, this is not true max also drives more of a v shaped line. He then states max would have a shorter line around the track than Perez(who drives more of a geometric line) which is indicative of a more v shaped line. So many contradictions it seems he hasn’t the faintest clue what he’s talking about…

I love how all the RB fans were screaming and crying for years because Merc had a faster car. Now RB have the faster car they're all silent. Hypocrisy at its finest.

I love Seb, but he was never a top tier talent for me. Even with what happened at Monza 2008 or the 4 world titles. Max has exactly the same talent that has not been seen since Senna. He was that great

Tbh we cant fairly compare seb and max yet because unlike max. seb showed his every thing he can do but max not yet. And for max fans saying 2022: max had no challanget at all. ferrari clowns being clowns While seb he just sends it in 2013. I dont hate max but comparing both now would be unfair. we have to wait to see max true talent under all senarios.

Why does nobody in F1 commentary give this kind of analysis?

He is kinda right ,i love Vettel but look how Hamilton put the pressure on hin and beat him!

Verstappen is the greatest talent in F1. Peak is higher. But Vettel had 4 in a row while wildfire was on his way. Vettel is better till Verstappen gets his 4th.

Both are great but vettel in my opinion is the best

Not really. LeClerc is way better than both. He humiliated Seb in 2020 and continues to impress. He is fast in even the worst of cars. As Windsor correctly points out, Sebastian needs a specific set-up.

Lol Vettel fought loads of world champions from 2010-2013 to get his 4 wdc ....and the 2012 is the season where the whole field was closer in terms of speed. Renault, Mercedes , McLaren, Ferrari and redbull ....all were competing for wins. Unlike the 2022-2023 seasons where redbull dominance is shown by the car made by newey ...so max wouldn't have to work hard for wdc.

Ferrari wasn’t competing for wins in 2012, Alonso was. The RB was still clear of everyone else, just like McLaren, but they’re were both unreliable. The field was close because Alonso made it close, the rest was just the same as RB and Mercedes in 2021, clear off the rest

I don't think drivers have primes. Except for Kimi Raikkonen maybe lol. Most drivers are still as fast and get better over the years.

Vettel had a good junior career and really shined at Toro Rosso though, you can't just say the guy is a pure construct, he's also one of the reasons RB was so successful.

honestly i think its probably the contrary... RB is a very uncompromising team, from newey, to horner, to helmut, to the mechanics to race engineers... and by extension a driver who's uncompromisingly playing his part as well fits in perfectly. Building a team around '......' , and building a car for ' .... ' is just confusing the matter as opposed to just striving to 'be the best team' and having 'the best car' period. there are also 2 teams within the team so how do you build a team around one driver really?

RB is a cutthroat team. they dont adapt the car or their methods to make a driver more comfortable when they struggle... theyre not babysitters, the car is quick, drive it quickly.... Some driver are actually comfortable in such an environment, like max.. his ability is inherent, his confidence is inherent. you can put that guy in any team any car, any teammate and he will have selfbelieve. ricciardo is an old story.. but max was outpacing him from the start.. how is that possible when back then 'the team was build around' ricciardo? if thats what rb always does why did max never have a problem being just as (or more) quick as ric?

@@dco1019 😂 ok. The team was build around latifi 😂. But again max is really good but we would never see Lewis vs Max same car, Russell vs max same car, Norris vs max , Leclerc vs max. Not hurt your feelings the 2021 championship was a gift from the FIA. He drove dirty and crashed into Lewis in many occasions to the point of taking himself out along with Lewis.
