Peter Sellers as Herr Schroeder

Фильм және анимация

Purely for educational purposes, for those of us who admire Sellers as a performer and just want to study his technique.
Isolated scenes of arguably the most successful character from "Soft Beds, Hard Battles" (Aka "Undercovers Hero" in the United States), which came out in 1974. Sellers as Herr Schroeder is a small gem - a mashup of Dr. Strangelove and Fred Kite - in an otherwise flat, unremarkable and disconnected Boulting Brothers farce.
Sellers, acting the quixotic primadonna as he did on "Casino Royale" was probably partly responsible for the disjointed structure of the film.
However there's some lovely subtle touches in Sellers' performance here, from him raising his glasses for closeup reading, the childish delight in the bed scene to the excited, raised shoulders when he receives word from the Führer. The limp and the heavy make-up around Schroeder's small eyes also go a long way for me, and the formal clicking of the heels even when no one of authority is there to see it. A delicious, officious, sinister Gestapo pantomime devil.

I'm a Peter Sellers fan and didn't know that this existed. He was so talented. My favorite is probably the outside scene in Lolita. He's known for comedy roles, but his serious roles are amazing. He really was a well rounded actor and took his work very serious. Love this guy. I'll have to give this a watch.

The sheer Brilliance of this Comedic Actor Peter Sellers was beyond question fm Herr Schroeder playing the role of A Gestapo Head to Dr.Strangelove, To Fu Manchu to An Indian actor in the Party or French Polce officer in a shot in the Dark or the entire Pink Panther series plus many more films, He was an absolute Genuis and to my mind the greatest comedic actor of all time

Ok, so you have seen the Pink Panther movies and The Party. There is so much that you should see, in that case. Try Dr. Strangelove, in which he simultaneously plays a reconstructed Nazi and the President of the United States. Also try The Magic Christian, which is a late sixties sendup of capitalism and social status. Finally, try Being There, which is arguably his best film.

"Never Let Go", Sellers plays a sadistic English thug. He was keen to play something other than comedy and the film reveals a dark side of Sellers that he relished. Unfortunately the public hated seeing him as a truly despicable character and he never veered from comedy again. Also "The Lady Killers" and "The Wrong Box".

Early war films showed the truth but as you say now 80 years on they are parodied as fools which they certainly weren’t. Louis De Funes portrayed them in La Grande Vadrouille And of course John Cleese with his funny talks and whatever you do dont mention the war
