Where are you from/are you from the States? 🇺🇸 AND, have you been able to make it to Germany since learning German? 🇩🇪(Well, I guess you never totally “learn it“, right? If you’re using it, you’re constantly improving in multiple areas… Reading, writing, new words, “slang“, etc.) I wish I had taken the time to learn a 2nd language! I know I still could, but “Free Time” seems to narrow as one gets “Old/Older”… 😬 🤷🏻‍♂️

Meine 10- jährige Tochter schwärmte mir gestern von einem Lied vor, welches ihr Musiklehrer gestern mit der Klasse im Unterricht gesungen hat . Sie hatte Gänsehaut beim Anhören, als sie den Song mir heute auf KZread vorspielte , fiel ich aus allen Wolken. Wir sangen gemeinsam den Song, den ich damals auch so liebte !!!! Schöner Kommentar & mega dass er den Kids diesen Song gezeigt hat. Meine Mutter hat mir viel Musik gezeigt zu die in der Disco getanzt wurde damals oder auch auf welchen Konzerten sie war. Hab davon einiges gehört und hab paar Favoriten die ich auch öfter gerne höre von 70er bis 95er ist da eig immer was bei. Wenn ich mal Kinder habe werde ich es sicher mal probieren & ihnen die Musik zeigen 😁

As much as I love the English version, when I first heard the B-side in German (many, many, many years ago), I loved it even more. So much so that I immediately ordered Fehler Im System and loved it even more than Failure in the System. I decided last year that I wanted to learn another language, and I chose German specifically because I want to be able to fully appreciate your songs (as well as others, such as Falco and Nina) in the original German.

Ich bin ja deutscher 😅🤷🏼‍♂️ und finde die englische Sprache, zumindest für Lieder/Songs viel harmonischer, aber irgendwie auch im allgemeinen viel schöner. Englisch ist eben nicht so hart und hat einfach einen besseren flow (da fängt es schon an, mir fällt nicht mal mehr das deutsche Gegenstück zu dem Wort ein 😅) Englisch dominiert mittlerweile die Welt, deshalb finde ich es krass, das englisch sprachige Menschen sagen sie finden den Song auf deutsch schöner. Hätte dies jetzt alles auf englisch schreiben können, aber so könnt ihr euch ja ein bisschen anstrengen. 🙂😉

Das Lied erinnert mich an die guten alten Zeiten der 1980er (bin selbst Jahrgang 1976), als die Welt noch in Ordnung war und man eine glückliche und unbeschwerte Kindheit hatte. Wenn ich dieses Lied höre, dann wünsche ich mir oft, ich könnte die Zeit einfach mal zurück drehen.

Wow, I hadn't heard this song for quite some time....I was a young 20 year old US soldier stationed in W Germany at a Pershing Missile unit in January 1982. I absolutely fell in love with Germany, it's people, language, culture, and ambiance. The time I spent there (3 years) was probably the best time of my life, and this song encapsulates my experiences while there and this song actually takes me back to the wonderful time I had there. THANK YOU Peter Schilling for crafting this beautiful song that has allowed me to go back in time!

Ich hab so Gänsehaut bekommen alle haben das Lied im Stadion mitgesungen und man hatte wieder etwas Nationalstolz es haben alle zusammengehalten es muss aufhören das dieses wunderbare Land und die Kultur zerstört wird

First time I heard this song, I fell in love with it. Then I heard the German version. I can't speak a word German, but something about this version is better than the English version. The 80's can never be replaced.

It's just a perfect use of words in German. That is why. In the verses the words are mostly short or kind of harshsounding what fits that Adventure atmosphere perfectly. In the refrain there is that contrast that gives you a sense of open wide space and flying without gravitiy. The words a longspoken. And the words themselves fit perfectly for this longpulled pronunciation. The German words seem to fit better for this.

Fänd's gut, wenn wir als Fans endlich mal unseren Jungs, egal was passiert, den Rücken stärken, also auch wenn es mal nicht so gut läuft! Wir haben so viel junges Fußballtalent am Start. Wirtz, Musiala, Havertz, ... wenn die mal richtig aufdrehen, dann hat der Gegner fertig! Und wir sollten unsere Jungs dabei unterstützen, tragen wir sie dorthin, egal was passiert!
