Oof, they SAVAGED this guy. At least, that's how the editing and all that makes it look. He comes in asking for 100k for 10%, then right away Duncan talks and the guy runs himself up to saying he'd be willing to part with as much as 20%, immediately moving the bar on the amount of equity the others are going to push for AND making it very obvious that he's extremely naive at negotiating with upper class people. When he talked about being willing to go up to 20, he very much seemed to me that he was just being honest and putting it out there, figuring he's just laying out the truth of the matter for everyone. But to them, he was showing his belly. That doesn't buy you commensurate honesty and fair-dealing from them. They just start sharpening their claws.

After reading the comments; I felt it would be logical to perhaps set the record straight on a few things as people seem to believe what they read on the BBC and via other unreliable sources. 1 - I could not complete the deal on camera due to the fact Rachel Elnaugh’s company (red letter days) went into administration in-between the filming and when it was broadcast. To be fair to her - she called me the Friday it happened and told me that it would be in that weekends papers and that she could not complete the deal with me. She apologised and that was that. 2 - Weeks later when I finally met with Theo (with my group company legal director) he offered me the £50K agreed on camera as an investment; but wanted the other £50K to be a loan. Yet he still wanted the full 30% equity. I mulled this over and even suggested that we offer Peter to come in and replace Rachel - that didn’t happen; although Peter did consider it. Soon after Peter and Theo jointly bought red letter days out of administration. 3 - The BBC called me virtually every day - wanting to know if I had completed the deal with Theo - and they stated that if I didn’t complete the deal - then they would not broadcast my pitch. During this time I was still working (part-time) as a wildlife film maker (mainly as an underwater cameraman) - and I was at a Wildlife Film Festival in Jackson Hole - Montana and the BBC called me to say that they were going to drop my pitch from the editing because I had not completed the deal. I called Theo and told him that I was still considering his offer and would make a decision when I returned from the UK. 4 - When I returned from the UK I had a meeting with my bank manager and applied for a £32K loan - a small firms business loan. This was approved within days and then I placed an order for 2 containers full of cubes (the best thing in the world to ship is a cube with no packaging) and you could get 19,200 of the large cubes in a 20ft container. At the time the $ to the £ was almost 2 to 1. They arrived the day after broadcast - literally outside my house! 5 - A few weeks later - after continuing to dodge calls from both the BBC and Theo - I went down to my local shop and saw that in the radio times that they were advertising the 2nd series of Dragons den and had programme 2 listed as ‘The Dragons fight over investing in an impossible puzzle’. When I got home from the shop - I called the BBC and Theo and told them that I could not go through with the deal and that it was not what we had agreed on camera. Theo respected my decision and wished me well and told me to keep in touch. The BBC guy was angry and pissed off with me; I cancelled my licence a few weeks later and have never paid the peado protectors and propaganda machine since. 6 - The next few years from the point of broadcast became a blur - and the company grew rapidly and won many awards. In 2007 one of my large UK retailer customers decided to place an order with one of my manufacturers - without my knowledge. I had already planned a second trip to China to visually inspect both of the factories I was using to manufacture my cube. The same manufacturer I discovered was using ‘child labour’ - to sonic weld and put the cubes together. When I witnessed this with my own eyes - I placed my final order with the factory and requested that my tools to make the cube were put into the container and shipped back to the UK. 7 - In 2008 I began to manufacture the cube in the UK working with a plastic injection moulding factory initially in Wiltshire and later in Plymouth. The Bedlam Cube became one of the very few Toys ‘made in the UK’ - and many corporate companies ordered cubes because of that. The Carbon Cube was made from 100% recycled plastic (and was black in colour) and was only available on the web and manufactured less than a mile away from where it was shipped directly to the customer. 8 - During this time the terraced student house next door to me was converted over the summer by a rouge landlord who had recently purchased it. He converted it from 5 Bedrooms on 2 floors; to 12 Bedrooms on 4 floors - he did so with no planning permission; no building control; no fire regs or HMO licence…and more. I investigated and passed on what I had found to Plymouth city council. They then did their own investigation (based on my evidence and info) and then inspected the property and fined the landlord over £4,000. It was at this stage I had discovered that none of the 50 properties he owned - paid any council tax - as they were all registered as Student Properties. They are also exempt from Business rates - even thou they are property assets of a business - bringing in £? The legislation doesn’t make any sense. Even less does the enforcement of Council tax - which are a complete fraud in their processes and the fact they hold their own pretend court hearings - with liability orders that do not exist as ‘physical pieces of paper’. 9 - Yes - I was made (unlawfully) bankrupt in 2012 for a £2,300 unpaid bill; - which at the time I could not pay. The Local Gov Ombudsman found 3 counts of mal-administration in my unlawful bankruptcy and after 3 years as an exempt student doing a law degree; I am about to apply to have it annulled. Once that is done; then I will be able to make an insurance claim against the council’s professional indemnity policy - which has a limit of £5M. There has been no court case (as yet) and I’m not suing anyone…despite the BBC headline and their story. 10 - Over the last decade I have been focused on making a difference and not making money. I have assisted many people with their mortgage, council tax and many other issues. I have prevented many people being jailed and from losing their homes; I even managed to get a grandmother out of prison 2 days before Christmas; via a HC emergency Judicial review. I have not paid my water bill for over a decade and in Feb 2018 - I took South West Water to court - and won; discharging an £8K bill and ensuring my costs were paid. In 2013 I proved in the HC; that there is no contract for a mortgage - meaning that my £1 a month payment was not a breach of the ‘agreement’. The bank doesn’t sign anything for your mortgage and they create the money from quantitive easing (fresh air). 11 - Yes I have now been handed the reigns of the family business - which for the last 5 years was run into the ground by an ex-employee - who decided to take our customer database with him. So if anyone needs any labels - www.turtonretail.co.uk 12 - In 2017 - I crowd funded over £1000 so that I could stand as an Independent Candidate in Plymouth. This was the snap election - brought by Teresa May and I made a snap decision to stand. With others in 2015 - we had set up a movement called ‘the No Party’- supporting all independent candidates in the UK - www.noparty.co 13 - I now also work as a non-practicing lawyer and private prosecutor and investigator - and on youtube and facebook - I am known as ‘The Public Detective’. 14 - At its peak - between the 2 toy companies I owned through my group; I employed 15 staff - ad a product range of over 30 products; supplied most major retailers (Argos is sale or return and they sold every cube they bought) was sold in over 40 countries and we won many awards. We were the first Toy Company in the UK to have a working app for the product and we were the only Plastic Puzzle made in the UK. Yes you can still buy the Bedlam Cube - mainly on ebay now. When the companies were wound up / dissolved etc - the only 2 bills not paid were a £35K overdraft and a £3K tax bill. 15 - I never lost any of my assets (including my house) in my unlawful bankruptcy as I had placed them in a private family trust - (over 3 years prior) - the beneficiary of the trust is my 11 year old daughter Scarlett Gaia.

Danny, I hope your daughter is getting well and will walk OK now. You made a mistake in not paying your Council Tax, from which most of your difficulties flowed of course. You had a lot to lose, and did so, by choosing the wrong route to publicise your view of the unfairness of the student exemption. There were many different means by which you could have sought to bring this to light and have an adult conversation about the fairness of government policy. I'm sure you see this now. It is oft said that you can't please all the people, all of the time, and this shows in making policy to cover 65 million people, which inevitably throws up much in the way of unforeseen consequences. I hope that the business can work for you again and I wish you well in rebuilding something better in future. Regards.

That was one of the most interesting back and forth with offers and the counter offers. Danny was spot on to decline the first offer of 40% and then Peter's totally greedy offer for 35% in all of the guys ideas which weren't even on the plate to begin with. I was very happy to see him decline those. I think Theo's first offer was the best one but danny decided to counter offer which was a risky but good call to make the dragons think. That slightly backfired when Theo decided to reconsider his original offer but in the end the offer he accepted was a good one.

He later turned down the deal and took a £100k bank loan instead. The business was thriving, employing lots of people, selling around the world and making millions in turnover. The business later collapsed when the Council brought bankruptcy proceedings against him for non-payment of council tax which he refused to pay in protest at landlords of student-occupied properties being exempt. He is now discharged from his bankruptcy and is free to be a company director again, and is planning to restart the business. He is also planning to sue the council for £5m in damages for loss of earnings.

That wasnt the reason per se. Just that was the last straw for him. He had a lot of problems with the corrupt nature of Council Tax already. Like many of us do.

Really surprised they are still showing Doug Richard in these videos after he was caught messing around with a 13-year-old and got away with! I wish I was kidding but I'm not, google his name and it is one of the first results. Shame.

The Dragons were all scammed. Unless this Daniel Bamping bought the rights to this puzzle, it isn't his to sell. I had an identical one made of light cubed plastic, when I was 10, same shapes, same puzzle. That was almost fifty years ago.

I don't think I've ever seen them this savage. Duncan asking how much more equity he would give was out of order. Should have told him to make an offer, specifying how much he wanted and what he could do to help and he would consider it. Doug trying the "take it or leave it before you hear any other offers" squeeze was nasty and then Theo revising his desired stake. Rachel was the only one to not treat the lad like a cat playing with a crippled mouse. It's a great product too, I remember getting one myself and it was really tough!
