Peter Murphy 1989 TV interview with Bauhaus vocalist
Музыка
Peter Murphy discusses vampires, fear, image and art. Includes live performance most likely from April 28, 1988 at RPM club Toronto, Canada. We aren't saying it IS from 1988, it could be earlier, but the VHS tape this clip came from is from 1989.

Peter Murphy is GORGEOUS and smart as hell to boot. "Commanding with charisma" is him to a tee.
His British accent's really dreamy
omg he was at his sexiest in the 80's, WHAT A FACE!
I saw Bauhaus in 1982 at Larry's Hideaway in Toronto. It was the best live concert I had ever seen. It still holds up to this day as one of the best...and I've seen a lot of concert! It was violent yet sexual. My boyfriend and I had a drink with Peter Murphy after the show. He was a total gentleman and a very different character than he was on stage.
Peter Murphy is my Lestat.
dude his voice sounds like bowie's and kinda like the young tim curry

I just love his smile

There is a criminal lack of live Peter Murphy audio/video from the late 80's/early 90's, while he was undoubtedly putting out his strongest solo material.
He's so...I just...oh my.
I believe he said "...subtle-like eroticism..." and wow. Peter talking about eroticism... leaves me almost speechless. He looks fantastic here and his hair is gorgeous.
He's an incredibly sophisticated guy, very cool :) That girl interviewing him, look at her at 1:00, she wants him so bad! Bauhaus were/are one of the finest and inventive bands ever, it's so uncool that I was born so late! That said, I've made it my mission to find everything they've ever produced - the new 'deluxe editions' of their studio albums are sublime, but my favourite has to be the 'live in New York' from a few years ago :D
An absolute heart throb.
She asks him, "Blah, blah, blah"... Who cares...let's just stare at his beauty.

Love Peter Murphy, beauty and brains...hard to beat!!!!!
Murphy would have made a MUCH better Lestat than Tom Cruise. I felt it was a terrible mistake in casting to give the role to Cruise. I couldn't even make it through the movie he was such a mismatch. Cruise is an ok actor, but in a white bread, safe kind of way. The only creepy thing about Cruise is his devotion to the cult he's in, Scientology.

Literally what? He was amazing as Lestat, even though he is bat shit crazy, you cannot deny he was amazing in the movie. He never acted that well in any other movie lol.

Interesting interview. love how the reporter is entranced :)
He would have been great as Lestat. Anne Rice actually had Bowie in mind. But he had already done the Hunger and wasn't interested in more vampire movies.

Peter is so gorgeous in this vid!!!!
I agree. I think is obvious Peter is influenced not only by the Ziggy era, but by the Station To Station, long before Bauhaus even existed. The Thin White Duke character is deep inside Peter's heart.
smart guy. decades before the current craze they explored the ideas behind vampirism in a very creative way
BAUHAUS 1919, just found out about the whole bauhaus school and then this band and love this whole bauhaus
Funny, I worked at a club in Cincinnati called Bogart's in about 5 years after this video was taken, in 1994 he was hardly playing to anyone. In fact a young girl from Alaska was opening up that no one has ever heard of it was just her by herself with a guitar and doing yodeling songs touring the country with her boyfriend in an old VW bus. It was jewel. Mr. Murphy seemed burned-out grouchy and like he did not want to be there, and certainly no longer thought he was a vampire. That said I am a huge fan and was pretty disappointed although it was really awesome to meet him for like the second I did, he wasn't mean or anything just burned out. I felt bad for him.

Saw him at Bogart’s in ‘89, Nine Inch Nails was the opener. THAT show was amazing and still one of the best I have ever seen.
"the vampire mythology and the rockstar go so well together" Yes exactly, that's why they should have used Peter Murphy's voice instead of Korn's for Lestat's music in Queen of the Damned. A few little tweaks like that could have actually made the movie passable.
He will always be my Lestat
Peter Murphy es demasiado sensual e inteligente. Irresistible.
@Criddington I want him so bad! I met him in 1985, I was 15...swoon...
Wow, he has a really debonair, aristocratic feel about him, doesn't he?
She’s gorgeous
Thanks for upload ...in late '80s the' New Music ' show was aired in the UK around 3AM on ITV- (one of the 4 Channels available at the time) that had just started showing programmes around the clock...
Oh!!! Thank you so much for posting this!!
Yah! Thanks! And youre right! He is gorgeous! Very Gorgeous!!!
Has there EVER in the history of mankind been a more beautiful man? I think not. I wish they would have made that movie with Peter then instead of the awful and horrendous piece of trash that so many years later was 'the queen of the damned'...with the worst music ever. Seriously, why wasn't this man in anything other than The Hunger? He is even more gorgeous than Bowie...and that's no easy task.

some would debate the fact that David Hasselhoff was in the same category...I would highly disagree
I've seen him so many times I can't quite remember them all, haha! SO many tours... I slowed down after awhile, though. I only saw him once last June. ( - ; When I first saw him live in 1987, he just blew me away. I rarely have that reaction to a performer. My reaction was comparable to the one I had when I first saw Bowie as Ziggy in 1973. (Yes, I'm older than Peter, but younger than Bowie.)
P.s. He is hot!!!
I need to watch the whole version of this live performance of “spirit“ at the end 😥
😍😍😍👂 his voice omg
He is totally likeable. Much in the way of all all round decent bloke.
Making this American gal blush.

beautiful Peter Murphy love your songs 💗
Who wouldn't want him?
This was from 1987. I first saw him in February of 1987, and the next two times were April of 1988 and September of 1988. By 1988 he had cut his hair and darkened it more again. (I also saw him several times in 1990, a few times in 1992, a few times in 1995, etc., etc., etc.)
What an awesome interview!! He should have been Lestat instead of Tom Cruise.
Thanks!
@GGiblet thank you verrrryy much!!!♥
Barotone voice is ahhhhhhhhh❤❤❤
Peter you Rock lad!
gorgeous
Que guapisimo
10-18-20 Wow wow wow!!! THAT BOOK IS SITTING NEXT TO ME NOW!!! The Vampire Lestat!!!!! Had this copy since 1994
I've seen him several times and even got to chat with him. He's extremely kind and down to earth. We talked about the mainstreamness of goth culture and how it the opposite back in the day.

Genius. Love it!
What makes this clip so great? Tale of the Tongue live! Imagining the Lestat that could have been, which, wow. The mind reels. Tale of the Tongue live! (It bears repeating)
Peter Murphy can still get it.. he’s fine lol
yes very good to see it!!
"Tale of the Tongue" live! Awesome!
Ha, talking about Ann Rice novels - that would have been AMAZING if Perter Murphy had played Lestat. But no... sadly, freakn' Tom Cruz....

“I scared somebody the other night” - Peter Murphy

RIP Gabby❣️
The interview (and performance clips|) are from early '87, not "1989". lol Late? I know... Here's the Rub: Tale of the Tongue was pre-Love Hysteria; that and he got his haircut for that lp. Edit: I know some may be confused about "which year" this is from, cos of his hair being long, as seen on some of the 1988 tour shirts.
This interview is from 1986 btw and not 1988, bass player is Eddie Branch from U.K. Decay and not Big Country.
Oi! Great comments.Bit more of the psychic vampire who needs that from his audience, the give and take.Meant in the best way to say great, art, music, theater, dance you have to know or understand your fans, hate that word, lol,to get it.The best entertainment is having all sides of the performance leave the gig with a sense of unity. The psychic vampire has nothing to offer. But the artist, dare I use that word in mainstream useage,is a unifier.
As much as I love Bauhaus, this is very Spinal Tap-ish. That interviewer!
@NathaPotter "Tale of the Tongue" is the song title cheers!
Was any man more beautiful than Peter Murphy in the 80s and 90s? John Lurie, maybe? Young Denzel? Tony Leung? Not many more. Peter was apex.
“I don’t need to take drugs” * gets pulled over in LA and charged with possession of meth.
@MikeMoldao: You too? Oh god that was the best concert I went to :D
Could someone tell me which concert the song starting at 5:25 is from? I know that it's Spirit/We Love Our Audience, but the original version doesn't sound like this..
there is just something about him
1:00 find someone that looks at you like that and you're golden lol
Totally know what you mean...
5:27 - where can I find this version of Spirit? I want it so bad!!!
3.25 ...... "I think it will make a better movie than a book" ...... Good call...... :)
Isabel Dhampir Bowie,HERMANA GOTH DE cALLYSTO999.
1987!!!
@EmmaSkye7 Bowie changed his approach to vocals later on though... his voice became less 'heady' and went for a deeper sound in the late 70's... primarily influenced by The Walker Brothers.. go have a listen. I can see how people could think Bowie might have gotten the idea from listening to Bauhaus... hell, maybe that was part of it too.
He would have been so good in that movie!! There's that rumor of Peter trying to play a part in the movie "Interview with the Vampire" Since rumors and facts always goes to another person and another; it must have started with this fact and ended up with the rumor of him trying to be in "The intervew with the vampire" instead!! Can both be true??? I think so yah!! He would have been good in both of them!!! Oh well!
Doe anyone know the title of the songs he played at the RPM club, Toronto ?
Oh she wants him so badly! :D
