This is undoubtedly the most horrific and disturbing case I've ever heard of.... It's inconceivable.

Still the scariest reminder that you're never really safe. He was kind of a celebrity with a lot of eyes and attention on him plus everyone knew where she was and it still didn't stop him. Absolute insanity.

Watching the Netflix documentary about this and not knowing the backstory makes me listen to my gut feelings even more. When he kept talking about building submarines and taking out the enemy I'm like oh yeah he's a narcissistic psychopath with probably a God complex. Then they show him putting the camera up in the motel room with a clear bed shot. I shuddered as I told my bf yep, definitely a psychopath and it's about control with him!! Then the "fetish" videos of women being killed comes into play .... I had to get up and walk out of the room whilst pacing thinking omg you truly just don't know ppl.

Anyone who refers to themselves in the third person is a huge giant blaring red flag that should not go ignored ever. Even if they're not a psychopathic narcissist, they're probably a nutjob in other ways.

I'm fully convinced he filmed it, question is when he managed to destroy or get rid of the memory card, most probably he still had it when he came to the harbour and was picked up by the brilliant Danish police squad that decided to detain him right away. Supposedly he managed to flush it down in the toilet at the arrival to the police station, or discretely discarded it on the way there. But for sure he had it back with him to use for future moments reviving his powerful experience, maybe even upload it on some obscure website that he was dwelling on.

This podcast doesn't reveal anything new or unreleased information-wise, however it's a great compilation of the essence of this tragedy. I studied Forensic Psychology at the university in Sweden when this occurred and know an awful lot about this case. Apart from the spectacular choice of crime scene, there's nothing really surprising about the perpetrator compared to the likes of most other sexual sadists. Yes, it's impossible to escape a submarine locked in under water, though I am fairly sure any victim locked up in a basement room or similar were not feeling any different about the situation. When I think about that young woman close to him who was invited several times for "having a fun time in the submarine", she must have had a terrible experience understanding that she was lucky, with days, or even hours, of margin being replaced for the "event". Luckily we will never have to worry about this perpetrator anymore, he's not going anywhere for the rest of his life.

Hi Candice, thank you for the great analysis. This was riveting. I understand from watching shows like The Investigation that they struggled to ascertain the cause of death, finally concluding that two of the stab wounds occurred at the time of death. I wondered if Kim had fought back or struggled because it didn’t seem as if Madsen had visible injuries. I was interested to know if those cookies or coffee had been laced with a sedative possibly?

And now women queue up to visit him in prison. He even got married to a russian activist. Never mind this guy, why do women flock to criminals is beyond me. Maybe this lady is studying the wrong bunch of people.

I think it would have been really cool if you were able to personally interview any of the witnesses or even the killer himself. I mean, you have done well with secondhand information, but secondhand information rarely is more than a retelling of previous conclusions.
