But then...when it happens....it's okay....and you realize that things will be better. In fact , it's already started just by you recognizing the NEED for that change and then moving forward. This is of particular significance to me because....I am about to make a big change myself. It's going to hurt...but this time next year I will be wondering why I didn't do it sooner. Climbing up on Solsbury Hill I could see the city light Wind was blowing, time stood still Eagle flew out of the night He was something to observe Came in close, I heard a voice Standing, stretching every nerve Had to listen, had no choice I did not believe the information Just had to trust imagination My heart going boom, boom, boom "Son", he said, "grab your things, I've come to take you home" To keep in silence I resigned My friends would think I was a nut Turning water into wine Open doors would soon be shut So I went from day to day Though my life was in a rut 'Til I thought of what I'll say Which connection I should cut I was feeling part of the scenery I walked right out of the machinery My heart going boom, boom, boom "Hey", he said, "grab your things, I've come to take you home" (Hey, back home) When illusion spin her net I'm never where I want to be And liberty she pirouette When I think that I am free Watched by empty silhouettes Who close their eyes but still can see No one taught them etiquette I will show another me Today I don't need a replacement I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant My heart going boom, boom, boom "Hey", I said, "you can keep my things, they've come to take me home"

From his lips, "It's about being prepared to lose what you have for what you might get ... It's about letting go." Inspired music like this has a meaning for everyone, we can apply it to our own lives. Letting go can be about whatever we want it to be. A relationship, a band, materialism, a belief, you name it.

TheSanityInspector It was a difficult break. Peter’s first child had just been born and she was very ill. He felt that he needed to be at home, taking care of her. The others weren’t sympathetic. “You can keep my things, they’ve come to take me home.” Peter is not over it, he refuses to be part of any Genesis reunions.

@@CissaBlack I always thought it was Phil that put the kibosh on any Genesis reunion with Peter, and that's just because he can't play drums anymore. "If we had a reunion with Peter, where would that leave me? I would be the drummer, and I can't do that."

The only song ever that gives me goose bumps EVERY single time I hear it, always has and always will be my number 1
The father of theatre - rock, a poet, an activist, a Genius. Really ❤ this guy.....
This is my favourite live version
I was at this particular concert and indeed the enthusiasm was contagious. Sweet sweet memories as I grow older.
My favorite version of a favorite song. I saw him perform this during his Secret World tour appearance in Tacoma, and it's a favorite memory.
Ich liebe dieses Lied... und die Show :-) Der Mann ist der Hammer!
Back when your musical chops greatly outweighed your fashion sense. God bless you Tony Levin!!

Have to do the boom boom boom fist pump to this super classic!
He was 44 here. I love seeing the newer one where they merged him over the years! Excellent!
Good songs make a memory and I have a great memory of this song.....
I finally got to see Peter for the New Blood tour, but this will always be the one I wish I'd seen. Of course, Solsbury Hill is and always will be his signature song.
Great song and video. In my top ten all time favourite songs. Who the hell are the 20 people who didn't like it?? Must be mad!

Do what? Try to be sober when posting a remark. Many Thanx.
Thumbs down on this? Insane.
This is just fantastic. The jubilant atmosphere, excellent music, profound lyrics and rock solid performance. True craftsmanship - a joy to behold.
Just learned that the song is about his breaking ties with Phil Collins and Genesis, and now this is one of the most moving live performances I have ever seen.

From his lips, "It's about being prepared to lose what you have for what you might get ... It's about letting go." Inspired music like this has a meaning for everyone, we can apply it to our own lives. Letting go can be about whatever we want it to be. A relationship, a band, materialism, a belief, you name it.

I hope it wasn't as acrimonious as the lyrics imply.

He never broke any ties with Phil Collins.

@@CissaBlack I always thought it was Phil that put the kibosh on any Genesis reunion with Peter, and that's just because he can't play drums anymore. "If we had a reunion with Peter, where would that leave me? I would be the drummer, and I can't do that."
I will never ever tire of listening to this song! And this is certainly a feel good performance to watch!
Music from the 70's and 80's. Awesome artists that could sing by themselfs
Love, Love this song. Peter Gabriel is a SHOWMAN!
What ever you are feeling like play this song and you will only feel better. Love it
How can you not feel good when skipping ..... I've always thought this live version to be significantly better than the record This song, especially this performance is a trip!!!
One of my favourite songs Brilliant singer and performer.
7/4 at its best!
Makes me sad when the lyrics "Grab your things I've come to take you home" are sang, my dad, and my two favorite aunts were raised in a childrens home and it makes me wonder why my grandmother couldn't make arrangements with our large family to TAKE THEM HOME.... Part sadness and part rage now that my father has passed away.
Always a Joy to see Masters of their craft, enjoying their talents so much .
Great show! I love Peter Gabriel and so fun with Paula Cole and all the guys, Manu Katche fun on drums too!
I see this a million times and never get tired of me!

Your dad looks like a young Mel Gibson in Hamlet garb, dancing and singing to Solsbury Hill????? (Or just Peter Gabriel, looking gorgeous in his 40's, performing the wondrous Solsbury Hill.) Either way, tell your dad "hubba hubba!" from me...

Wait 'til you see him and all the others dancing during "In Your Eyes."

Fortunatelly the song has the perfect duration... if it longed a minute more, are minds would have blown!

What a fantastic performance of a superb song
On Gabriel's official website it says this: The negatives of the original film are repaired and cleaned, scanned at 2K resolution (twice the size of Full HD) and graded again. They will also add Red Rain!
I remember first seeing the videos from the full concert around 25 years ago. I thought to myself he is a musical genius & performer
