Peter Gabriel - Shock The Monkey (Live in Athens 1987)
Музыка
Available Now: mercury-studios.lnk.to/PeterG...
In October 1987 after many months on the road, it was in the elevated surroundings of the hillside open-air theatre at Lycabettus overlooking Athens, that the "So" tour came to a climactic close. The three nights were filmed in what was the first-ever Peter Gabriel concert to be committed to film. As a concert film, it was brilliantly shot and has now been equally brilliantly remastered, a crystal-clear record of Gabriel and band in their mid-80s pomp. The viewer is placed right in the heart of the action all the way, from the band's synchronised choreography on opening number "This Is The Picture", right through to the skin-pricking closer "Biko". In between, we're lost in music, spellbound by the spectacle, totally absorbed by the imperfection-free tightness of a band that's been on the road for so long.

that horrible white bat-sleeve jacket....imo the 80s were without doubt the decade with the most taste-crimes in fashion and design. btw: this whole actually great song sounds totally quantized. there´s no movement in tempo. another crime of the 1980s.

Not quite... I don't see any Simmons drums. Thank god :-D. I love 80s music, but those things were a bit too much.
We just saw him in late 2023 in Vancouver B.C. and he still runs around the stage, perhaps a little more sedately, and puts on the best show you've ever seen. He's a legend, a legend with ever new material, innovation, creativity and originality. Brilliant!

I saw part of that here on YT! He did "Sledgehammer" and blew me away with how strong his vocals and energy were...
There was a hilarious moment, when between two songs a girl from the audience shouted ''Peter I love you!'' P.G. said, "I think I asked you to be discreet''. Then, in the next break a group of guys shouted all together, PETER WE LOVE YOU ! He said, ''And I have asked YOU to be even more discreet ! '' LOL !

He occupies a wonderfully weird stage presence about halfway between a traditional rock frontman, and a more pop-style choreographed show. Very unique performer
Peter Gabriel is a legitimate genius. The quality of the whole band, plus his choreography, and the deep meaning of his music is almost unparalleled. He is a extremely talented in several ways.

@@TomWatsonB1 You must understand that no one necessarily saying Gabriel is lacking for talent. The production quality here is excellent and he is unquestionably a great performer. However, the lyrics to this throwaway track are absurd, and to elaborately mime the movements of a primate without a hint of irony? He comes off looking like a member of The Wiggles. Now you may very well be The Wiggles' biggest fan, so I'm sorry if that critique hits a little too close to home; but the only way Gabriel could redeem this very dated part of his catalogue would be to say that he and the band put it together while in the midst of a week-long cocaine binge and that the dance moves were an elaborate tongue-in-cheek test to see whether those lacking in taste (that'd be you) would actually accept it unflinchingly.
Manu's drumming is badass.

I saw Peter circa this time at SUNY Buffalo. The crowd was so dense up front that I could lift my feet and literally ride like a particle in a wave back and forth following him when he moved across the stage. I ended up helping another guy to carry out a girl who was being crushed to death and screaming that she couldn’t breath.

Une des meilleures chansons de Peter Gabriel, accompagnées de musiciens de haut vol. Grandiose. C'est juste exemplaire. Une des meilleures performances live de Peter Gabriel.
OMG... Peter is just awesome...! Tony Levin ! ! Never noticed how close Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel are when it comes to singing voices
8 years earlier, his would-be friend and collaborator got the audio engineer for her tour to take a small radio mic, put it on a wire coat hanger that was twisted out of shape, and give her for most of the show so she could sing while she danced, creating, in a rather DIY fashion, the first wireless head mic to be used extensively during a live stage show. I see Peter made a great use of what made its pretty humble (but respected!) start in Kate Bush's tour... I wonder what it would've been like of it had already existed at the time of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, with Peter wearing all those heavy costumes...
Dynamic sounding vocal and lyric creativity. The instrumental supports the lyrics and vocal and sounds amazing...
What a performance, and he doesn't even look puffed at the end! Incredible.
