    I think every single one of us can understand the pain of having a terrible round, but we are not normally doing in public and then having to talk openly about it, so big, big props to you. Just putting yourself out there is worthy of huge respect and the golf you have been playing recently has been really superb and a real pleasure to watch, so you have my greatest sympathies and respect. Chin up Pete, better things are still to come :)

    @@christopherhughes497 because one substandard round of golf for a golfer of Pete's caliber does not by any stretch indicate the level of golf he's capable of. We've seen him go under par in seemingly easy fashion around even tougher courses. Not to mention, this series was incredibly enjoyable/entertaining/interesting to watch. If you tuned in all year long to the many Quest for the Open videos, I think you'd likely have a different opinion. And, selfishly, myself and many viewers like me want the entertainment!

    @delhump22 in comp, he doesn't have a good time. We know that. Practice and prep isn't what kills him. It's mentals. Regional qualifying has never gone well. I'm not really stating anything untrue. It is what it is. It isn't going to get easier as time and age gets on unless he sees a sports therapist. Loads of guys can play. Csm they play when thr pressure and eyes are on them? Not many can and that's OK. But most wouldn't torture themselves year on year. Great KZreadr, top videos, but not a tournament guy sadly as it would be cool.

    Why do people compare a 147 in Snooker and a 9 darter to a hole in one in Golf? It should be compared to shooting a 59 in Golf. There are 35 handicappers at my club who have a hole in one. It can be a total fluke. There is no way someone flukes a 147, 9 darter or a 59.

    Hardest thing in golf is to beat your age, you might have a chance in your early 70’s, fitness and ability dependent, i am 67 and did it off the reds in winter, two temp greens, so doesn’t count. I was given a lesson age 14 and the pro said you will have a chance to beat your age, confused the hell out of a 14 year old, all making sense now.

    So much to learn from this…and so much two bob advice from the punters. Here is another two bob. It is clearly the bad thoughts that creep in when things aren’t going to the preconceived plan. Not feeling it, bad shot, bad putt, misread, misjudgement. Can you de-escalate and focus on the next shot or compound the error. Today shows this is where you will need to work and where the reward lies. I think you would benefit a lot from a professional caddy. I think you need to go out more when the conditions aren’t great, when you’re not feeling it, play under more pressure situations, more live audience not less. You have the game and your mental side was coming but still not quite ready when it’s not happening. Good luck, love the content. Preparing for the next qualifying starts now.

  • @StuartMcGlennon
    @StuartMcGlennon3 күн бұрын

    First off I love the content you guys produce, Pete you're hugely talented player and to front up after a day like that which we can all relate to is admirable. That score clearly doesn't reflect your ability and can be chalked up as "one of those days". The most interesting part was you talking about not having one shot to cling on to when the rest of the game is crumbling, that's a horrible feeling and in an event like Open Qualifying there's just no hiding place. You just want to fudge and nerdle it round when it's like that, and when even that becomes difficult the brain just melts. As a returning scratch golfer of many years and someone who's played in Open Qualifying myself a few times, I think what is underestimated probably by a lot of viewers is just the grind of having a card in your hand amongst other top rate golfers. Pressure/anxiety goes up several notches and the ability just to deal with that whilst keeping the game in check is a huge skill in itself, and if you're not doing that regularly it's very hard to show up at an event like this and just play as if it's a regular round. I've been keeping a check on my heart rate during competition rounds since returning this season and I was quite shocked how high it was despite outwardly feeling calm and in control, subconsciously I clearly wasn't. Your game is clearly improving and you strike it as well as anyone on here as Paddy said, make sure you're in it next year (hopefully I will be as well!)

    The pressure of open qualifying. I was filming on the 13th when Peter was on the 3rd tee, had a nice crowd with him and hit a pull hook (thought it was OOB). Seen that so often with tour players on the first tee, smashing it on the range then not being able to replicate on the course. So hard to stay in the present over every shot because we have so much time to think. I saw a few players that day with the ability to switch on razor sharp focus, almost eliminate any doubt and produce quality swings. Maybe focus on that for next year, good luck.

    2 things here: You have a great channel, it helps thousands, it is fun, colourful and great to watch. It also gives you an amazing lifestyle. However, if you want to qualify for Open, you need to change everything to give yourself a chance. Play in weekly comps all year to hone your mental strength in tournament play, take lessons (that journey would be a great watch), but essentially everything needs to be put on hold if you want to qualify. There are proper hardened golfers trying to qualify, it can't be attempted half hearted. No surprise, the scores that you, Rick and Matt put in. Personally think you should concentrate on channel, it's brilliant. But if you are determined to get to Open, you have to go for it without distractions. You have the talent but you have to decide what's important for you.

    Hi Peter I was following the game behind you on Monday with Stephen Warhurst who was next to you on the driving range. If it makes you feel any better he shot 4 under last week and was 11 over on the day. I’ve played golf for over 40 years mostly at 10 handicap but down to 8 at times and I don’t think I’ve been on a more difficult course before. The degree of difficulty because of how ‘tight’ it was plus the very dry conditions and very hard greens made it almost impossible. We all know the day you think you have got golf licked is the day it bites you in the backside. I asked Kieran how you were doing after 9 and he said ‘you were a few over’! Keep smiling Peter you have a lot of support on here. Also the format you have with the 3 guys makes your KZread channel the best for me and there are some very good others as well. Look forward to your future videos. All the best Roger

Started shooting some rounds in the very low 90's and upper to mid 80s and things looked great. Everything I'd been working on was coming together. Won a Wednesday medal at my club. Then boom. Forgot how to swing a club. Shot 102, 104, 108 back to back to back. It. Was. Demoralising. And depressing. Golf is such a hard sport and has so so many variables in terms of movement, tempo, mental, feel, technique etc. All it takes is one thing you don't notice being out of alignment and then boom. Don't be too hard on yourself mate. It's a blip, don't let it be a blemish.

    Keep your head up Pete. That’s the game and also life yah know. Your best work shows up when you don’t necessarily need it. Then when you need it ands gone. Keep on grinding cause you’re on the brink of something big!

    As I learned two weeks ago, the secret to great golf is to ride to the course with an absolute maniac. You have no nerves left for golf after praying to survive the trip. Maybe Keiran can help you out next year.

    The way Peter has been playing I was really hopeful that he’d make it through this stage. But a) conditions b) expectations and c) the golfing gods clearly had other ideas. It has been however, as ever, great fun for us to watch the preparation and process that Peter has gone through to attempt to qualify. My main takeaways are, just how good are the quys who do make it and who are at the top of the game (answer: unimaginably good) and also how much mental clarity and strength matters at the top level. Hope Peter does it all again next year. He’s definitely good enough, and hopefully over time will learn and take some lessons from today

    It's a smack in the face to us all. We've been following you for some time and watching as it seemed you were getting closer and closer to playing like an Open player. It just shows how hard professional golf is. Playing for money, honour, prestige, fame is always going to be hard - whether it's golf, darts, poker, whatever. But you're out there playing and competing. You're a professional golfer earning a good living doing what you love. You're playing better than a gazzillion people who just bash it round the course. You're out there travelling the World playing and making hundreds of thousands of viewers happy. It's a great CV Finch!! My friend who writes the SUMO books and does courses on picking yourself up after something like that would say, " Finch, you can have two days - 48 hours - of wallowing in self-pity and depression. After that - SHUT UP - MOVE ON!!" I'm sure Paul McGee who runs courses on SUMO would love to meet up and do a video on picking yourself up and what's next. That would be a really really positive relaunch of everything AND it would do you good Finch!
