All the condolences for Kate Garraway and children are valid but please do not make their story into something incredibly special. Everyday in this country partners are quietly supporting their other half through a terminal illness or life changing event. They do this whilst having to manage household budgets, other family members and their job/career which become stark reality in everyday normal life. This was a very sad situation made very public. Please, spare a thought for those unsung heroes that juggle these life changing events without the financial security, career breaks, fanfares and widespread adulation. That said RIP Derek Draper.

The majority of people are not in the public eye so wouldn't get to be on TV when their family members die, but just think how you felt when your husband died, because whether Kate was in the public eye or not, her and her two kids will be feeling as much devastation as you did when you're husband died , being on the telly doesn't take that away.

@@hellsbells7271 I would have admired any real person doing this, you know the people who are struggling to survive on the pittance carers are paid and are at their wits end through stress and lack of sleep. But not people who can afford the best care available. I have a background in adult social care and believe you me the majority of people could only dream of support and care this guy got, this is not struggling and lets make it clear he was dependent on cares, not his spouse.

People in the public eye who make their stories known raise public awareness. Think Bill Turnbull and prostate cancer, or Rob Burrow and Motor Neurone Disease . I just hope that these trolls never have to go through what Kate Garraway has endured.

It’s very sad and my condolences go out to Kate and her family but you talk as if she is the only person to have ever lost a love one, who sat holding their hand as they die or have nursed a loved one round the clock for years. She is fortunate to have the financial circumstances to have given him the best care, whereas many people have been forced to give up their careers to care for a spouse or parent. There are thousands of people who have previously, or who are currently living through the exact same thing, but because she is a so called “celebrity” her story is milked to make her into this devoted angel who went through far worse than anyone else.

This is not the exact same thing as you put it, this is about a very specific situation of which nobody else could imagine, I think you should show compassion and think about how your nasty comments would be hurtful to Kate and their children just widowed should they come across these remarks.

I did it for four years without help from anyone, now in bed for a year finding it hard to look after myself, no regrets, you do it with love...

There are so many families that are struggling with sad illness no money no surport 😢so sorry for your loss kate and every one around the world 😢

Thousands of people die, millions in war, abuse and trafficking. Yet Kate gets air time because she is a Zzzzlisters..... Sad he died, but if every regular persons life was ticked down over the years, we'd be literally depressed and sad about everything and never function. How and why they kept this in the press and MSM for so long baffles me. I feel for all those who left their loved ones in care homes, or weren't able to lay them to rest.... Where's the year long coverage of that. We'll probably have a year of Kates grief being aired now..... People have got their own lives and losses to deal with. I truly believe only those that sit at home trying to escape their own lives will watch and absorb this for the next few years.... That's the tragedy of media programming.

My 91 year old mother was denied medical treatment, food, fluids and her usual medication having had a mild stroke, Sunday 20th Dec. 2020, whilst incarcerated in a Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland 'care' home. My mother was unlawfully euthanised the following Sunday 27th Dec. 2020, and bundled into the back of a hearse along with three plastic bags of her belongings labled 'Hospital Waste'. Her funeral took place Wed. 30th Dec. 2020, restricted to a maximum of seven mourners ... needless to say, it did NOT make even the local news headlines, let alone wall-to-wall national broadcasts.💔 Jus' saying'!

I would love to have seen him make some kind of life enjoyable recovery , but it never happened and I hate to say this, maybe for him this was the best outcome. He was being pulled about left right and center and had no quality of life . I feel for the kids as they will not be able to grieve privately. Lets hope everyone gives them the space and time to do so and that they remain a strong family unit with great memories of their father and ...not forgetting ..husband.

Yes, it must be awful to have a family member die and extremely difficult for them. However, why not ask for family privacy at this time. Kate Garraway has milked her husband’s illness for every bit of exposure she can. We’ve had tv appearances, books, magazine articles, Will an LP be released? God forbid what will come next and the exposure she will crave, her agent will be working over time. The thing is, there will be thousands of other families who have lost family during Covid and just got on with their lives, not craved this eternal need of being in the public eye. We’re on brink of WW3 and she’s front page news!!!

I think we all feel sorry for poor Derek. That goes without saying. RIP. I think there are many people suffering still from long Covid and can no longer carry on with jobs etc. I would say at this point I have no issue with KG however I have disliked the way Derek has been used as a ‘cash cow’. Not very professional on KG’s part and to be honest people have been rather annoyed and frustrated this is published most days in the media. KG is no different than any one of us, but she seems to get the most coverage for her poor husband. Yes she shows what long Covid can do but that really is not the point. Just one story would suffice instead of this constant barrage of stories being released. Sorry I can only blame KG as she feeds the press. This gives the impression that there is a class system in place which should not happen regardless of who you are.

Without his consent (he’s on a ventilator) she plastered his picture all over the place, she didn’t give him his dignity and she has made money from it. I’ve no doubt the movie will follow. I suspect people who have sad lives or no lives become develop emotional incontinence about stories like this. It reminds me of munchausen by proxy, emotional incontinence by proxy?? I’m pretty disgusted how as a society we hold up high ‘celebrities’ - if people invested as much energy into their own families and local communities instead of virtue signalling how compassionate they are about celebrities- the world would be a better place.

I agree surely he had health problems before covid struck, used him to highlight covid for ygeir agenda . Poor man on camera was not right he looked tortured by that. Could still have told his story without filming it so intrusive. Sad but many more died undignified deaths and families never had the help or exposure they got .

During the pandemic, nearly all death certificates stated Covid 19 as the cause of death. The bodies were piling up and the system had to process them very quickly.
