Peter Abelard

In this video, Professor Thorsby discusses the medieval philosopher, Peter Abelard. In particular, this video focusses on the problem of universals, as well as his argument that moral evil, or sin, is a consequence of intention.

    15:03 Peter Abelard died over 80 years before St. Thomas Aquinas was born, so he was not aware of what St. Thomas Aquinas thought about universals.

    Funny. It seems that Abelard was working out the principles of Object Oriented Programming over 800 years ago.

    To be more thorough, some thought that universals were divine and existed in the mind of God.
