As a teen in the 80's, we had awesome music! I remember hearing this song and being blown away. So, I sat patiently until it was played again so I could record it with my cassette player. YES! We made our own MIX tapes!!!!

I love The Who songs like "Wont' get fooled again" and "Baba O'Riley" but this is just a fantastic pop song. I'm a computer and electronics girl and made my own MP3 doorbell - the chorus of this is one of my door chimes 🥰

Ironically, this live version is actually better produced than the original album version. They applied some sort of weird phase shifting on the bass guitar on the album which made it less punchy on regular speakers. Can't do that in live settings because live venues are essentially "mono". Centering the bass in the mid/side field really helps the song.

My favourite version is the first Prince's Trust concert with Phil Collins on drums, Midge Ure on guitar and Mick Karn on bass (really unique sound) Pete's vocal was incredible. i recorded it on C60 cassette from the TV and played it until the tape broke a couple of years later. Well worth a listen if you can find it.

As a kid growing up in the 1960s in DC, black folks were primarily focused on Motown and Stax records, but when the British invasion hit, it wasn't only about the Beatles, the Who made its mark, too. Pete Townsend had his respect and now he has reached legendary status. Hats off to one of the greatest to ever do it.

When people keep repeating That you'll never fall in love When everybody keeps retreating But you can't seem to get enough Let my love open the door Let my love open the door Let my love open the door To your heart (let my love open the door, ooh) (Let my love open the door) (Let my love open the door, ooh) (Let my love open the door) When everything feels all over Everybody seems unkind I'll give you a four-leaf clover Take all worry out of your mind Let my love open the door Let my love open the door Let my love open the door To your heart (let my love open the door, ooh) To your heart (let my love open the door, ooh) (Let my love open the door, ooh) (Let my love open the door, ooh) The only key to your heart That can stop you falling apart Try today, you'll find this way Come on and give me a chance to say Let my love open the door It's all I'm livin' for Release yourself from misery There's only one thing gonna set you free That's my love That's my love Let my love open the door (ooh) Let my love open the door (ooh) Let my love open the door (ooh) Let my love open the door When tragedy befalls you (ooh) Don't let it drag you down Love can cure your problems (ooh) You're so lucky I'm around Let my love open the door Let my love open the door Let my love open the door To your heart Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Peter Dennis Townshend
