As a teen in the 80's, we had awesome music! I remember hearing this song and being blown away. So, I sat patiently until it was played again so I could record it with my cassette player. YES! We made our own MIX tapes!!!!

I love The Who songs like "Wont' get fooled again" and "Baba O'Riley" but this is just a fantastic pop song. I'm a computer and electronics girl and made my own MP3 doorbell - the chorus of this is one of my door chimes 🥰

I always admired how Pete managed to be one of the best rockers of all time, and then he managed to come up with one of the best pop albums ever. Man has insane musical range and talent.

@@davidpunchard140 Agreed. Pete Townshend was possibly the best ever to grace rock, and certainly the best example for what rock is and could be. Rock n’ roll into its finest.

There is something special about Pete and this song. It takes you to a happy place.Love it.
This song is the corner stone to one of the best weeks of my life during my early 20s. It involved living in a warehouse in Oakland, CA w/ a bunch of friends, a Who concert, a chef & my first love. Best memories ever!

Well, ....... I guess this is what happens, when you got a great song, a great singer and a killer band ...... music magic. Emotion from the knowledge that he has a terrific band behind him!!!
Without a doubt, this is the best version ever of this song. Pete's emotion just comes through the way he growls out some of the lyrics.

Ironically, this live version is actually better produced than the original album version. They applied some sort of weird phase shifting on the bass guitar on the album which made it less punchy on regular speakers. Can't do that in live settings because live venues are essentially "mono". Centering the bass in the mid/side field really helps the song.
Timeless, makes Adams project complete!

They don't know Pete
only true class acts sound even better live than recorded, and he's one of them
This song was used in so many tv shows movies and commercials from the 90s. This song rings in my ear to this day. Good times
What I like about Pete Townshend is that his solo work is so easily distinguishable from Who material. He has a true command of messaging and feel for a song, a band.

I love Pete always says he doesn't like performing but he does find it incredibly easy. I think with sodium pentathol you would find out he loves it and finds it incredibly easy . He is a master of his craft writing, arranging, performing and very giving, a true icon, even though he fibs about liking to perform
Mostly thanx to the sublime creative determination of a very few geniuses, who invented the astounding motion picture camera, around a hundred and thirty years ago, surely our greatest invention.
The, best, ever! God Bless Pete Townshend! Truly my guitar hero inspiration! 🎸

What a great song ! The 'Empty Glass' LP. is a masterpiece.
March 2022 - no more musicians left. All rap or hip hop. Love this song - The Who all the music of my generation - I am 71
Also the keyboard intro is classic Pete, he’s one of the great keyboardists in addition to everything else.
Absolutely amazing!!! Wow I think I've had this on rewind for the last hour lol
I was there right in the front row at Brooklyn Academy of Music ...Still there anyway anyhow anywhere! Pete is my 💜 💜💜....always .......

I have great memories of this song, so much better live. My favourite version is the first Prince's Trust concert with Phil Collins on drums, Midge Ure on guitar and Mick Karn on bass (really unique sound) Pete's vocal was incredible. i recorded it on C60 cassette from the TV and played it until the tape broke a couple of years later. Well worth a listen if you can find it.
💕 Love the 80’s Pete.
This is a really catchy song. Love it.
Brilliant performance!
He is much underrated, Pete was head of the Who on of the best bands ever.
You're so lucky you have have me around! Couldn't agree more Pete.
ONE OF THE BEST ROMANTIC SONGS EVER
As a kid growing up in the 1960s in DC, black folks were primarily focused on Motown and Stax records, but when the British invasion hit, it wasn't only about the Beatles, the Who made its mark, too. Pete Townsend had his respect and now he has reached legendary status. Hats off to one of the greatest to ever do it.
“Everybody always thinks the music of Their time was the best. Mine actually was.” Tom Petty Soundbreaking Series produced my PBS on Music recording history. I’m Tom’s age and could not agree more.
How can this possibly be even better? But it is. Thanks so much for putting it here.
When people keep repeating That you'll never fall in love When everybody keeps retreating But you can't seem to get enough Let my love open the door Let my love open the door Let my love open the door To your heart (let my love open the door, ooh) (Let my love open the door) (Let my love open the door, ooh) (Let my love open the door) When everything feels all over Everybody seems unkind I'll give you a four-leaf clover Take all worry out of your mind Let my love open the door Let my love open the door Let my love open the door To your heart (let my love open the door, ooh) To your heart (let my love open the door, ooh) (Let my love open the door, ooh) (Let my love open the door, ooh) The only key to your heart That can stop you falling apart Try today, you'll find this way Come on and give me a chance to say Let my love open the door It's all I'm livin' for Release yourself from misery There's only one thing gonna set you free That's my love That's my love Let my love open the door (ooh) Let my love open the door (ooh) Let my love open the door (ooh) Let my love open the door When tragedy befalls you (ooh) Don't let it drag you down Love can cure your problems (ooh) You're so lucky I'm around Let my love open the door Let my love open the door Let my love open the door To your heart Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Peter Dennis Townshend
