Well there isn't a sign on every clubhouse door that has a rule about drug abuse, however there is a sign about the gambling rule. Don't bet on baseball or you will be permanently banned from baseball. Period! He thought he was above the rules! Great player!

Besides Family things. The most exciting thing ever was meeting Pete Rose in Las Vegas. He was doing some signings. When I got to the set...he asked me how do you want me to sign the ball.I said To Jerry A Great Fan or something along that line.He said well Jerry you know the ball would not be worth much if I put your name on it. I said Mr Rose...I am a fan..and if I have a Grandson/granddaughter. He /she will get it and I would be able to tell them that I actually meet one of the best baseball players in history. So we chatted for about 20 minutes. He told me of playing at Grayson Stadium in my Hometown and in Augusta GA and several stories. When I was down someone said..you know Pete usually says hi signs the ball and move onto the next person.I said really? Mr Pete Rose Really made my day that day...and I hope I made his! As of this date Mr Rose I am proud to say I have a 6 year old grandson that will be getting that ball!

Really cool story. You are a true fan who 'gets it'. Rose was THE man. If all of today's players played even a little like he did back in his prime, the game would be totally different. Intensity is missing in baseball.

Go watch Giamatti's press conference. He made it very clear that there was no deal once the investigation showed what it did. Pete is still the bad guy and he did this to himself. 4:25 Baseball Fans. That picture "right there" speaks almost EVERYTHING this man was as a player. There was No One like him before him. But what truly speaks of this man is that there will NEVER be another one like him in the future. And that is simply a fact. Maybe someone wayyyy down the road that no one has ever heard of yet - - ends up breaking his MLB All Time Hits Record. Personally...I don't see it happening. But even if that were to happen, just being the "total team player".....All Star at EVERY position. Fact. Because of him simply saying "yeah - sure Spark - anything to help the team." And make the move from LF to 3B allowed Sparky to insert George Foster into LF and the rest as they say "is history." He gave up himself for his team. Then MLB gave up on him. That wrong simply needs to be righted, BEFORE he is dead. I think Pete has a "little surprise" for MLB and their fake hall of fame when they elect him if they die. I will leave it at that.👍

  • @eightinches6094

The issue here, and Pete still doesn't get it, is that if MLB or the HOF allow him back in then it condones the "mistake" he made of gambling or wagering on baseball. You would end up having a shit load of players and managers gambling on the games during the season and they would be forgiven because of their "mistake". Baseball is making an example of Pete Rose and it has to be that way. There's no question he was a great player with great numbers but sorry Pete, you broke the cardinal rule. You even said so yourself. You're banned from MLB and no HOF for you.

Pete has always stressed he was not addicted to gambling. As a ballplayer , the man left all the potential he was given through excessive work ethic on the field. He gave it all to the game, everything. There are murders who get parole. I think MLB has made it's point. You gamble you get at least 30 years before you are up for review. I would like to see Pete forgiven and in the Hall Of Fame while he's here to enjoy it. What he gave the game far outweighs what he took from it.

Pete is definitely deserving to be in the Hall of Fame. He didn't bet while he was a player, and the betting (as a Manager) that he did was for his Team to WIN. So he wasn't throwing games away to make money. Again, this was done as a Manager. The guy was idolized by young players everywhere, unfortunately, some players in the league thought he was a fanatic. That's why people loved his playing. He wasn't half as dirty as Ty Cobb, his stats were very credible, and winning was his creed. Not fair, just sayin'.

He didn't bet while he was a player? I don't know about that. In the mid '70's during the heyday of the Big Red Machine, Johnny Bench asked NBC Sportscaster Curt Gowdy to talk with Pete. "Why, about what, exactly?" asked Gowdy. "Because Pete likes you and he's hanging out with some bad people," said Bench.

Did he bet on himself to win to juice himself up? Who the fuck cares? The White Sox threw a world series. It's not like he was betting against his team and purposely fucking over his players while raking in cash. And I agree he was a HOF in his playing career. Michael Jordan I am sure had to have at some point gambled on the Bulls. He's in the Hall of Fame. It just doesn't matter. So stupid that you can juice and cheat at baseball and be hailed, but if you bet on the team you coach, you're banned. Absolutely ridiculous. Baseball has it so backwards it's ridiculous.

Also remember a lifetime ban would mean that in the very least that means he wouldn't get in during his own lifetime. In order for a player to get 4,000 hits, he would have to get 200 hits every season for 20 seasons. And players don’t normally reach 200 in a season. Every year you might get one or two that reach 200. In 2019 (before the pandemic) only two players reached 200. In 2018, no player reached 200. Jeter is the Yankees all time hits leader and after 20 seasons, he only had 8 seasons where he reached 200 hits... So, again. For a player to get 200 every season for 20 seasons... is just a freak of nature and he’s not even on the ballot to be voted on. Yet players who were caught and suspended using PEDs which enhanced their performance and gave them an advantage, they are on the ballot and their records still stand.
